Yep, Power Drift will be going up at the same time as Alien Storm. I'm going to be numbering the shows too so people who like to keep them in release order can do so with ease. At the time the Saturn Galaxy Force was amazing. It still holds up well now but it is a shame as you said about the frame rate.
GALAXY FORCE II is also one of my favorite games, the atmosphere is pleasing to say the least. Unfortunately the game does not like over clocking and the super scaling goes wacky or raising the FPS over 72 and everything is black except the ship, i would love to play it on turbo.
Yeah, it seems like the Saturn could do almost anything any 2D arcade hardware could do, but there were some exceptions.
It's that time again Alien Storm and Power Drift have been added to the official site too but the Alien Storm downloads are not available thanks to a bloody hard drive crash destroying the files http://www.segagagadomain.com/botp/botp-menu1.htm
my hands hurt thinking about beating the c64 and nes versions, i had the honor of playing the arcade when it first came out at golden ring mall it was really rad.
I'm seeing about recovering data from the failed HD but since I'm not too well today or the last few days its going to have to wait a little.
Wow, I loved the VF2 episode, and thought it was smashing. But now to the Robocop episode.. God almighty ! I do not know what I smoked when I was a child(I did NOT smoke back then, mind you). But damn I am horrified when it comes to the Amiga version. Seriously let us just say this. It is pure madness, what kind of shite of arcade ports. That has been made to the Amiga, but I still like the Amiga version of Golden Axe, in lack of better versions. But if you think of doing a BOTP of Mortal Kombat, I know you will be harsh at the Amiga version. But I still had lots of good fun with MK on the Amiga, and so did I with SF2 on the Amiga. Even though I had the SNES version of SF2 and SF2 Turbo at home. And to this I still love the "scene" with all the mods and demos and all that jazz. So to any one who thinks I am a "heretic" to the Amiga community, then I must say. No I am NOT. I still love the Amiga to this day. It seriously kicked arse BIG time !
Great news for those fans of the 60fps downloads. I've managed to recover the Alien Storm files so there will be downloads on the official site of the 30fps and 60fps versions from tomorrow evening.
Awesome! I'll keep an eye out for it. I saw the Power Drift episode, by the way. Very nice. Pretty advanced game for its time.
Hey Yakumo did you ever compare the music from your Space Harrier CD with the music from the arcade clip you had in your Space harrier battle of the ports episode to see if the music in the arcade clip was at a lower pitch?
No, I've been ill over the last week with the flu and now I've got a billion things to do again. Tonight I'm making the new Battle of the Ports. Tomorrow I'm out all day and drinking all night and Sunday I'll have a hang over Maybe Monday.
The official site version of Alien Storm is now ready for download while over on You Tube there's an all new Battle of the Ports - Midnight Resistance. Official site - http://www.segagagadomain.com/botp/botp-menu1.htm
Yakumo-sama I fucking love your show. You kick so much arse, with your BOTP and your RTC series. Thumps up, and I hope other Danes will watch your show. Cause as far I can see. You have been going on with your fantastic show for such a while. That you can still surprise me with what you figure out Yakumo, I am already waiting for your next episode of either RTC or BOTP. Mate you are the dogs bollocks. And if it offends you, then I am sorry. You are doing a fantastic job Seriously thumps up, and of course I will some times utter some critique out. Since we do not agree with everything. But seriously though, Thumps up from me !
Ocean were not given the task of porting Robocop in the home versions as your flippantly put it. Ocean licenced Robocop at the script stage and paid $20,000 for the licence, Ocean then sold the licence for the Game to Data East (this is why it sort of clearly states 'Licensed from Ocean Software Ltd' on the title screen of the arcade game). As Gray Bracey said at the time "Even though we were basing it on the arcade game [which wasn't released at the time], we wanted our home versions to differentiate from the coin-op. So we came up with the idea of incorporating some extra sections to make them a little more unique.". The Apple ][ and IBM PC versions were farmed out to american software developers Quicksilver, which is why they are slightly different. As for the 8 bit versions being too hard, it was said by the programmers that the play testers said the game was too easy so they tweaked it. Saying that if you learn the patterns it's still quite easy.
Yeah, I found out about the ocean RoboCop deal after making the video. A bit of a fuck up there by me. WDK, thanks for the kind words. The next BOTP is now in production as is the next RTC show. Expect them in about one weeks time.
Oh yes, forgot to berate you for missing out versions of the game... Robocop was also converted to the Tandy Color Computer 3 and it was a cartridge based game too (it was 128K too). http://www.lcurtisboyle.com/nitros9/robocop.html The IBM PC version also had a EGA / Tandy 1000 / PC-Jr graphics mode too which looks a lot better then the CGA version. If you want to do games where you are not calling the Amiga version a pile of donkey poo then look at Rodland or Rainbow Islands. Although get around to Chase HQ and you'll see why C&VG gave the Spectrum version that years highest rating with Super Mario Brothers 3 on the NES.
I know Speccy Chace HQ all too well. I owned it as a kid. I also know about the Tandy version of Robocop and the different PC graphical modes however I don't claim to include every version of a game in the show. I did actually try to run the Tandy version of RoboCop but either the ROM was a bad dump or the EMU just wasn't playing ball. I couldn't get it to work.
