R.I.P, even though I had no idea who you were before you died, I guess I live under a rock, haha. Sucks though, drug habits can mess you up bad, I've been there, it's hard to get straight, it just takes a strong will, guess she didn't have that.
It's a shame for her and her family but not a great loss for music... and like many said, she's definitely not part of the 27 club.
The 27 Club, also occasionally known as the Forever 27 Club, Club 27 or the Curse of 27, is the title for an epitomic group of influential musicians who all died at the age of 27. Are you going to try denying she was 27?;-)
Uhhh... Meh, nobody has given a fuck about Amy Winehouse for years, now that she's dead, people are supposed to start caring about her again?
She was good when she wasn't high as a kite. Hence she was pretty shit live. Was she influential? Depends if you're a fan or not but then again if you don't like somebodies music you probably won't call them influential.
I don't have an opinion about her music either way, since I couldn't even name one of her songs. In fact, before she died I'd completely forgotten about her existence. But as far as being influential is concerned, is she in the same league as the other members of the "27 Club" that some people wanna add her to? No. Fucking. Way.
Speak for yourself. Just because you don't like her, doesn't mean that everybody feels the same. Some people have always loved her music and never gave up on her, believe it or not. She actually has a huge loyal fan base that have always hoped that one day she'd make another album again. And just when things were starting to look better for her, she dies. It's extremely unfortunate and heartbreaking really. She was obviously quite lonely and it didn't seem that she loved herself. Now imagine the pain her family is going through. Rest in peace Amy.
I neither like nor dislike her, but the fact is that the general public had completely forgotten about her years ago. It really says something when even hack comedians stopped making jokes about her drug use.
So apparently Amy died from WITHDRAWAL of alcohol. She tried to go cold turkey instead of gradually coming off. Since she was so thin from her habit, her body couldn’t handle the seizure that apparently caused her death. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Am..._gc.r_pw.&fp=f98803717b988d05&biw=779&bih=731
I don't think the general public had completely forgotten about her. Perhaps in the U.S. I don't know about that. But maybe comedians stopped making jokes about her because it's just sad. I don't get why people would make fun of someone because they're addicted to something. She also seemed really sweet and genuine. All the more reason why they perhaps just gave her a rest.
You're pretty naive about the comedy circuit.. Perhaps you're just as sheltered from the way the rest of the world didn't care about Ms. Winehouse.
Why is everyone so judgmental about this? This is a human being and she died. I hope she rests in peace. Sure, she was a drug addict, and a public figure, and threw away a great future. And yeah, it was quite irresponsible of her. But she has died and it's a tragedy. It's still sad, and she still reserves respect and mourning. Fuck me, I didn't even like her music.
I'm not saying we should all go piss on her grave. She's dead and that's a fact. Being dead is not a good thing and I don't think anyone here is rejoicing because she is no longer with us. People die every day. Some people you mourn and others you are indifferent to and that's the facts. Before anyone tries to call me a cold calloused bastard I'd like to know how many of you read the obituaries every day and have a good cry because *gasp* people have died today and each and every human death is a "tragedy".
 I find it incredibly funny that so many people are adamant that she not be added to the '27 Club'. What difference does it make? Hendrix and Janis Joplin fans probably felt the same way when people started including that loud greasy guy after 1994...
I read recently that she may have died from alcohol withdrawal. Does that get the stick out of everyone's butts?
But that 'loud greasy guy' left a musical legacy that will still be talked about in years to come in just the same way that Morrison and Jones are now, the best Winehouse can expect to be remembered for being is as yet another nearly ran whose off stage actions overshadowed anything she put down in the studio. File next to Johnny Thunders, Sid Vicious and Tommy Bolin to name but three.
My point is who "deserves" to be on the list is not only completely subjective - Manic's fans no doubt include Richey Edwards - but irrelevant too. It's common-usage that determines who is in the club and who isn't. Don't worry I'm sure Amy Winehouse fans will be complaining too when the next 27 year old musician dies and is compared to their idol.
Thing is human beings die all the time. Who makes a fuzz about a little 2 year old girl who died of cancer and was an anonymous child in the sea of sick children? No one. Nobody says how unfair and sad life is, at least not in the media. So the thing is why make such a fuzz about the death of a person who was leading a very unhealthy lifestyle and was pretty much calling for it?
