+3 for the bios please.... cheesy no?

Also on a side note... reproducing the system disc "barcode" only one practical way comes to mind. Disc Pressing. or some sort of embosing of the aluminium / reflective metal layer.

    Thanks,
    Xeveniah Darkwind

i just realised that this thread should be moved to the Dreamcast Area, since this Area is for older Sega Systems.
Maybe discussion will be faster then ;)

Any chance this new bios would be flashable from CD like the Region changer? Or have I got the wrong idea here?

So wait, in order to get the really awesome boot sequence from the Devkit , I have to do some modding on my dreamcast? Is there no other way?

If you want to keep your precious system pristine, just get a bare console for next to nothing and do the mod on that

Ok i misunderstood his post then. I thought he meant that he found a way to overwrite the original bios.

Can someone point me in the direction of the needed chips? I already have a Dreamcast motherboard without a Bios chip :)

No, he have a MX-IC (Macronix) 2MB flash piggybacked to the original ROM.\

He then boots the DC from the original ROM and swaps the chips around with a /CE (chip enable) switch. Once the MXIC flash is flashed with the DC bios (done through a plugin on the same DC homebrewn software which read SD cards through the serial port) you can use the modified/flashed bios while you keep the original bootROM as backup/safety.

So, in the end, the original bios is not flashable but the Russian hackers figured out how to add flashable bios capability to the system.

Just to clarify this sentence for the non-native english speakers that might not get it:

To flash the new bios chip you simple boot from original bios, load the DreamShell software to flash the bios, flip the switch, wait for the writing to be done then reboot on new BIOS! The DC becomes the programmer (although the chip is not rom in this case)

Haha thank you for that :D Does anyone here sell the chips? I would prefer one already flashed as i have a Motherboard without bios already :)

EDIT: Will these bioses work with burned discs? I'm not into pirated games but i find early prototypes/betas very fascinating and afaik games like Wind And Water are on CD-R's too, right?
