This week I came across 2 Chinese original Mega Drive games which are surprisingly actually not that bad.

The first is a scrolling beat 'em up along the lines of Capcom's Tenchi wo Kurau II.

The game comes in a card box that's actually well put together considering it's a Chinese effort. No instructions mind you. All the text is in Chinese as well.

The second game is The Lion King II. You'll notice that this game comes in a Japanese style cartridge and a really cheap shitty Mega Drive box clone made out of good old cheap shite.

On the back of the box the text is in English, more likely than not copied from the real Lion King Game but of course in that good old Chinese way.

The game is a decent platform effort. The main sprites are ripped from the original Lion King game but all the other sprites and Back Grounds used within the game are original as is the music. What is odd though is that you can't loose lives !! The life counter never goes down  There are also some not so well planned out map sections on a few levels resulting in impossible to reach areas. Never mind though because in these cases it is actually possible to jump through a wall to reach a reachable section of the level :eek:h:

Check out the lovely knock off Mega Drive logos

Both games have no screws in the cartridges so they are quite easy to get open without damaging the sticker on them (note that it's already peeling off the beat'em up game). The boards inside both games look identical.

The front or Top as they've marked it.

    and the back.

Once I get me video card reinstalled I'll take a few screen grabs.

Nope, My yahoo name is seikouenojp. I got a friend to bid on them for me  He went higher than I wanted though. So in a way I guess it was me who out bid you. Now that I know your Yahoo name I'll keep an eye open so that to not enter a bidding war unless I really want the item

Ah, yes it's the first link you sent mate. I'm sure this one has been ripped before. I'm not too sure if The Lion King II has been ripped though.

    Wow, thx for sharing.

Insanely cost-optimized pcb's (since when the plastic is cheaper than the pcb fiber ?!)

No luck finding King Lion 3 yet? ;P haha

Haha, it might be possible that your version is a pirated version of the original Chinese version LOL... Pirated pirate!

I'll be doing a few as well as a video once I reinstall my caputure card.

So it wasn't you that I out bid then? The people I out bid were oraoramaru and ougonnosachihoko. So if you say I out bid you then you must be one of the above 2 or both or someone bid for you. :)

not cheap but strangely not a rip off in my opinion, due to the fact that they are very singular. good find.

Those Chinese Beat Em Ups are really ace games, been looking for them as well. Glad to see they don't actually cost an arm and a leg (37 Euros for a very rare game is a bargain imo).

    I didn't express myself correctly.
I was going to bid,but by checking the price it already met (i always bid in the last seconds before the 5mn limit),i backed off.
So my name never appeared! :)

You can find loads of Chinese original carts in places like Shanghai still. Some can even be purchased in department stores (Though, they mark up pretty high). On the street, provided you don't look all touristy, you can pick them up for a few dollars. But then again i've seen people who don't know Mandarin or Shanghainese, and end up paying almost $50+ USD for games which is a total rip-off.

I finally got around to installing my video card so here are a few shots of the Lion King II with a video to follow in a few days. Unfortunately I can't do any shots or video from the Chinese beat'em up now because it was sold the other day to a guy in the UK:shrug: Still at least there's the Lion King II

The game starts with this nice little introduction where the two lions run towards the screen. This is all pretty well animated believe it or not !

The intro continues with the two lions playfully running along ending with them standing on this cliff top but just wait to see what happens :eek:h:

    Zoom, Zoom, Zoom !

The Lion King English logo tilts forward and backwards !! Nothing too amazing but still pretty nice.

As you'll notice from these shots, EVERY area in the game takes place in China !
