If ASSEMbler manages to clear out the remaining Geist stock any time soon and gets around to selling the 5 spares I had, I'll use the funds to spring for vBulletin 5 Connect.

It would be poetic justice I guess, given as I got the entitlement for the copies when donating the funds to cover the vBulletin 4 site licence.

The vBulletin mobile suite costs extra though, but there is a mobile suite for vBulletin 4 too.

    Some key points:

Kev by his own admission doesnt have the skill set to correctly upgrade - look at the last one, we still have broken styles etc.

Forum runner sucks, but can co exist with tapatalk just fine .You can have forum runner, mobile style AND tapatalk - which means anyone can used their prefered method to contribute to the site.... ease of access = more posting = point of a forum surely?

Tapatalk is the defacto standard - all the sites I visit use tapatalk, I can switch between them all in the same app. When you can have all options with ease (tapatalk is literally a 2 minute install) - I dont see the issue, choice is good and all that. If you want to use forum runner - go for it. If assembler wants to roll his own app and sell it to people who dont already have tapatalk - go for it. But I dont think people who already have and use tapatalk are going to pay for another app that does just 1 site - so no lost sales there either.

In short, I dont see VB5 upgrade going well. Tapatalk and forum runner are easy installs and can co exist just fine.

Coexisting mobile platforms for personal choice isn't a bad thing providing there is no interference.

From what I gather vBulletin 5 connect comes with the ForumRunner plugin regardless and paying for the mobile suite introduces site specific branding to the app. I can't see many people using a dedicated ASSEMbler app if they can use a vanilla ForumRunner app on multiple sites (most other sites I visit use the ProBoards app), but it would be cool to have the branding I guess plus the potential for advertising to help cover running costs would be cool, if a little irritating also. The generic ForumRunner app seems a little broken though as firstly the site needs to be added to their database andonce it is there the app is riddled with bugs.

Oh and I merged the thread with the other tapatalk / mobile related requests ;)

Tapatalk (free version) you can enable ads for your site. As you say, forum runner isnt so great.

But they do co exist without any interference (I have done it and have it running, as thats what the users wanted)

Nothing, several people here would do it (you and me included) for free. I have sent an offer to Assembler to fix up and install addons to bring everything into the modern age. But he seems concerned about someone having temp admin access. While understandable, there is far more for me to lose than to gain from doing anything to this site. Also, anything that was done - would be reversible anyway, making it even more pointless to break his trust.

In short, probably wont ever be done.

Kev, you really should let these guys assist you with the forum. You're quite busy, and it can fix a lot of problems. Think you can trust both these guys.

Tapatalk is premiere for easy surfing of forums on phones. Not gunna lie, I have checked a couple times over a span of a couple years hoping in vain that it was added.

Kevin does care, but he doesn't get that much spare time and when he does he is either sick or dealing with other issues. It has been some years since I did web development of any kind and I'm sure myself and others could easily figure it out too, but we are moderators, not administrators.

I believe he did ask some users to perform an overhaul some time ago but has since lost contact with them which has probably hardened his stance trusting other people.

Nah, he got screwed by someone who did the site, used an illegal copy of vBulletin (despite Kev paying for it), left a load of things broken then disappeared.

Multiple choice is no problem if it doesn't clash. Personally, I don't see why people would want to use clunky apps at all - responsive design is the way to go and what I do automatically with any site I design. Tapatalk would never see its way onto my phone - I've used it before and hated it - especially that boot permission. Totally unnecessary. You guys go ahead and clog your system resources for no reason on boot, though.

Doesnt run on boot for me =/ (unless you are talking about that it has the permission to? which granted, it does. But its not running on mine after a reboot)

But even if it did, oh noes its using some of the 2gb of ram that like 1.2GB is free at any one time! what ever shall I do!

Unused ram, is wasted ram and all that.

But besides (my) piss taking replies - I can understand his reluctance if hes been stung like that before.

Yeah, it wasn't a great situation. I seem to recall there being weird mods he made (badly) that actually made things worse when Kev tried to upgrade, too!

Interesting if it doesn't load on boot, but the majority of apps do just for the hell of it. And I have no desire to have to close yet another crappy app that wants to waste my battery. Like I said, using an app like that at all is just laziness on the website designer's part - I'd have thought even vBulletin 4 would have responsive grid themes available. And yeah, I appreciate Kev's far more likely to have just used a stock theme than create one from scratch, but I'm just talking in general. The vBulletin 5 responsive design seems to work nicely. No point using an app to access a website if you don't need to - far better to design the website to adapt to small resolutions.

Thank you and yes its work but its not a lot of work tho, as you have been told numerous times in this thread and others especially as others have offered to do it for you but you have not responded so yes its now up to you to do the work

the fact people have been asking for it for over 2 years should give you an indication that its a wanted feature and you never know it may allow more people to enjoy your site, ones that dont like crappy mobile themes and want something quick and responsive to use on a portable device

    ta!

You sign up to a website and then upload a folder. Not going to take more than 5 minutes

    Yup!

For me, tapatalk's killer feature is push notifications for subscribed threads and pms. I mean, come on, how handy is that!?
