You HOPE it is debugged code. ;)

As for Virtua Hamster, there are a few EEPROM carts floating around in collector hands, but it never got much past the concept stage so, as was already mentioned, there isn't a whole lot of game there.

Sup Tempest! You're the guy I was referring to, actually. I'd personally like to play around with the demo, if you manage to dump it.

I'd be very interested in Virtual Hampster too. I've never even seen a good screen shot of it.

I'd love to play Virtual Hamster. I only knew of one person who had it (indirectly), and they sold it. :( I'm glad to see someone is willing to dump the game.

  7. How do you play a copied 32x game? Is there an emu?

Gens plays them, but you have to find the bios before you can play the roms.

Fortunately Tototek makes a nice 32X-compatible flashcard.

Well I discovered that my security screw bit is too small for these screws. I'm going to need to buy one that can do Genesis size screws (the one I have is for NES carts I believe). Once I get the proto open I can see if I can dump the EPROMs, I'm hoping they're not soldered in or something. The proto actually came in an old Doom cart shell, I peeled the Doom label off and put my own on it so I knew what it was (last thing I wanted to do was throw it out thinking it was Doom). I got it from a guy about 3 years ago that had some other rare protos (like Total Carnage for the Jaguar which I'm still kicking myself for not getting), but no one would buy from him since he had no history and seemed a bit shady (I decided to take a chance).

So where can I get a security bit that can open Genny carts?

Hmm, I don't know about that, but if there's only two screws and they're not sunken you might succeed using the 'pen trick' (use a ballpoint pen shell as a screwdriver by melting it), or heck, even pliers.

Sonic X-Treme does not exist in any coherent form resembling a game, though there are individual segments that were produced. One is an open area level test that has Sonic running around a very bare 3D level inspired by the Green Hill Zone. This one runs on a variant of the Nights engine if I'm not mistaken. Another is a single arena boss battle that has Sonic facing off against Mecha Sonic in an area inspired by the Casino Zone.

I wish sega would whore out all their history in a big fat book with a cd with contents. Even if they charged like $100 for it they would be in the money!

Plus I hear it only ran at about 5 fps on an actual Saturn. I think they got a little further with the PC port, I'd rather see that.

Yeah lol, I know...theres some other stuff too, I read over at soniccult one of the guys who worked on the game has it, and im guessing it's probably a demo type beta. I've also read they threw away the beta, etc, so technically the game does exist, just not in complete form. With the engine thing, they were originally using a version of the nights engine, then yuji told them no for some reason, so they pulled it and then had seperate people work on 2 different engines for the game and boss's, and then some sega dude in japan said WOW THAT ENGINE IS AWESOME USE IT FOR THE WHOLE GAME THEN LETS NEVER RELEASE IT LOLOLOLOL. My guess is that if there was a playable form of the green hillsey level (jade gully i think) it would be in one of the other non nights engine, but I dunno, probably could be the nights engine. I'm still fascinated about that damn game, I remember when saturn was still new and I was in like....2nd grade or something, and I remember reading about sonic xtreme in this magazine, and seeing this picture of sonic with metal spikes coming out of him....ahhhhhhh memories.

Oh both demo levels ran just fine on a stock Saturn.

Metal Sonic was a real bitch to beat though. ;)

Were you involved in the game or something? Any insight to contribute on top of what I've already printed here: http://www.lostlevels.org/200403/200403-xtreme.shtml ?
