Just give it to the active members on hear that "can" keep a secret than giving it to people that will only use the site to get Sonic Xtreme and never come again. If thats to steep then I suggest a delay. I'm not being evil but HXC has just openly told everyone when ASSEMbler has stressed enough that it should all be "top secret" till it is out. It really makes me mad seeing the threads appearing on senntient "Will you mod your saturn for this?". I'm sure fellow ASSEMbler users will agree with me on this that something should be done if everyone agrees.

Delaying it a day or two sounds like a good idea, but what if somebody leaks that little piece of information? Will we delay it again? That could get kind of ridiculous.

I whole heartedly agree with doing something to mess with individuals who can't keep a secret..need to chastise these people who are incapable of keeping said secrets.

I day or two delay (followed by further delays if people keep leaking information) would be great.

 a delay would really piss off those odd balls over at Sonic Cult. Quite funny if you ask me.

If anyone here can code for the Saturn, I suggest making a program that says "Psych! (or Sike, if you like) You shouldn't have leaked shit" or a pic of Goatse, and dummy the file so it looks around the right size.

That would piss off A LOT of people :) and get everyone on the internets really mad.

Then release the real thing a few days after.

Of course, that could have negative ramifications.

I think all of you whom are advocating post poning or canceling the wide release are forgeting one thing. This action is not a descision whom anyone here but the owner of the original material is able to make. The incognito member whom owns the original media wants it released to the pubic at large, and those were the terms this community agreed to when the donation drive to help incourage the release was started. This community has no right to decide whether or not the media is given a wide release, only the incognito owner does. My two cents anyway.

That is a very good point, if it was me, I would support delaying it to show up the person who is leaking the information. However I wouldn't do it after posting it here where the leaker can then report back that this is the case.

Personally I'd just ban HXC (again of course as he was already banned once for being a tool...I mean who needs that idiot here?) and whoever fed him info

    a) on the whole set up with the result that he bid on the auction which only members here knew of..and HXC isn't one

    b) on the details of the public release which again were only mentioned here, again which HXC couldn't read.

You know who you are 'person who should keep their sodding mouth shut' and I know several people here who think its the same person as I do. Tosser!

I think you're all overreacting. You can't reasonably expect secrecy when this forum had so many people mass subscribed. More over, I don't see the point of willing secrecy on your project. If you really want secrecy, don't talk and do stuff. It's actual releases that are advancing the situation, not eternal discussion.

Frankly, I can't see what the fuss is about this Sonic Xtreme thing. It's been over discussed and Sonic fans are generally immature. It's a nice technical demo, but demo of this kind are being created EVERY DAY in the world. It's not like it's a fully playable game. Just have the thing released, one way or another, and start looking into the future for more projects to uncover.

Punishing a population for the stupidity of a few people won't get you anywhere. There will always be a big enough pool of annoying people and problems that you have to solve to get somewhere. Ignore the worse case, aim for the positive.

Frankly, I can't see this 0bit forum going productive with so many "me too" or useless comments being posted on each thread. Calm down, people.

Omar, the real poison in why we are tired of people can´t shut up, when they are asked to, is because, well do you remember back when a pair of tossers were banned, and this forum went into hackers R us festival ? And it all was about Sonic Extreme, and Chris "something" (can´t remember his surname) condoned the April of fool on The Sonic KKK cult homesite ? and alot of other stuff around that ? Maybe that is why, I am tired of bollocks flying and so forth. Maybe I am the only one who feels that way. But that is how I feel.

But you can though. This place was created out of kindness, and the trust and respect of it members should be and is expected.

Who's to say that this breach of a simple 'keep yer gob shut' rule won't jeopardise future releases for more desirable / substantial releases. At the very least its rather rude and ungrateful to Assembler, the owner, and all the other members here.

I agree with you that it should be released (not that either of us have a say of course and it will be released per the owners wishes) but those who can't keep quiet should be excluded from future discussions. I didn't really care for this one way or the other (its had its only 2 mins it will ever have in my saturn I imagine) but I was more than happy to chip in and of course I'm happy to own a copy. What I don't want though is anything to jeopardise games in the future that I may really want.

Looks like everything's related to Sonic transforms to a riot of immaturity and stupidity. My personal take on that would have been to avoid talking about Sonic Xtreme because you're only feeding their crazyness. People talking about prototypes usually have no idea how the industry works, how things are done, created, decided, they just battle with each other throwing uneducated theories.

I agree that once Assembler setup something and say it should be a secret, people should keep quiet about it (that's what I did, not that a have someone to talk to.. :), *but*, my feeling is that al those forums/coordination/planning/signed binaries/torrent things are making things worse and should be avoided. If Sonic X-Treme was released publicly with no fuss, annoying people would at least shut up.

I stopped actively requesting donation for the SMS Power project because I felt that
    1. It would create too much uncontrolable expectation.
    2. It would encourage people to discuss about money, and owners to request more money for their stuff, generally driving prices up and making things complicated.

No directed attack, I'm just debating and throwing my point of view.
As for me I'll continue to purchase and release Sega 8-bit stuff free of hassle as long as I'm allowed to.

Omar, I am in reality not even a fanboy of Sonic, heck I am more into Mario myself, but not into fandom at all there for that matter, and to go a tiny bit off topic, then when I was a fan of Depeche Mode, then I wasn´t a fanatic fan either back then (and now I am not fan of them, even though I like their old stuff). But I just don´t like when a forum gets hacked . And I think it is stupid, when people can´t hold a secret. But if the secret was the start of WW3 or something else freaky, then I would rather save the world by telling the secret , when I was safe. Than just keeping my mouth shut, but this isn´t WW3, it is a simple game that has been overhyped to the extreme. And in the past, the game has wrecked war in some bad ways. That is why it should be secret, and released when it was time, and not some fuckface leaked the information.

Then release it (whenever you want, to whoever you want) but don't debate it forever before. Leakage are bounds to happens if you discuss about it for months. It's asking for it.

Omar: Leaking information can ruin many good things in the future, if it becomes a habit. If a person wants to release a game , and want to have it just a little private about it. That is why, it was so damn important, that this board didn´t exist. And months ? sorry, this part of the forum haven´t been here in months. And if it has, then it must have been a moderator hangout, and not a semiprivate forum, which some people don´t understand the concept of. Anyway, I rest my case from my side of town.

Well the main leak was in this topic here

    http://www.senntient.com/ubb/Forum13/HTML/000194.html

So I dunno. It definitely names names l, but I don't even know which are member sof this fourm.

But, I admit the way it was leaked is abit immature...

I mean so many hints... then finally just blurting it out and not even editing it...

Still the initial huge interest and speculation came out of the youtube video. As a new appearance of an Assembler Sonic Xtreme video definitely would be suspicious to onlookers. I think this is a specific case to this game because of the assembler history associated with it, making most think it unlikely for him to release anything xtreme related.

Still, just to be safe perhaps in future media should be contained in this sub-fourm till a release date occurs.

Or maybe we shouldn't try and delay release. I mean I do like the idea that the donaters get it first. But on the other hand if it causes this much trouble, I really don't care because in the long term it won't really matter to look back and say that you had an extra month of play before anyone else.
