I'm game for anything but youtube. I just hang out there when I'm bored, have a few friends... and it's pretty painless t upload there than look elsewhere. Also, I just realized I think one of the audio tracks isn't sync'd. Hmm. If that's the case, I have no idea how it happened. Hopefully I didn't delete the side cam raw file like I think I might have... I may drop it in Vimeo or whatever I figure out as a replacement, at which point it will be fixed.
So. Last night, my head unit stopped working. The CD wouldn't eject, and the tape wouldn't play (well, cassette adapter). I messed around with it, and then it decided to not even say that there was a CD inserted at all (the CD-in LED went out). I had to go buy two more pairs of DIN removal tools (as I couldn't find my old ones...). 9 bucks, gah! Removed the radio, started stripping it down. Removed the CD player unit (it's semi-modular... OEM Mazda unit) and the tape unit (that I added myself). Upon doing the former, I noticed there was a little bit of moisture between the radio and the CD cages. WTF? I inserted the radio again, without either unit and it worked fine (forgot to mention that the AM/FM worked fine, however it was cutting in and out really fast and was unlistenable). Added the tape player, and that worked fine. So, it was the CD player! So. Stripped the entire thing down to the boards. Made sure there wasn't any more moisture. Inside the CD player, the main ribbon cable that connects the drive assembly to another board (the board being the one with the connector in it that connects to the main radio unit) had a scorch mark on the contacts and the connector had the same. BLAST! Water damage. Cleaned the two the best I could, put it all back together (after removing the stuck cd and resetting the drive mechanisms to the 'empty' state) and... It works fine now. So. How the hell did that little bit of water get in there? Huh? It has certainly been cold lately. I can understand frozen shit, that thaws and is liquid... but... hmm? A while back, I had some hail hit my car (if you look at the side-view mirror shots in my last video, you can see the plastic trim along the window is cracked, and there's a few noticeable dents near the handle) and had to get a new windshield. I wonder if: 1. The new windshield isn't sealing properly (doubt it, but who knows) or 2. it got a little wet in there when the hail hit (the windshield was certainly very much destroyed, but fully in tact...). So. That was my night last night. Good shit, I'm quite satisfied with myself. Thought I would have to get a new head unit (maybe $40 used on eBay) which would mean well over a week without any music in the car. Hoorah.
that will prove to be difficult! Although I did stab my brakes a bit hard yesterday coming off the highway... some idiot was trying to drive UP the OFF-RAMP. I had a pretty sweet drift going for about 30 feet. "OH Fu... oh shit... well... hmm... alright!!" *holds slide*
Take it how you want to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3vCxJqK4uM I dreamed that I was in a field, strong and made of steel.
New video taken today around the Mountain area of Yamaguchi Ken in Honshu. Total running time is 8:17. http://www.segagagadomain.com/drive-yamamount.htm Yakumo
Hooray! That one was certainly squirrely. I can think of maybe... three short stretches of road in this city that have that style of one-lane+turns. Then again generally the only turns here are 90 degrees... Hah! In other news, my car was broken into the other day. Your standard smash-and-grab. I lost my DSLR and two prime lenses, as well as the bag it was in (and the flask I kept in the front pouch for special occasions ). It was on the front passenger floor, long with a coat and a shirt and a couple of Powerade bottles and other miscelaneous crap. It just looked like a messy car, not like I was trying to hide anything. at least two or three other cars near me also had busted windows. I wonder if they lost anything. Here's the funny part. Sitting in the center console was my 30GB Zune, and a Canon SD1000. Aparently they literally just reached through the window and then got the fuck out of there. This all happened between 10:30 and 11:30 at night, in a very very well lit parking lot. It was snowing (so I had plenty of that in my car by the time I got to it). So. Total losses (ebay prices): Konica Minolta 5D - $200-250 50mm 1.7 - $75-100 28mm 2.8 - $75-100 Nice Tamrac bag - $25 Passenger window: $138 installed I like thinking about it as "someone stole $600 from me, then tossed a quarter of it out the window out of spite." Needless to say it was very very cold driving across town back home that night. That's actually in the McDonald's drive-through as I needed a huge ammount of terrible food to make me feel better. I think I found the serial number for the body, and added that to the police report... then pawn shops and such call up things people try to sell and check it against the database. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. *checks eBay quickly*
Oh man, that's really shitty about your car. I'm so happy we don't have to deal with that sort of shit in Japan. I hope the little sods get caught and made to pay for repairs to your car plus extra. The serial number for the car body should be on a metallic sticker on the driver's door panel along with the colour code and tire pressure. Yakumo PS: Nothing wrong with a bit of Mc D's every now and then. On the other hand I don't know what the US Mc is like. I know in the UK I hardly ever ate there. Normally young dumb scum as far as the eye could see in the city center ones.
Sorry, I meant serial number for the camera, so that if someone tries to sell it at a shop, the shop is legally required to check the serial number against a database. And if it's marked stolen, they call the police and try and keep the guy there. I work at a camera store, and someone tried to sell us a Canon 1D MkIII (about $3k, an older model) with a big L-series telephoto lens (don't remember the focal length, was going for about $6k). It was stolen, as we found out. Gather 'round, here's a good story (probably). Guy comes in, asks my coworker whether we buy cameras. "Yes, of course it depends on what you have. Is it film or digital?" "Both." "It can't be both. Well, it can... but no, it's one or the other." Then he goes to his Cadillac Escalade parked right out front and brings in the 9 thousand dollar camera outfit. No bag, just the camera, bare. So, a phonecall later, and of course... the camera's stolen. The police try and tell us to stall and keep him there, so they can show up and handle that situation. 10 minutes pass. No cops. 20 minutes. 30 minutes. The entire time, we're getting him a "price quote" off the computer. The owner is making small chat with him. Within that time we call the police another time or two, and they're "Too busy" and it will be a while. We've got the guy, right here! HE'S HERE STANDING IN THE OTHER ROOM! So the manager eventually gives up and lets the guy know that we know it is stolen, and that we have to hold on to the property and hand it to the police, and then we all can go from there. I finally leave, as we had been well closed by then. I guess the cops showed up about an hour after that to finally bust out the paper work. What the funk?
Sorry to hear that, but in Europe you can't leave ANYTHING in a car. Not even during a day. If you leave anything valuable in a car during a day it's gone in 5 minute no mater how crowded the street is. To the topic here is a video from my last year trip to NZ. The speed is about 100-130 km/h. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G69eY4aE7Ng
Yeah, I've heard no cases of cars being broken into here or anything stolen from them, but it seems like we have an overwhelming amount of bicycle theft roaming around this area. Does that go on where you're from? The first week I came here, two of my roommates got their bicycles stolen and someone took my friend's lock right out of his basket. This probably has to deal with being in the international area of Sendai, though.. Speaking of bicycles(sorry, it's my only driving pleasure while abroad), when biking back from class in this cold fucking weather, my seat broke off and I had to look like a dipshit picking up all the bolt remains. To make matters worse, I look over and see a lady in her car laughing her ass off.. Anyways, it was fun walking 40 minutes home..
Nah, we don't have that around here but I know in Oita it's a problem. The people of Oita blame the Chinese. Not too sure how true that is but they seem to blame everything on other Asians followed by blacks then Americans. You'll find that the biggest bike theft areas are always the ones with more foreign people. Now, that could be the Japanese being smart by steeling stuff where they know the foreigner will get the blame or the Chinese really are steeling them all. Was she driving a big gay car? Bet she was  You should have gave her the finger. I've done that a few times in the past when people cut me off on the road. It's so funny because they suddenly turn in to little kids throwing a tantrum driving right up the arse of your car as if it's meant to scare the shit out of you. Idiots. Yakumo
Word on the street is that someone took a dump in your tranny!?! (What a weird sentence out of context!) Hope you're tip-top ASAP. I guess it's better than hearing he went drifting and accidentally tossed it off a cliff!
Are you talking about the nob who wrecked me gearbox and clutch? I feel a little better today as the boss gave him a roasting for being such a prick and talking out of his arse. Yakumo
Yes. What actually happened with it? Mill your gears into cylinders? Get high smoking your clutch? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFHwzmzt8GE
hahaha, that guy in the video is a right tool. How hard can it bee to wheel spin a car . As for the idiot, well he has mashed the gearbox trying to force the car in to gear without using the clutch by the looks of it. Also Subaru said that the clutch is well worn so it also looks like the soft shit has had problems balancing between the accelerator and the clutch. Put it one way, it's the last time I EVER offer my car to help someone out. Yakumo
