Love it. It's really captured me. I'm about 7 and a half hours in, I just arrived at Zozo. I really enjoy all the characters, especially Locke and Sabin. Don't mind the random encounters at all, I actually prefer them against just choosing when/where to fight. Forces me to get my XP up, which is important. I think the next one I play will be VIII. Anything besides setting/theme/time place different from VI? Like the mechanics? I know you don't collect GP from your fallen enemies.

Yeah I don't wanna speak of Spirits Within's quality, as I have never seen it. I know it didn't make a lot of money at all. Not sure way, it was probably misunderstood.

There are those who will praise VII and X endlessly, but it's mostly 'cus they grew up with them. They are solid, but I doubt they will enchant you. Tidus from X is the worst protagonist SE has designed with fucking overalls and a shirt that does not fit him.

VIII is by far one of the most unique and adventurous systems. Unlike many Final Fantasy games summons (Guardian Force) are absolutely vital to character development, and through their partnership (Junction) with the cast they can learn a wide array of abilities that let you do just about anything the game can offer. Magic also has unique uses that allows you to buff stats, it makes it one of the most open ended systems in the series as it focuses less on equipment to improve your stats but gives you full control of the actual stats them selves. You'll be surprised at just how deep and detailed it is, and with a little patience how easy it can be to get noticeable results. You seem pretty excited to play it so I would just go with it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    @ MBMM.
if you get time, watch it. it's a good enough film to burn a little time on the retinas, there's MUCH MUCH worse DRECK that gets better attention and passed off as 'box office' quality, this deserves a view at least!
if you don't enjoy it, it won't fuck up your eternity by ruining the day...same for games. (either they're enjoyed, or not)
    ...
i wanted to see it in the theater, but it's true it can't have made much money, the showing was cancelled and replaced with some unremarkable chick (with dick) flick, that's what we're up against! (or was it some 'saw' like shit? can't remember, was gutted and subsequently TANKED up out of my cheesebox, needed it!)
got the dvd from a model shop owner who had the full set of figures, paid thirty gbp for the lot, NO REGRETS.
still have em all, worth it! :cocksure:
    so, yeah!
if you have a couple of hours, give it a view. (and why they never made the zeus orbital platform/cannon part of the action set is beyond me. it's would've been the tits, with all the compartments and whatnot! come to think of it, a LOT of potential figures are missing from the line-up.)
    [edit]
    typo.

Didn't Final Fanasty Spirits Within failed during Box Office sales & reasons was because, the movie itself didn't felt like a "Final Fanasty" type and more of something else instead? cuz, looking at the poster the very first time back around 2001 (or was it 2002?) you wouldn't think that's Final Fanasty and thought it'd be more of a Si-Fi/Thriller action animated movie but OFF CORUSE Square JUST gotta happen to naming it Final Fanasty and not simply call it something different?

I thought that it actually felt pretty decent as an FF story. The problem is that you really cannot condense the plot of an FF game into a movie and expect non-fans to make it a blockbuster.

I have a feeling I'm really going to enjoy VIII. Although I wanted to start with that one, I feel like VI was a good choice. Its slowly phasing me into the gameplay. Its nice to get into a game that's not all shooting something in the face or driving. Definitely satiates what I was craving.

I'll have to give the flick a view. It was pretty hyped whenever it came out. Although I agree with Mairsil. I could see it being difficult to put FF's large plot into a movie.

IMHO, Spirits Within had great CGI but that's it. Voice acting was not too bad, but wasn't great either. Story was lame, with no relation to anything FF.

FF fans have told me Advent Children is a better movie. AC does not explain much and kind of expects you to have played VII. Film enthusiasts bashed it for being action fan service for VII fans, but that was enough for me.

Then I will wait to watch that until I play VII. There's just so much in the FF universe.

Yeah, don't try Advent Children without playing (and comprehending) FF7's story first. If you like the movies, the anime series is also pretty good (Final Fantasy: Unlimited).

It's been awhile since i last saw it back years ago on demand comcast (back when they had a shit ton of anime shows & related sub channels in their catalogue selection) i remembered always admiring the vincent guy with the two revolvers he'd always carried with lol.

So a few days ago I ran into the Opera part of FFVI. How awesome that was. Never got that involved with a fictional story INSIDE a fictional game. Spoiler free, are there any other moments similar to that section in the other games that stood out to anyone?

FFVIII and FFIX both have similar moments. I think if it's the really personal touches in the story that you like, both of these games will suit you perfectly.

Awesome! Yeah, I wanted to play the FF games due to their characters and bonds these characters share. For instance, I'm really excited to see how things turn out between Locke and Celes. Although Locke isn't the strongest or most necessary character when battling, I feel for him. I'm also curious about his back story. It seems the game keeps alluding to it but has yet to give me definite answers. Also Cyan's story is absolutely heartbreaking. That was another moment I got the feels for.

As you play (especially the side missions), you will get a lot of backstory of most of the characters. If you are at the opera, I would say that you have quite a ways to go.

The Pandemonium bit of FF9 is one of my favorite FF moments of any game, even if FF9 isn't in my top 3 favorite games overall. You're Not Alone (the song playing at that point) is one of my favorite pieces of FF music. That's probably not a coincidence.

Did you hear about how some guy is claiming that they're working on a FFVII remake for the PS4? Not sure if it's true.
