    Hey folks!

Just wondering how the Dreamcast Soul Calibur stands the time against it´s direct sequel for PS2 (released 3 year after). Do you think the technoligical gap between both games is too big? or average for a sequel running on systems with sort of similar power?

And besides, do you think that Dreamcast has enough power to handle SC 2 with the same graphic engine of the PS2/GCN/Xbox Game (may be with downgrades).

If Memory serves correct SC II ran in 720p on the XBOX. I doubt the Dreamcast would have gotten that version. I think it may have, SC II wasn't that much of a leap graphically from SC.

The Real question is who would be the DC guest character?

Personally I found the GameCube Sc2 to be the best quality sound and vision wise.
The dreamcast "original" was great though, such a shame the system died out

I found the most impressive Xbox SC 2 version ...was HD (720p) compatible (almost 10 year before Soul Calibur II HD Online)...and visually is the cleanest SC 2of that time (better AA than GC and specially PS2).

The Xbox version was indeed impressive.

The GC version is cool because it has Link, though.

Given that Sega worked on the Triforce board with Namco (like Nintendo, which is why they got Link in SCII), my guess would be either a VF character (Akira or Dural would be most likely) or a character with a weapon, like Shinobi (likely Hotsuma, since the Shinobi remake came out in 2002). Or they could just be like "fuck it" and put in Sonic.

I think the Xbox version looked the best, and had the second best guest character (Spawn was awesome and fitting for the black and neon green box), but the GC version was worth it just to have Link. Did anyone buy the PS2 version?

Probably only millions of people. Seriously why would you think or imply that no one bought the PS2 version when the PS2 was the most popular system of that generation? I personally imported the GameCube version before it was released in the US because I did not own a PS2 at the time and because the GameCube had the "FreeLoader" disc to easily load import games. But I also have the PS2 version now.

Plus I love using the GCN controller.

I don't care if Link is apparently the worst character; he's a shitload of fun to play as and IMO he's the least unfitting guest character of SCII.

Link makes the GCN version unique at this point. SC II HD Online Includes Spawn and Heihachi already. The only way to play with Link in Soul Calibur is still with a GCN or Wii (or Dolphin, but this one is suppossed to be illegal). But what do you think? Can DC handle SC 2 with it´s original engine? i say yes...Too bad never happened. May be someday scene will have tools to mod retail games...so may be we can enjoy SC 2 on DC tru a mod of the original SC or DOA 2, or something like that. Perphaps someboy in Assembler knows something :(

Someone on either this forum or DC Talk has been modding DOA 2 pretty extensively, whoever he's with might be able to put SC 2 characters in it.

Fun fact, in US the GC version outsold the PS2 version.
The Xbox version was the less successful one.

    Source NPD.

Just so I don't have to make a new thread. Which Soul Calibur is everyone's Favorite?

I play 2 a lot even now but for a good 2 years I was playing the hell out of IV. V got play time to but the game was shipped unfinished. 3 I own but I'm not nuts about, It does have the best create a soul and it looks and plays fine and the three new characters were good but eh....... something feels off. First one is a classic but it lacks the multiple weapons. Soul Edge/Blade still plays well and might have the best soundtrack of the bunch.

I'd say of the ones I've played (all but III (I was an Xbox person in the sixth gen)), I'd go 2, 1, 4 (the 360 got shafted on Star Wars characters), then 5.

II is the best, V is easily the worst if the pay-to-win (hey, Namco said it themselves) game doesn't count.

The Xbox version HAS to be impressive since that console was practically an actual PC.
GC requires respect, considering that small console produced a damn fine version of Soul Calibur.

I would imagine the Dreamcast version to be between the PS2 and GC, though with downgrades in some areas.
