So One is an album with Young Lando Calrissian and the other has Bohdi Rook... who knew Star Wars actors had bars?

Been a while since I posted but I got a couple of new things for the record collection, Tom Jones' debut album and Fire House Rock by Wailing Souls:

Also had to replace the stylus of my turntable, the Grado Labs Black1 needle I was using initially broke on me. Instead of replacing it, decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to this little guy pictured here:

Gotta say, the Ortofon 2M Red sounds fantastic for the 99 USD I paid for it. I know it is not the best stylus out there but dang, it is a lot cleaner than the Grado Black I was using and has very even sound for anything I threw at it. It gives my hi-fi setup a good workout, that's for sure.

A bit of everything! Some of my favorites in my collection have been All Eyez on Me by 2Pac and The Chronic by Dr. Dre, friends who come over who don't know anything or are just getting into vinyl are shocked when they see those two! I've also gotten quite a few records from thrift shops of various genres.

Last big pickup was the Lil Ugly Mane boxset that consisted of 4 vinyl albums and 4 cassette tapes. My most recent pickup was Thriller by Michael Jackson.

Thrift shop around here had it on display, $28 regularly but on half off day I nabbed it for $14. To make it even better this shop is tax free :^)

Noice, funny you mention 2Pac and Dre because I have been collecting the music from the golden age of hip-hop like that lately, but on cassette tape. As weird as it sounds, it feels right on the format.

I don't know man, I'm just not a cassette man. I have some nostalgia for them but outside of having fun copying (or should I say dubbing) and making mixtapes I never liked cassette as a main format. Although many indie and small artists are making cassettes because of the comeback of them, their genres, and they're cheap and easy to make/sell. In the past few years I've bought a handful of tapes but they're all sealed since I more got them to support the artist or they were included with things I bought. Only ones in my collection are:

System of a Down - System of a Down
    Action Bronson - Mr. Wonderful
    nothing,nowhere. - bummer / who are you?
The 4 that came in the LUM boxset mentioned earlier.

Oh man, I missed out on his Life After Death release. It was pricey and spanned across 4 fantastic vinyl.

Admittedly it is not a great format at all, but with the right deck they can actually sound pretty good for what they are. Kinda unlearned my previous experiences after watching a video by Techmoan about the format and realized they are not AS bad as I remembered. Playing Public Enemy with Dolby Noise Reduction on and having that faint hiss kinda adds to the rawness of Chuck D's diatribes and Flava Flav's clowning around. Mileage may vary but still. :p

I've seen that same video! It was definitely a great revisit to cassettes but.... I'm good between digital/CD/vinyl :p

You're the second person I've talked to who has mentioned tape hiss! A friend of mine who was gasming about cassettes told me he loved the sound of tape hiss and I told him that's due to the low quality. It depends on the genre though, he listens to a lot of obscure LoFi artists so that tape hiss definitely adds to the aesthetic and feel of the music.

For anyone interested, this is the video Jahk and I are referencing:

I share the same view as Mr. Moan, I embrace tech old and new so I definitely roll with digital as much as possible. I mean hey, I do the same with games and computers, why not do it with music? :p

but yeah the hiss, might want to tell him that Dolby NR will make his world turn upside down with the lo-fi artists. :p

I am going to get into casettes once I get an epic ghetto blaster Casette deck. Might even make Jazz Mix tapes too if I can get high enough quality casettes.

IF you want the true jazz ghetto sound, gotta blast Guru's Jazzmatazz albums. Get the best of both worlds that way. :p

As you can see above I DO have the first one. Gang Starr also sampled a Night in Tenisuia on their first album so I'm getting that eventually too.

My Ultimate Jazz and Rap Vinyl collection might be interrupted soon....there are Nine Inch Nails reissues coming.

My wife (K-Panggg) has been using a Kallax as well, quite handy for storing records, only difference is we bought the doors "insert" to keep them away from dust.
