Yeah and if you ignore them, then you still end up getting beat. Cause that is what happened to me (when I was a child, and I actually had common sense of not teasing others , just because I was bullied and teased and beat up every damn day for five fucking long years in hell/school). So your little pocket philosophy sucks. And what did the teachers do and say to all that ? they said "just ignore it". And that is why I would rather spend 3 months in jail for slapping my future son or daughters bully. Cause enough is fucking enough and that is something I mean and stand by. Since such a case happened with a mother in Denmark recently , where the bully had put dog shit in her sons school bag and other crazy stuff. She slapped the bully ONCE, and well she got a prison sentence of 3 months for "violence". But I know violence solves absolutely and I repeat ABSOLUTELY nothing at all. But I can understand her action . So back to my statement, your pocket philosophy sucks .
What really sucks is that a Western society based on freedom and tolerance still gives in in front of a small bunch of extremist sociopathic cavemen.
I made Muhammed look like an alien. from my deviantart page: http://hawanja.deviantart.com/art/The-Great-Prohpet-164696997 I also made a youtube video of me drawing this, with commentary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gooqrpNxeME Enjoy!
I didn't mean for that statement to be a personal attack on anyone. Fuck. I understand what you mean exactly, but I thought it was obvious that I was just pissing around and not actually directly linking this and that. We're poking fun at a group of people who believe differently than us. We think it's fucked up, they don't. They find it completely just. As long as we keep going "hey, lets fuck with the Muslims!" then there's going to be those that hate the west for being western, the same way that 'we' are hating the east for being eastern. It's little things like this that help fuel hatred. I just wish people would live their damn lives and stop pointing at everyone else just trying to blend-in with the trend. The fact that a facebook group for this shit exists is what is the most fucking ignorant. FB groups are the lowest form of comradery, requiring you to go "oh, lol" and click join. 98% of the people in that group haven't done shit, don't give a shit, and won't ever do shit. They just want to have that show up on their wall that it looks like they're doing some sort of humorous protest against something like they know anything about it. And then countries like Pakistan see that, and get angry. Because we're mocking their system and culture that has been the norm for XXXX years. EDIT: DAMNIT, I missed my 1337'th post. I think it was the previous one...
Well I for one did participate in Everybody Draw Mohammed Day on facebook,I did not do it to be cool I did it to stand for free speech. Also I enjoy studying religions, like the Koran and the Bible but of course like any other religion there not immune to criticism which Islam detest.
Good to hear. I like things with either purpose, or absolutely no purpose. However, I still don't think our views on other cultures and what 'we' do in protest or demonstration are really oing to make any difference in situations like these. It's more of a self-esteem booster for 'us'.
This might be a topic for another thread, but I read this article in NY Times the other day that was pretty cool: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/18/science/18tier.html?scp=5&sq=optimistic&st=cse One of the themes of one of the works covered was the main reason homo sapiens evolved (read: were the lucky ones) is not b/c of brain size or anything, but b/c we learned how to trade. [snip] In parting, the author mentions a quote that suggests various things are counter-productive for us as a species, but one is the notion that the US (or any country) should be self-sufficient. IE: self-sufficiency hinders progress. As a now multi-cultural person, whatever the fuck that means, I think the most crucial characterstic for us as inhabitants of the Earth to have is tolerance, and I simply do not see it in the conservative Muslim populations of the world. I see the lack of it in the west as well, but not by policy. How much ridiculous bullshit do middle eastern countries do that I find completely fucked up. Female circumcision? What the fuck? Afraid you can't get your bitch off so you make it impossible for anyone too? Birka? Self explanatory. Death penalty b/c a guy wants to stick his cock up another man's ass? Etc., etc. And now, the whole draw Muhammed thing is simply another. I'm a religious person, but I think separation of church & state is about the smartest thing the humans have ever come up with. </rant>
To all, I was not pissed at any of you guys. Sorry, I was not posting the reply to say I would go crazy on you at all. So I am sorry, if any one felt I was angry with that post. Cause this thread is about drawing Mohammed, and I actually like that support.
Understood, no harsh feelings. I'm all for free speech. Hell yes. It just seems like we're trying to outweigh their intolerance with more of our own.
I understand what your saying its just when someone criticizes islam for what ever reason death treats can be made, look what happened to Theo van Gogh,he spoke his mind and was violently murdered, also the South Park creators had death treats on revolutionmuslim.com,saying they could end up like Theo van Gogh. Free speech is a threat to Islam.
Simple really. It's better just to give in and say fuck you than to carry it on and have those nut cases fly another plane in to a populated area.
I'd rather die on my feet than kowtow to these primitives. All religion is just about control, more you shatter that illusion the better.
But that's just what they want, isn't it? I believe it's the wrong way to let us threaten by a small group of extremists who would actually DO something. All the others who like to burn flags (they must make a lot of money with American & Danish flags!) and don't seem to have any other pleasure in life than oppressing their wifes and hating others for their misery can be ignored, can't they? As far as it is reasonable of course. I don't think any other government has ever banned webpages because of religiously offensive content? What the fuck? Are we in the middle ages or what? I frankly don't see us in the position to act as submissive as Facebook did a couple of days ago. That's just weak. Dito... the 1st sentence reminds me of that one South Park episode in which it turns out that Earth is just one huge reality show in which they put all kinds of races together to film the inevitable wars & conflicts. To quote the Taco Alien: Well, you don't think the whole universe works the way Earth does, do you? No! One species, one planet! There's a planet of deer, a planet of Asians, and so on! We put them all together on Earth and the whole universe tunes in to watch the fun!
I grew up in a somewhat liberal Church setting. I'm from Texas, and am definitely a mama's boy even at the ripe old age of 35. She is a devout christian and has devoted her life to making the world a better place because of God, but not in the name of God if that makes sense. She lost a lot of funding b/c she wouldn't give in and put a cross in the logo of her charity. Her board who is made up of people from our church have even awarded their 'servant award' to an atheist. She's also made a habbit of pissing off a lot of people in churches b/c she doesn't bend her values. When most kids in Dallas were wearing 3 piece suits & learning about a blond haired blue eyed Jesus, my mom took me to the projects where she was teaching (that was age 12). That's the kind of upbringing I had, and I'm even more liberal than that. So people ask me what my religion is. Here in Japan, I just say christian as there really is no reason to further classify it as most people really don't care anyway. With a western audience, it's a far more complicated question. I'd like to think of myself as not straying too far from my upbringing, but I don't think a lot of Christians would classify me as such. I don't go to church, but I also don't think God really cares about that. I do enjoy altering my mind although I don't much anymore as a parent. I don't think God cares about that too much either. I'm a firm believer that anyone's lifestyle is their own business and they shouldn't be persecuted for it, and I also think that defining marriage as between a man and a woman is a clear defiance of separation of Church & State. If biology is any type of reflection of creation, then maybe the whole gay thing is isn't in God's greater plan. However, as a mama's boy, I will always go back to what she has told me time and time again: God's love is equal, as is sin. It's humans in organized religion form that came up with ranking system. Back to the issue at hand, a big problem with organized religion in general is that it does not teach tolerance despite the fact that, I think at least, it is the key to our survival as a species. We are on the brink of either destruction or the key to our longer term survival. There is an incomprehensible amount of space that we may one day be able to occupy, but we have so much shit here on Earth to sort out before that to even consider leaving seems like a sick joke. Sorry that got a little out of hand. Michio Kaku has a pretty interesting opinion on terrorism, and states that he sees it as a major obstacle in the human species graduating from a Type 0 to Type 1 civilization.
