So maybe some of you already know this, but for those who dont, the black X360 codename Elite is now almost official and will be pricey too... Packing a much needed (for what I've heard) 120GB HDD and a HDMI port. It runs cooler but theres still no info on the size of the CPU die. It will not have a HDDVD drive or WiFi built-in, since MS doesnt plans to bundle it with any SKU. The bad news is the price: is going to be $479 USD, which makes me wonder if MS is going for the whole "if it black is pricey" that Apple uses with the black Macbook and Nano. But also the system is going to be a limited edition, so when it runs out the premium version will have the same specs but the old white case, but on the other hand it will also bring the price down. The sources say that the Elite will be over by late summer or fall, and then the premium will take over. Theres also the possibility that the price may come down even below the actual $399 since by the time all new units will have the new 65nm chips. So, if you plan on buying a X360 (like me) I'll rather wait.... Source EDIT: more pics below
ew. I don't want a white ugly HD-DVD add-on sitting next to this sexy thing. for a 50$ difference, the PS3 is a better purchase. Especially considering a) it has the ability to accept any standard SATA hdd, and b) it's a BluRay player out of the box! Now microsoft, you have loveshoved your own bum. The price is not right, definetely wrong.
I thought this was pretty common knowledge by now. Why make a thread on it? To contribute, I think Microsoft is going about this in the wrong way. I like options, and while making the black case a "special edition" will generate quick cash, I think it would be better off as an alternative to the white case. Not all of us have $479 to blow on a console just because it's got a nifty black case.
Man that source has no idea what its talking about, they say the pic is of a 360 dev kit.Im curoius if the retail black 360 will have the chrome dvd brezel or just a black one.
So it will be named Elite? O_O I read it the other day and thought it was the reporter who got it all wrong.. I thought that Microsoft was a bit better on naming things..
So the real pics got leaked, which means its official. It seems they made a lot of the accesories black too (but no HDDVD drive barc0de:-() There you go: The Box Elite and Premium Some accesories The new 120GB HDD
Lower priced Premium post HDMI port insertion meet plasticote paint can - plasticote paint can meet lower priced Premium post HDMI port insertion. I think that just about sums up my opinion in being expected to pay more for black over white. I got sick fed up with price variations on specific manufacturers models whilst working in the retail industry. I simply don't see the point. As a huge Xbox (original and 360) fan I just feel that MS are coaxing me back into the store to replace my older unit for a hefty price. I think these units should be made available to those of us who purchased the original 360 within days of release. If we were prepared to jump at that time and ride out 3 machines (in my case) we should be given a prize lol. I'll be getting the new Premium in the end, but whether I plum for it whilst it's black genuinely depends on the price - if it is a great deal more, I am going to also wait. I think I would manage a cheaper job once 3rd party replacement cases appeared on the market. Yay 120Mb HDD - about bloody time! Boo the 120Mb HDD is not some gorgeous black finish :-( I do agree "the Elite" is a shitty name. Not cool. I much prefered the 'Zephyr' ...anyone else think those images look something you could have knocked up in photoshop within about 45mins?
There actually is a black HD-DVD drive, but only issued to certain MS employees. The pics also do look a little bit off.
Out of curiosity, how much is the production cost on the 20 GB hard drives? It would seem like it would be cheaper if they went the PS3 route and had a mini-hard drive inside instead of a custom made model.
I reckon those screenshots are doctored up versions of the normal stuff. I'm not saying this isn't going to happen, but they look kind of strange Scoob!
Yeah me too but it would wear out quickly due to costant use... Yeah cheaper for us, but for them an overpriced HDD is a nice way to get some extra bucks out of the installed user base. The HDD is a normal one using a propietary conection, thats all. Plus I wouldnt be surprised if they did it this way to keep piracy/modding as far as possible from the console. Anyways, I'm waiting for the updated premium....
