Assembler - can you install the tapatalk plugin?

Hope this is implemented i love tapatalk

 

To all of the people saying that it is so easy to install, I have to say that I personally would never just "upload a folder" to a site like this. I would want to verify and test that there is nothing in the plugin that is going to break anything, especially if it is for a small number of users. I know ASSEMbler has said before that there is a lot of customization on the forums (I don't know if this still holds true with the current incarnation), but it is ridiculously easy to break compatibility with any plugin. There would also be no way in hell that I open up the back end for someone else to do it.

 

Its not a plugin and it doesnt modify any of the vb files.

Its a standalone interface to the database. It uses the tables for posting messages and pm's and thats about it, any custom tables/fields wouldnt make any difference - as the ones tapatalk needs to work, vbulletin also needs to work. Customization or not, it wouldnt make any difference.

If you dont know how it works, probably shouldnt comment on it. Its also not like this is some backwater app, its used by a hell of a lot of sites. If it was breaking stuff, you would have heard about it.

 

I'll echo what Bad_Ad84 is saying. I have a phpBB3 forum (DCEmulation) that has been running for almost 15 years now, it's been converted from vB to phpBB2 and to phpBB3 and a hell of a lot of customizations have been done to it over the years.

I'm pretty cautious about adding anything additional to it because the database is truly massive and a lot of common SQL software will hang or time out when running queries on it, and thus I don't want to mess with anything custom or third party. I'm personally not too fond of using Tapatalk on my phone but my users have asked for it enough times that I relented. It is literally the easiest "modification" (if one would even call it that) I have ever done to forum software, it is literally creating an account on their site and then uploading a folder. You don't overwrite any of your forum's software or modify any of its files. You literally just upload a folder alongside the others.

 

Please tell me there is a why to disable that stupid "sent from bllablablablabla" for the entire site cause I will agree that tapatalk can be convenient but I just really REALLY hate that message
(and no I don't use tapatalk and have no plan to ever use it)

 

I did look into it before I posted and I won't argue the semantics of calling it a plugin, but my point still stands. I'm not saying that it is bad or that there will be any problems using it, just that it is unreasonable to expect someone to simply drop it on their server on a whim.

 

Any updates?

nope, according to what Assembler has said, he thinks its a lot of work when its not, but either way guess hes struggling with it
