I was never a big fan of Halo. So when a friend tried to sell me on Destiny by saying it was like Halo mixed with Borderlands, I wasn't interested. I liked Borderlands and the sequel. But they did take alot of time. I'm not sure I want to put that much time into one game right now. And Destiny doesn't have the charm of Borderlands like SonicSean said. I was willing to play Borderlands like crazy because it was appealing. I've never found Halo very appealing, nor Destiny. Even when the hype machine was going on around E3 and some friends were hyped about it, I couldn't have cared less.

So I agree, Destiny definitely seems extremely over hyped. But I'm not surprised.

So it's safe to say that Halo 1 is still Bungie's best game? :)

Ever since Halo 2, it's been all about the online multiplayer experience.. everything else sits in the backseat.

I liked all the Bungie Halo games (haven't played 4, and now I'm just going to wait for the Xbox One version, because why not).

Forza Horizon 2 is the anti-Destiny: practically no hype, review embargo lifted like a week before release, and it's a great game with tons of content.

Quite an accurate summary of Halo 4 PvP. Thing is, Halo 4 PvP was completely different to any previous Halo PvP. There used to be a huge disctinction between CoD PvP (and all its imitators) and Halo PvP. Then 343i tried to CoDify Halo (which they fucked up anyway) and completely lost the distinctions that used to make Halo PvP stand out. So we ended up with a non-Halo Halo PvP that couldn't even imitate well. Frankly if you're using Halo 4 PvP as a basis to gauge other games...well you couldn't have started off from a worse (big franchise) basepoint if you tried. Halo 4 PvP tanked for a reason.

7Force - keep going buddy, I'm enjoying the laughs. Mentioning 'Halo 4' and 'balancing' in the same post, even in unrelated points, is too much. If Halo 4 was London, balance would be the Antipodes Islands.

I do agree that Destiny needs some PvP balance, not as much as the interweb makes out though. It has the ease of entry - or brutality if you choose - for the manual needing pant pissers, but if you play to improve you can become beast with pretty much any weapon. Perhaps that's too much to expect from today's dumbed-down crowd. Sad if it is.

I try to avoid reviews because it's just one persons opinion, like with Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City the reviews said it was a POS but I had a blast playing it, thought it was a pretty decent game.

Extremely well said! Halo 4 is the worst one of the series for the exact reasons you mentioned. Halo 1 - 3 + Reach had fun multiplayer because it was something where skills actually would determine the outcome of the match, most the time. Halo 4 has too many variables & tons of weapons that are actually effective (which sounds desirable, but in the end just makes everything a big cluster fuck.)
Also the best fact... Halo 4 has the worst default selection of maps out of every Halo. The fact they made talking to the enemy players basically impossible just killed it, too. Halo 2 & 3, everybody had a mic in (for good or bad), & things were fun.
Halo 1 is my favorite, personally, followed by Reach.
I wouldn't mind trying Destiny out, but have no interest in actually pursuing such a reality.

Another Reach fan, yay. I could see how the armour abilities alienated some of the more traditional Halo crowd, but in many gametypes I really felt they complemented the action. Love Reach, 1/2 way to Inheritor on a second account!

    Anyway, back to on topic.

Destiny, very overhyped sure. What do you expect though. Bungie, Activision, Sony, that's a huge hype machine. But I simply cannot agree with turd given I've thoroughly enjoyed the 130 hours + I've played so far.

Will be interesting to see how the possible official Bungie reveal on the development issues pans out though, as well as how they handle the quite serious concerns about the DLC content.

Thanks for your perfect description of Destiny's worthless garbage PVP.

I never said Halo 4 was well balanced, but compared to Destiny it's Halo fucking 2.

What it needs is a complete overhaul, Bungie lied about making it balanced while at the same time allowing people to use perks gained through leveling (inherent unbalance) and to top it off it has, what, three or so game modes? There's no reason to play it right now, which means there's no reason to play the game unless you have some kind of fetish for shooting bullet sponge enemies in the same damn missions over and over and over and over...

edit: Oh yeah, and the loot system in this game is pure shit too. You have better luck getting random item drops from PVP than you do in the actual missions.

Halo 1, 2, and 3 are a different league to Halo 4 unfortunately. (although I did enjoy 4).

Destiny has been fun so far but I agree it is ridiculously over hyped. I'm pretty much bored of it now, the loot system is SO broken it's not even funny anymore.

I guess I just got lucky with loot then. Got a couple of nice items from drops (at a crap ratio sure, but do you expect a legendary item with every drop???), bought some nice items with Vanguard and Crucible marks, got some items as Raid rewards.

Granted, armour looting is completely pointless with the present level 30 cap once you have Raid armour with its 30 light capacity and higher defence stats (exotic equivalent). (Current non-Raid armour can only take you to level 29, even when maxed out.)

You do all know there are lots of ways to get loot and materials though, aside from campaign, general patrolling etc? Public events, daily heroic campaign, weekly heroic strike, nightfall strike, raid, PvP rewards, strike playlist rewards, as well as by spending Vanguard and Crucible marks you earn for completing many of the previously listed activities?

None of the previews got me really excited about Destiny, I've enjoyed some of the Halo games, but I always thought these games while nice visually and action packed lacked a bit of depth in terms of story telling. It feels all stitched up loosely. I'm a sucker for good story telling so maybe that's me. I guess for Bungie after splitting from Microsoft their needed their new title to perform strongly. I guess goal reached. Success without MS, almost.

    Hi,

I've absolutely had it with this game. I played the Alpha/Beta, I thought this game was supposed to be something it simply is not. I'm very disappointed at the length of the campaign. Furthermore, the fact the story didn't really make sense to me. It just wasn't explained enough.... The fact Bungie claimed "Destiny starts at Level 20". No, that's when it ends. You're left to do the same campaign missions over and over again. Did they really think people would sit there playing the same crappy campaign missions constantly? It literally drives me insane. The game offers very little content for a game which is claimed to have been in development for such a long time. It's like a huge slap in the face, half the trailers showed areas which were not even in the game. They're becoming DLC so it's kind of like false advertising if you ask me.

Loot system is also trashy. I got to the point where I was stuck at level 22. I spent time completing very/hard difficulty missions which were beyond my current level at the time... I'd sit there killing a boss for nearly an hour to be given NO gear at all to level up. The Crucible balance is messy, too many guns are being abused like 1 Hit kill guns etc. It's almost as if you don't even need Armour since certain guns can penetrate directly through it and kill you with one close range shot. Campers? I won't even bother with explaining those people.

Another thing that pisses me off is that they expect you to have your own friends to form a firearm team for certain missions. It's like the vault of glass is completely unplayable. I have no friends on this game yet. How are you supposed to make friends when all you can do is run around pointing, sitting down and dancing? They should include matchmaking for every mission or make it OPTIONAL. I feel like I cannot do certain missions because I have nobody to invite. They're so dumb, they may as well have just blocked certain missions if you don't have a sufficient amount of players. I recall having to secure 3 parts of the map a few days back on the Vault of Glass mission and you can't since as soon as you leave the enemy takes hold of it. What's the point? You obviously need 3 players at least to defend the 3 areas.

I believe people have gone as far as glitching into the DLC areas. I can confirm this is possible by following those videos on YouTube because I decided to do it myself today since I was bored (there is nothing to do). I'm very disappointed the game got boring after a week.

tldr; Let's put it this way, I need a new game...

    Regards.

I enjoyed Halo 1, 2, and 3. After that, I kinda lost interest in the series. I played ODST a little and I even owned Reach at one point, but they just seemed really boring to me. There wasn't anything very interesting or unique about them. I haven't played Halo 4.

You're exactly right, which reminds me...

I remember reading a developer interview in a magazine just prior to Halo 3 releasing. The question was asked about bots and if they would be included, the response was basically, "The game is so deep and so multi-faceted there is no way we have the resources to implement bots that would be even close to human opponents, so no."

What an absolute joke of an answer. How any person could be so conceited and suck their own cock and minimize the contributions of every other developer in the genre that much in responding to one question is beyond me. Everyone recognizes the vast majority of buyers will buy Halo for multiplayer and a large portion don't even start the campaign.

So you're going to design a game that is primarily developed and marketed for competitive multiplayer but you're creation is just so fucking brilliant you can't even bother to add CPU-controlled competition? Can you imagine any sports game or fighting game that didn't have at least 1 mode with CPU opponents? And how did developers who founded and damn near perfected prior competitive FPS games with a fraction of the budget OR manpower (Q3A? UT?) pull it off?

I never saw the appeal to Destiny, my friends were playing it a lot. I had a go and didn't know what the fuck was going on. The game felt too open for me, and pretty boring.

Actually, that part is not a joke. AI for multi-player or single player multi-player (...) is a difficult thing to implement, especially of you want the AI to seem competent & not be a complete joke. Halo has a lot of variables, & forge (custom levels) makes it more difficult. Sure, other games do have bots, but they are either too much of a joke / too good to be taken seriously. If they somehow do work, you have to realize that just because a group of programmers can create a complete game like Halo, it doesn't mean they can program AI players that would do their game engine justice. Reading whoever you quoted does actually baffle me, as it is exactly what I have said, but better.

Porting existing materials to a different platform isn't difficult, just tedious as all hell. So I can't blame them for all their "excuses", but yes, it's extremely obvious why no Halo past 2 has been on the PC. Having these be console exclusive sells consoles, end of story. I was such a big Halo player, I literally know around 6 people buying an Xbox one just to play Halo 2 online again.
