There's always somebody saying that FFVII is being remade and it never happens. I wouldn't hold your breath, But I hope it's true.
http://www.p4rgaming.com/final-fant...-remake-only-if-square-enix-does-not-make-it/ Lol, even Square Enix employees recognise how badly the franchise is being burried into the ground.
oh, that old DEAD dog. the same was said for a second dreamcast, among many other things. (half-life 3 and HL remake is a good one, VALVE/STEAM time) given up idle, FUTILE speculations. ... next weekend, playing ff6 to it's fullest... 1, get supplies and lock that door: CHECK! :witless: 2, converting retail disk image to pbp: pending. :wink-new: may have a shadow hearts trilogy marathon next month...? [edit] typo.
Even if that article was correct, it wouldn't surprise me. I could totally see those comments being true given the current state of SE with regards to FF.
FFI - IV I've never played. FFVI I just couldn't get into at all. FFVII was my first foray into the Final Fantasy world and I love it dearly. I was 12 when it came out and I just couldn't get enough of it, I've always got a save game on a PS1 memory card somewhere that I go back to but the Steam version is also good as well providing you swap out the music files for the PSX version which are far superior to the MIDI versions in the PC game. If FF7 sucks you in then you'll want to explore the rest of the universe which can be quite rewarding. Crisis Core is a decent game (which I recommend you play after the main game otherwise it'll spoil some of the story for you) and Advent Children is a good fan pleasing film but I recommend the Complete version and watch it with JP audio with subs as the voice acting can grind (same goes for Crisis Core actually). Also Dirge of Cerebus is quite playable too but Vincent Valentine was probably my least favourite character so I didn't connect with it that well. VIII is a great game but it took some will power on my part to like it, being 13-14 and only being able to access the majority of my gaming news in the magazines I could afford, I was totally confused as to why it wasn't a direct sequel to VII lol but it is good. I strongly recommend you either play it on an actual PSX or emulate it and avoid the PC port which suffers from some horribly blurry backgrounds that will take away from your experience. The only thing I found lacking in FVIII was the over world. In VII you really want to explore every corner of the map, in VIII I found myself more driven to find out what happens next in the story (which is a good thing I suppose) but it never really pushed me to explore on my own and I think as a result the game was much harder towards the end as my characters were severely lacking in ability. IX is a great game too however I found it hard to get through it, I guess after a few years of a more modern FF world I found it hard to grow accustomed to the classic style but it's easily one of the best, I'd say perhaps more so than VIII. X annoyed the crap out of me, I think the only thing which lured me to it was the incredible graphics at the time but now I can't stand to listen to a single minute of Tidus' voice. XI was pretty impressive at the time but was quickly dwarfed by other MMORPG's. It's interesting to have a go at just to see but you'll be shocked at how dated and counterintuitive it is within minutes. XII is a game I really want to finish one day. I loved the open style of it but found the open world slightly overwhelming but for a PS2 game it's pretty incredible and is put together well. I keep telling myself I'll go back to it one day as I never got very far, the difficulty seemed to jump massively all of a sudden and I just didn't have the time or the willpower to carry on (I was at Uni and drinking and girls were more important). I feel like it's one of those games where there is so much to see that I'm missing out on. The battle system is a bit annoying though and you can end up being dicked over quite a lot without realising it. XIII is pure and total garbage. Anyway if I were you I'd start with VII, VIII or IX, they're easy to play and easy to digest but will offer more and more rewards the more effort you put in but you'll still enjoy them with a vanilla play through. Whatever you decide on I hope you enjoy them but I will say, if you hate one, don't write off another. Yes they share similar traits across the series but they're all so very different and I think that's what makes square so good at what they do, they've never been afraid to break their own formula a bit and try something different.
@geluda Hopefully this isn't a spoiler, but I just got to the floating continent. How much longer would you say I have? My guess would be I'm 2/3 of the way through. I have the next 3 days off so I'm hoping to actually finish up with FF VI and move straight to VIII.
To be honest I never finished VI, after playing Chrono Trigger first I couldn't quite keep up with it, but by the amount of time you seem to have been playing I'd say your estimate wasn't far off. Don't worry about spoilers though.
Okay. My interest has started to fein a little bit, but I'm still interested enough to plug away and get to the resolution. Kefka is also a pretty wicked bad guy. You definitely want to finish him off every time you have to battle him. Also I was saddened by the general Leo situation. That legitimately surprised me, totally caught off guard. Also Geshtal has peeved me off as well. No doubt he'll rise to be the REAL bad guy.
Depends on how you want to play the game. If you want to go straight to the end, then you really only need to do a couple of things. If you want to explore and experiment, there are some side-quests to do which would put you closer to only being half way there instead of 2/3 through.
If you stopped trying to troll in every thread and read what I actually wrote, you would understand that: doing the side quests means that he is only about half way done with the game at the floating continent skipping the side quests means that he is about 2/3 done with the game at the floating continent
I just skimmed through the post and misread. I am an idiot my bad. I have never tried to troll here I just have controversial opinions most of the time.
Yeah... a huge complaint of the newer FF games is that they are way too linear. I get that it's kinda a waste of time (and money) to put in secret side quests into a game, but those things add flavor to the game & its world, which gives fans something to really sink their teeth into and think about even after the game over screen.
Why would that ever be a waste of time/money? Sure, not everyone is going to do every little thing in a game, but especially for this genre, sidequests are expected and can be hugely fulfilling.
