When I used Heimdal's disc and memory unit with the Splinter Cell exploit, I simply put the exploit on which is in effect soft modding it, then I flashed the Tsop, removed the exploit with the same disc, threw in a bigger Hdd and with the same disc formatted and set it up, it was easy and took no time at all.
That's pretty much what I do. My method uses a bit of FTP for the flasher tool and BIOS in there but the rest of my process is the same. Stupid simple and easy to do. Very hard to mess that up.
Now what we really need to do, if possible. Is get a softmod working with a flashed Tsop, so we get the softmod only benefits with the bios replacement benifits. bios replacement benifits. removal of boot animation & logos. (Faster boot up) Booting of media when borked HDD pressent. easly upgrade HDD, stick it in & go. Prob more but softmods do the main stuff the same. softmod benifits. easy to install, just need a game & a way of getting the save on the memcard/USB. shadow partitions (so noobs don't break stuff) ios mounting, yes you read that right. Basically a DVD drive emulator, built right into the softmod. (Latest NKPatcher) Could be more stuff, that a bios doesn't do but can't remember, I just want the latter on a Tsop Toca 3 has file names to long for fatx ;-) smart buggers, so virtual drive was the only way to play it without the disc. Now I assume NKPatcher is just a BFM type thing ah ok, it seems someone made an ACL patch for DVD2Xbox for Toca 3 (5 years later oO) if only they done that when it came out. Well I wouldn't have found out about the virtual drive if they had. Well that kinda makes the latter a bit useless lol, would still be nice though if both worked together, would mean the ultimate mod!
I play it from my hdd, I copied it using DVD2Xbox and the ACL file that reconstructs the filenames that you talked about. You are right it took a long time to work around this, makes me wonder why other game developers didn't use the same trick.
A few games have long file names and get issues from transfers, was a annoying for a while. UnleashX has built in xbe patching too, doesn't always delete the backups though I believe many who softmod don't select ShadowC. Sounds like we must create a new softmod package, and possibly a better FATX transfer tool for Windows too...
Been faffing about with BFM bios's today & got retail ones to boot (after a few hours of it not working, Lock your HDD :-/) anyways we cant patch ie, NKPatcher a BFM bios :-( just hangs on a black screen. So only way is to change the NKPatcher source. (free) I did have a look & tried to change a few things, but Its way over my head & it dint work lol On a side note, I never thought of loading BFM bios to test other bios's, so now I flashed the Tsop with IND-BIOS 5003.67 & can test the buggy (from what people have said) Beta 5004 without it arsing my xbox.
