Some Dreamcast require the removal of some capacitors under the motherboard in order to work with teh sd-card adaptor. My DC was like this. Removing them made it works perfect. Even if the adapter is external you seems to need to dismantle it and remove the caps for the adapter to work. FG
What model do you have FamilyGuy? Mine is a model 2 from febuary 2000. It worked fine with no problems.
I offered to sell these, but apparently people didn't think it would sell since it's use is so limited.
Can you provide a link? Yeah, that was me, and I was completely wrong by the look of it. One went for £30 on ebay, no idea why anyone would pay that price :x
My modded dreamcast is a model 1. JJ1ODM told me the capacitors was a random problem and that it is probably a capacitors batch problem. You've got to remove the C605, C606, C607, C608 and C609 capacitors, here's the official source: http://f17.aaa.livedoor.jp/~takotako/dcserial_ft232bm.php#pio Good luck with this!! FG
I was about to post this. Seems there pretty widespread in China. I bought a cheap SD card reader (Signalex brand) and it has that.
Swat also mentioned that by removing some capacitors, you can increase the access rate of the serial port. This might be a good idea for me, becuase the 32gb card I have is having problem with homebrews, primarily the updated SD card versions of Snes4all, Uae4all & Dcastaway. However, I have created an sdiso of a Neo4all rc3 and that workd fine on my 32gb card. I should also mention that I have played thes emulators perfectly fine on my 2gb sd card. Could the larger card be taking too long for Dreamshell to read or something? Here is an example of an error I get with the sdiso's of the emulators on my bigger card.
I, um... oops. I did write back then in your interest thread saying I was wrong, btw. Given the terrible engineering (if you can even call it that) and lack of success I'm having with mine I'm doubly confused at the demand, but the Dreamcast does inspire some peculiar fandom.
Yeah, I guess there is nothing quite like a Dreamcast fan, we take what we can get and are happy with it you know what I mean? While it is no true GDR replacement, it does one hell of a job as acting like a homebrew channel.
You should try getting the people in China to find a way to produce actually GDR assemblies (A brotha can dream)
Smidge offtopic: Is it me or does Dreamshell's console (CLI) seem to slide about a full line height of text offscreen on the bottom? Overscan problem with composite? Seems to do it on my CRT based TVs and my LCD screen which has 0 overscan unless the input device is forcibly cutting off the picture.
Yeah, I have this problem on coaxial cables. And that is on a Sony Bravia 40 inch. I know, I really need to get a VGA box next. I think with VGA it should be more proportionate, and Dreamshell should get an update sometime soon that I would hope would fix this for folks with older wires.
I'm using composite myself, doesn't seem like its a problem with the display or the cables themselves. Might just be my imagination and the last line of text on screen is the "active" line of text.
Yeah, same here. I've had a word with the proxy service and they say they're happy to send it back to the seller... if I pay for postage both ways. Which will cost more than the device itself. So that's helpful. Honestly given how limited the device apparently is I'll probably just chalk this one down to experience and move on.
I'm sorry to hear that it doesn't work but I'm not surprised the proxies won't pay a dime for the return. If proxies actually did their job the way they are supposed to, the overhead would make it so un-affordable to run. Usually when I deal, I ask for discounts, spare parts (to avoid returns), questions about the products, and usually try to make longer lasting relationships in case I need more from them in the future. It puts a lot less risk on you, but it also takes a lot more of your time up. But it's 100% better than taking a crap shoot with a proxy or unknown seller. At least there are places like Dealextreme. They won't have everything, but at least for the stuff they do have, it's more reliable and consistent than a Proxy.
Agree on all points. I can't hold it against them that they won't cover shipping or replace the item itself. It's just frustrating is all. And yeah, if Dealxtreme stocked the thing I'd have bought from there to begin with. I've had one item come DoA from them recently and they're replacing it with minimal fuss (needed photographic proof but that was all).
