Thanks for the new Battle of the Ports Yakumo! Great stuff, as usual. Sega should bring back Power Drift, using current technology. By the way, here's some suggestions for future Battle of the Ports: Virtua Racing, Virtua Figher 2 and Virtual On.
All nice ideas but all with very little ports, well except Virtual Racing. VF2 is only on the arcade, Saturn and PS2. The 360 and PS3 versions don't count IMO since they are arcade emulation.
Wooo, will have to download GF2 when I get home from work tonight! I'm about half-way through the first Dezaemon 2 special, really blown away by some of the homebrew stuff out there, loving that 60fps quality as well! I really enjoy the ports that check out all the old 8-bit micros, and was thinking how about an SF2 one? It had all those terrible ports by US Gold in addition to the SMS and would also include 16-bit consoles plus the 3DO too!
Virtua Fighter 2 has a Windows95 and a MegaDrive "port" as well. PS: Street Fighter 2, as MangledLeg suggested, would be awesome as well.
I think a good one to do for a battle of the ports would be Twinkle Star Sprites It is available on neo geo, neo geo cd, saturn, dreamcast, ps2, wii virtua console
Virtua console releases don't count since they are just emulated versions. When it comes to games on consoles such as a PS2 then I need to actually own the game since my emulation PC isn't powerful enough to emulate PS2 or Dreamcast perfectly. My desk top is but that's the machine that does the recording. For Dreamcast not being to emulate it on my laptop emulation computer isn't a problem since I own pretty much ever DC game released in Japan anyway My PS2 collection is only about 60 titles big. So quite small compared to my other console collections. Now, if someone was to buy me the games .........
Really enjoyed the Galaxy Force 2 video, nice work Yakumo! In terms of ideas, perhaps the Konami TMNT (the first one) would be interesting since it got such a huge variety of ports?
Tmnt first arcade is on the cards. Funny that Alterd Beast should be mentioned because that was going to be the next show but I changed my mind at thhe last minute for another classic Sega title from around the same time. The new BOTP will go live on YouTube tomorrow night.
Sounds exciting, looking forward to the next episode! Also, I realised I wasn't clear that I actually had the TMNT platformer game in mind above, but the arcade game sounds equally awesome to me!
Mmmh You've done Golden Axe and Dynamite Dux. I guess, this might be either time for a certain ninja or opa-opa to make an appearance?
I don't know how you're getting the arcade footage for these, but if I could make a suggestion, if you're using an emulator you may want to either check the audio settings or try using a different arcade emulator because with the arcade versions, I've noticed that the arcade music sounds like it has a slightly lower pitch than what it should be in some games, namely SEGA games, 3 examples I found are Space Harrier, Golden Axe and Outrun, otherwise great series.
A lower pitch or lower volume? Ive not noticed a lower pitch myself but the volune can be quite llw at times.
It's at a lower pitch listen to the Space Harrier theme in the arcade clip and then listen to the 32x version and you'll hear the pitch difference, for Outrun listen to the arcade version of Magical Sound Shower then listen to the version heard on the PS2 version.
Maybe it's the consoles that are odd. I own a Space Harrier soundtrack CD so I'll check out the video compared to that to see if they do sound different.
Hey Yakumo-sama If you want to show the Amiga some love. Then you should make some mini comparison episodes. Between PC versions and the Amiga versions. And here I can mention, Superfrog , Moonstone, Dune II, the SSI rpgs (I recommend you to take on the Eye Of The Beholder 1 and 2). Project X, Lemmings, and especially Space Crusade (damn, the pc version there is HORRIBLE) and there are probably other games too . To show the real "power" of the Amiga computer. Cause yeah it looks like, that the Amiga was great. But damn when it comes to certain conversions/ports of some games. Who ever did the ports/conversions fucked it up big time. Anyway great episode of Alien Storm. The only rather odd thing I can say is, I feel when the lady in the arcade version of the game says "lets go", then she sounds like Eric Cartman from South Park.
All new Battle of the Ports - Alien Storm @WolverineDK - Yeah, i know the Amiga had loads of great games but they seem to be all original titles. Most of the arcade ports are total shit. Nice idea about the PC vs Amiga feature. maybe sometime in the future.
