That's because most arcade ports on Amiga and other home computers were rushed cash-ins. Also, the 3DS version of GFII is fantastic.
Hmm, the idea of including an add for the game featured in the show is interesting. I'll have a think about that.
it sure is. It's basically the PS2 version in 3D. One game that every 3DS owner should have or at least try.
I watched the Out Run episode last night. It was a very good episode. I totally agree with you about the GBA version - it's not bad, but not very good either. The GBA could've handled a much more accurate version - probably not arcade-perfect, but better than what actually resulted, anyway. I still need to get the Saturn version; it's gone up in price a little, though not massively so. I have Space Harrier and After Burner II for Saturn already. I'd also like to get the PC Engine version eventually. Anyway, it was a good episode. I'm looking forward to the Galaxy Force II episode.
Glad you liked it. The Galaxy Force II episode has the scrolling text along the bottom of the screen. It actually looks better I think. It was sugested by one of the shows viewers.
Been a week since I last logged in - will queue up the 60fps version tomorrow night after work, my terrible connection won't get it sorted out before head off to bed! Looking forward to it, same for the Galaxy Force 2 episode you've just finished up! Oh, and I second the idea for the commercials for the games in question - I used to love those in Retro Core!
I watched the Galaxy Force II episode last night too. Now that tune won't leave my head. As is the case with most late 80s Sega tunes. Dat Sega Bass
That'll be the FM synth goodness of the Yamaha YM2612 chip: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_YM2612
=] Anyway, does anyone know the differences between Galaxy Force and Galaxy Force II arcade versions? Was Galaxy Force just a prototype / test version (like After Burner)?
Yeah, Galaxy Force was basically the same as Galaxy Force II but full of problems. Sega released Galaxy Force II only a few months later fixing all the problems with the original.
Finally got around to checking the OutRun episode on the weekend, loved it! Nice to see my love of the C64 version isn't entirely unfounded too!
Hey, glad yoou liked the show. I'm thinking of doing a Data East game next. Not sure which one but I have a few in mind.
Great show, I enjoyed it Mmhhh Data East, Midnight Resistance? I don't think it had many ports though? EDIT: Actually it did get quite a few ports according to wikipedia, Arcade, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, Atari ST.
I found a channel that does almost the exact same thing as Battle of the ports. Only it's not as good. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgeSfaLXS8Macm3ddzYF_wg
Yea a while back i remember telling Yakumo their was a series that was like his and it was lets compare. I watch both shows for different reasons. One thing i have to say about Yakumo's videos is he does something other LETS PLAY type of shows dont do... use a voice level where you can actually hear the game, I have completely shunned most of these kinds of shows because its usually someone screaming and cant hear the dang game or the voice volume is extremely too loud and obnoxious. Yakumo does a great job making a quality product.
Just a heads up to let everyone know that the next Battle of the Ports will be released next Monday or Sunday if I don't have a hangover.
Official site version of the last Battle of the Ports - Galaxy Force II is now up online - http://www.segagagadomain.com/botp/botp-menu1.htm
