Battle of the Ports - Out Run is now up on You Tube. The 60fps version will be added to the official site within 2 weeks.
Gonna watch it later tonight. I still remember how much i liked playing the actual arcade version when i was a kid. When i got a Master System, i rented it's port so many times.
Your newest episode of BOTP has come to two sub-reddits. C64 and Amiga reddits, so be ready to answer the "army of reddit", when they come by your videos But still it is good to see you finally getting some recognition for the fine job you have done over the years
Oh no. I can see all the Amiga fan boys giving me hell now by saying stuff such as "Amiga programmers never had the sorce code" and so on. True that they never but that doesn't explain why the game runs like shit when many other Amiga racing games are smooth. it also doesn't explain that awful opening music
At least you know, that I am not going to be so fan-boyish. Anymore at least, but anyway . You truly deserve a lot of credit for the work you have done over the years. But again I am just a bit worried about the content ID match system and all that. With your great series.
Thanks. Acout the ID matching. I actually held back on uploading two of the classic Retro Core titles due to copyright issues I'd had in the past with content on those videos. I want to upload my Tokyo Game Show 2005 video but my DVD master is not reading and the AVI file stops playing after 3 minutes! There's some really cool PS3 stuff on there and a live tech demo by Konami which Konami actually had pulled from YouTube a few years back when I uploaded it.
Watched it last night. The Amiga version wins the WTF Award indeed! Also was surprised to see how bad both MegaDrive and Master System versions have aged. Glad you enjoyed the PS2 Sega Ages version. Being a cheap budget priced game, not to mention a rush job, it's good and fun and has everything apart the Ferrari license. Wouldn't been nice seen a remake using OutRun 2/2006 engine though. PS: Found some preview pics of the PS2 Sega Ages version with a different 3D car model, closer to the original Testarossa. http://www.gamespot.com/sega-ages-2500-series-vol-13-outrun/
The Amiga version of Out Run might be bad, but it's got nothing on the first version of After Burner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERJ9-i9prng I don't think the Master System version is bad at all considering the hardware; sure, the PC Engine is also an 8-bit console, but its hardware is much more powerful, so they shouldn't be compared.
Holly shit, that version of Afterburner is awful. What the hell was it saying when it should have been "fire" to me it sounded like "gable geble" or maybe it was actually saying "gerbil gerbil"?
Is it just emulation or an actual port? I try to stay away from emulation since its just the same as the arcade game.
Battle of the Ports - Galaxy Force II The offcial site version of the OutRun video will be up tomorrow.
I must admit, I do not know what I smoked back in the early 90s when I played the Amiga. And thought it was the dogs bollocks. Cause I did not smoke back then, so I am grateful that the veil has come off my eyes, and at the same time shocked. That I used to hail the Amiga computer to the high heavens. And now I am like "WTF ?". Cause I know the Amiga was seriously a fantastic machine. So what has happened. I have no clue. But great episode I must say
You're not the only one. Back in the day I also though the Amiga was the best system on the planet and for some original games it is but the majority of arcade games are really poor on the system.
Another great Battle of the Ports Yakumo! I remember playing Galaxy Force for SMS and being very mad about those tunnel sections. Also i'm surprised to know the game wasn't ported to more systems.
Me too. As mentioned at the beginning of the video, there's also a FM Towns version and 3DS as well as Japanese phones but that's it. I'm very surprised it never got a X68000 port. That would have been the most capable system too.
I'm very honestly here, I think the SMS version of Galaxy force is superior to everything shown in the MD version including the music (if played in FM), which is even much more faithful played to Namiki Koiji's arcade composition than the shit is going on on the MD.
I've been watching these and Retrocore on my TV something to be said about the production values when it feels like I'm watching a Legit TV show and that said, here's an idea, Lots of commercials for the games done on Battle of the ports are out there. WHy not start the show off with a few of them, or end it with them Makes for a good complete history piece.
