Wasn't Soul Calibur 2 initially intended for the Gamecube/ Triforce?

I could remember when it was announced that Soul Calibur 2 was being developed for ps2 based hardware, many fans were mad that it wasn't being developed on Gamecube or Xbox based hardware.

I could have sworn that years ago I heard Soul Calibur 2 was originally going to be a Gamecube exclusive.

Blame typical 90's / 00's "journalism" for those bogus rumors.

Y'know, I do think I remember reading something like that in Nintendo Power way back when I was but a wee lad. I wish I could dive through my old NPs to see if I'm right, but I'm thinking either the writers were just blowing smoke up our collective asses or it was a poorly phrased way of conveying that Link was a Gamecube exclusive.

It's possible they were working on a deal that would have released the home version exclusively on the GC - but I suspect that would have been an expensive deal for Nintendo, especially since the PS2 had a large installed base at that point, and porting a System 246 based arcade game to the PS2 would require very little work - so not producing a PS2 version would effectively have been leaving a lot of money on the table.

Do you know somewhere else to find sales figures for games? It's not something I look for generally.

Unfortunately it's the best I've found, and it might just be made up numbers. Plus I don't think it even includes digital.
