I guess I was very lucky but it's only of late that I've thrown myself into actively hunting down pirate games - a change from the past few years and my interest in seeking out arcade pcbs locally. I say rare because all the major and minor suppliers of pirated games have never heard of this game - nor have local collectors that have interest in such games. a used game shop in the middle of nowhere has it (having seen the box and cart in the shop on one of my escapades into a provincial area of Buenos Aires today) - I asked the store owner if he could put it aside for me, that I'd pick it up during the week, and he obliged.
I have been seeking out interesting carts, both megadrive and famicom pirate carts, to stock up,maybe start a small dedicated ebay store - I honestly gave up on this one. if I find another I will llet you know.

a bit pissed off I am. picked up the mario world cart and it won't work. I'm using a super senga (a megadrive clone) - the power supply I bought heats up alot and the system makes a strange droning sound which I think is caused by this- hope it could be something to do with that and not a dead ccart, lol. what a shame.

can't believe DBZ Final Bout hasn't been dumped yet. it's ment to be alot better than the official Bandai offering for the megadrive. lol.

so an update on the Mario World pirate - thank goodness - it was the stupid 'super senga' after all.. meh.

I took the game to a local shop where they sell megadrive games and asked if they wouldn't mind testing it. it booted up fine, and I breathed easier - not easy - easier - that's because the first screen was akin to the first scene in the other Mario pirate - the one with the crates - in the introduction you have a gold coin with Mario's face on it (like All stars right? don't recall).

I breathed easy upon the next screen which was the same as shown on that japanese site. the shop worker then proceded to play for about a minute (looked like he was enjoying himself, lol) - I must say, from the little I saw of the game (didn't hear it - not expecting the quality tunes from the SNES version, that would be too much), I was very impressed, and equally suprised. I was expecting a mess a la Donkey Kong Country pirate for megadrive - not the case. the colour pallet was precise, the frame rate and animation seemed very close if not almost identical to the the snes version (I kid you not)

I'm not saying this will end up being a faithfull port - I very much doubt that. the shop worker was pressing jump button making mario do the jumping spin attack for instance - I don't know if this pirate has the normal jump incorporated (I do think it does though). I don't recall seeing the map (you get the map from the get go on the SNES version right? or do you get a pre-screen with a message? (that was what was on this game - and it looked very polished AND SNES-LIKE).

all in all I can't believe it's not butter.
have to pick up a proper sega system then..

Most likely the guy was just pressing one button like A that is assigned to that special jump, not considering pressing anything else :p The original does start off on a map at first. From the sounds of things, it's possible this pirate is just level after level with a pre-screen, like in the original mario bros. If that's the case, they may have simplified the amount of levels altogether :( But we'll see soon I guess.. I can't imagine what they've done to mode 7 bowser

This is great that it turned out to be the right game, I was worried you may have just got a similar cart but it was just that mario bros port. Any idea when you'll be getting a new system to try it on now?

It's a long shot, but is there any chance of ever seeing a dump of this one perhaps? I have to ask :)

It is an unlicensed game, a 2-player strip mahjong game, that goes under the titles of "Kyuukyoku Mahjong," "Mahjong Lady," or "Dial-Q."

It looks like those Chinese pirates were really stupid, and didn't know how to kick the MD into its 256x2xx mode. Thus, it's in 320x2xx mode and has dumb-looking bars covering both screen edges (even when it scrolls horizontally?!!). At least they could have moved some stats or the life bars into the unused screen space... X-(

I am beginning to think, that the Chinese pirate fighting games are based on a very generic 2D fighting engine, that they use to anything when it comes to fighting games. it is just the intro , music , and characters that are different. So it is like an MD "MUGEN" egine, they are using for MD, and for their NES fighters, they are using an NES "MUGEN" egine.

Actually that is exactly what Capcom did for the Saturn ports of Megaman.

This MD version looks, plays and feels exactly like an official attempt of a MM port.

My guess is that this is a some kind of an official prototype that somehow was released in China, just not officially licensed nor authorized by Capcom.

The Rockman X3 was not done by Capcom, I guarantee that. Play it yourself and you'll see why.

I haven't played MMX3 in an eternity and I am not exactly a MM expert but it sure does look and feel like an official effort to me. If it's a pirate it's a freakin' brilliant one.
