Is there any way to make this on your own? Where are they getting the Dreamcast serial port adapters at? Has the code been released yet?
I have a friend from China that told me they sell these at every convenience store on every corner, the guy making these must have bought quite a bit of them and added some serial adapter plugins from some place and just soldered the contacts to the usb board. Works like a charm just as advertised. I couldn't be happier, and it looks more professional than something with a long cord coming out of it. I know the internal ones are less obtrusive looking, but I like this in the port on the back, looks like it was meant to be there from the beginning. Anyway, the video I made of these things back in October has gotten over 7,000 views, and it must have been great free advertisement for this guy, as he keeps pumping them out by the truckload. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40bCn2z7t5o I hope I have made as many folks aware of these things as possible, and while it is definitely not a GDR replacement atm, it is nice having emulators that utilize them. :mario: Everything you need to know to build your own Dreamcast SD card reader to boot games and homebrew from the Dreamshell Operation System can be found here.. This is the go-to page for the Dreamcast SD card interface mod. I translated it with Google toolbar. http://translate.googleusercontent....usg=ALkJrhhFOz9gTEm3XxdAYeT42kaXq56Tvw#sdcard Some things you\'ll need: A resistor 470. A capacitor 47 uf. A capacitor 0.1 uf. An LED (not mandatory). An SD Card port. I'll assume you know how to do advanced things like soldering and modding, so I'll leave you to your own devices. You should be able to get one built with all the info on that page, if not, you might want to swing by the DC-SWAT Dreamshell forums and speak with the creator of Dreamshell, mister SWAT himself for a few pointers. http://www.dc-swat.ru/forum/forum-29.html
Yeah, thats why I would rather go through the hassle of waiting 2 months for a professionally looking one. Besides, it looks awesome in the DC's back side.
Yeah I would buy one, but I hate waiting 2+ months for it to be delivered. Maybe someone can buy in bulk and resell here. Either way I'd have to wait 2 months for HIM to get them then another week for him to send it to me. Sigh.
Yeah, trust me, it is worth doing it yourself man, you wait for something that could or could not be happening, and that could be indefinably.
So you're saying just soldering one of the serial port adapters he has onto an SD reader like the original device you have was, it would work? We need to find out where he's getting them then. http://mc.pp.se/dc/serifc.html http://www.consolesandgadgets.com/c...p-191.html?consolesandgadgets=DC_Coders_Cable Out of stock... http://cgi.ebay.com/SNK-Neo-Geo-Poc...t=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item2c5bb293c5 Yawn.
are these any different than if i make my own? bc i could probably just make my own internal sd adapter in about 2 hours or so at about the same price(radioshack is a ripoff)
@Nully, Well, when I said "it is worth doing it yourself", I meant it is best if you order them from taobao first. These serial adapters he is cannibalizing are UBER hard to come by. They don't make them nowadays, and your better off just buying this in the end. Mine is perfect, and works in every way advertised, plus it works with my 32gb sdhc card, so it is like having a small hard drive on it. Nope same thing. P.S., man I am seeing a bunch of us Texans here lately. Where by you hail from?
alright cool. i think i can salvage the caps i need and an sd reader from one of my old pc's. the setups the same even if im not gonna put an activity led in rite? if u mean where do i live i live in houston (old english is not my strong points and i hate shakespeare for ever writing his plays in it )
Correct. the activity light is just an option. Hehe, the only "real" Old Enlglish I ever got acquainted with is of the 40 ounce persuasion. @Nully, Good to hear, I know how to install PC components and the like, and I have small hands, but I haven't really tried soldering too many things, and this is beyond my technical abilities. If you are in doubt, then it is best to go the pre-manufactured route.
Just bought one from the ebay link posted earlier, worked out at £16.65 GBP including shipping. Let's see how long this takes to get here.
He can't be pulling apart a link cable for each one of these. So anyway, I finally got around to trying out mine, and I get "DS_ERROR_FM can't open directory /sd". The SD adapter itself is showing no LEDs, is this right? It's the same purple one that other people have got from the taobao guy.
Ordered mine from china, took about one month to get it. I thought it was mass produced so was a bit surprised to see a homemade adapter with hotglue and everything inside. If I knew it was homemade I would probably hack together my own version, who knows what six year old kid in a sweatshop hack together these?
there may b something wrong with it. usually it lights up when u put it in the dreamcast. it could be the actual sd card as well tho
