Believe it or not, i never saw this on arcades back in the day.

I only discovered it watching an arcade cab restorarion on TNT amusements channel. Tried it on MAME and was quite fun actually.

Thanks for the video, who would've thought the Amiga would won it?! :D

Hehe, yeah, I was so surprised at the Amiga version. It really is a great port. Sure, the frame rate is poor like many Amiga games but apart from that it's great.

Toobin is one of those games that to he fair does look a bit crap but it's good fun to play.

Compared to the computer port, the NES version is pretty bad. It should be much better but playing it side by side with say the C64 version it's pretty clear the NES port is not that good.

Could be ye olde Nostolgia goggles. It's one of those games I grew up on and have a soft spot for.
Played in Arcades, Played on the NES. Played on XBOX, Played on PS3.

I DO think the version for the PS1 is actually a port and not an emulation. I think it has remixed music as well. I'll have to research that.

Yeah it was, and Toobin on PS1 did have remixed music. From what little I gathered on that collection it was simular to the Namco Museum series on PS1 direct ports from the arcade source code.

Wow. Only knew Toobin' by name (to be honest I know many Atari Tengen games only by name, Off the Wall, Pit Fighter, Marble Madness...), seems like it's fun, plus it is a very interesting concept. Cool episode.

Thanks. You really do need to play it as an arcade game to get the most out of it though.

I noticed you keep dying in the same spot I do (that pond jump)

The PlayStation port is indeed a port using the original source code of the Arcade game.

A bit of a new title for this week's Battle of the Ports. It's Mr. Driller!

There's also an XBLA port of Mr Driller, unless that one is more of a sequel, seems pretty much the same though.

That will either be emulated in which case it can't be featured or its on of the many follow ups.

Pac-Land always looked too basic, in my opinion. Never had any interest on it.

As for Mr.Driller, it's another that's still on my PS1 wishlist. Love it, reminds me how great Namco was on the 32bit days.

And yes, i played it a lot on my old K750 phone.

Never played Mr Driller before, looks like fun!

Dreamcast version I think and dam you Namco if you continued to support the DC things may have been o so different.

The Dreamcast version is th e best but saying that it's pretty obvious I'm bitter about how Namco left the Dreamcast with a piss easy port of a low tech game.

I agree, it must have taken a few days to port it!!

They had so much more to offer, Soul Calibur 2 or an original Ridge Racer title would have been great!

I mean, SC II came out months after the last US or EU DC games (NHL 2k2 and Razer Freestyle Scooter, respectively, btw). I think Namco supported the Dreamcast pretty well. Not as well as companies like Crave or Infogrames. And Acclaim put out a crapload on it (emphasis on crap).

No way. Namco didn't support the Dreamcast at all. Soul Calibur was the only big game and Mr. Driller was a weeks worth of porting work. Konami supported the DC well more than Namco did. Basically as soon as the PS2 was out Namco moved to that for their money makingmaking. This is before the Dreamcast was in big trouble.

Namco could have easily made an original Ridge Racer or another original game but they didn't.

Yeah I agree. Soul Calibur, Mr. Driller and one release of Namco Museum. They could've at least ported over Tekken Tag over to Dreamcast considering how well they handled the Soul Calibur port on the patform :(
