Hi!, I would like to order a Hanzo + scanliner cable

I'm just a bit confused (sorry if I didn't read the 39 pages of this thread

I would like to have scanlines on my DC and I already have a VGA Box : to get the best possible result, do I need a Hanzo + scanliner cable or a scanliner ?

Hanzo has a built in scanline generator. You don't need a scanliner cable if you just want to use it with your DC.

However, if you are content with your current VGA box, you can just buy a Scanliner which is a standalone scanline generator.

Or you can sell your current VGA box and experience the Hanzo.

It has one extra feature, if you order a separate Scanliner cable (for $5), Hanzo can be used with other consoles/PC too...

Scanliner is $40, Hanzo is $60 including shipping...

If I'm not mistaken, those do not upscale the picture, so basically, I guess they are especially useful for 240p games ?

As the scanlines are optional, is the tiny additional lag only visible when scanlines are enabled ? (I mean : is there no frame delay when scanlines are disabled ?)

yeah better for shmups and fighting games @240p.
no frame delay.... on the fly...

I'm interested in a Hanzo box to hookup a Nintendo 64, primarily. I was just wondering if anyone has actually done this yet and how the results were on the big screen. Also, beharius, I know that you have said that you are considering making boxes for this purpose at some point. Are you still planning this product? Thanks for any info!

No. You need an s-video/composite to VGA convertor. If your N64 has been RGB modded then I think you'd need something like the XRGB3.

So I recently ordered a Hanzo and I was going to Staples to pick up a male to male vga cable. They had 2 versions. 1) max resolution of 640x480 and 2)supports resolutions 800x600 and greater. Which one do I need? I plan on hooking my DC up to either my TV (32 inch 720p samsung) or my computer monitor (max resolution 1600x900). I know DC only supports 480p, so does it matter which cable i buy? I'm a little confused. I didn't realize there are different quality vga cables....?

 

Don't buy a long cable, just a good quality "fully wired" and well shielded is OK, so you can use it elsewhere with peace of mind. Sometimes thick cables can have thinner bad quality wires and thicker plastic around, or opposite of it, thin cable with thicker wires. The thing is it can't be understood from outside or from packaging. It's all try and see...
They recommend the ones from Monoprice usually.

 

I don't know why resolution is stated for a VGA cable. Resolution support is up to the the monitor and output device, the cable just transfers the signal at any resolution. A lot of monitors include a VGA cable in the box that usually isn't used because DVI/HDMI are more popular now, I've never had to buy a short VGA cable.
