However, a negative for a buyer does nothing. Unless you have tons and tons and even then if you win and pay with paypal the seller will never turn you away.

    I think its BS.

Chargebacks need to have negatives placed as a proper warning.

I too think its stupid, in some respects it may work out well, like ive got a problem with a seller for a gearbox on eBay who has since messaged me saying sorry its sold, though he was more than happy to sell it to me for more.

Basically i got a good buy, so he didn't want to sell it to me.

Although this happened a few weeks back, does this now mean i can leave him negative and he can't ruin my feedback? I didn't dare leave feedback as i know he would have gave me negative aswell.

Oh and i'm in the UK if how eBay works is any different over here.

    Cheers.

Unless that buyer ever wants to sell anything, of course. Personally, these days I'm mostly a buyer but I occasionally sell as well, so I by no means feel free to accumulate negatives. I'm in a sort of middle range where my feedback is low enough that I can't shrug off a negative with impunity, but high enough that starting a new account would be a loss.

Are chargebacks really that common of a problem though? If so, I think I'd have to agree with your point of view on this. It's something I never thought of.

A little off the no negative topic which I also agree is stupid, I now have 99.6% feedback even though i`ve never had a negative, I have had one neutral in the last 5 years and that was this twat saying my blank GD-R wasn`t genuine! Since when did neutral feedback change your score :-(

Well, unless you use www.ToolHaus.org... :) That site will crawl through all of your feedback and show all Neg, Neutral and removed feedback (basically everything that is not a positive). Wonderful tool!

Instead of leaving negs for buyers, you file non-paying bidder reports (assuming that's why you would have left a neg), and I believe there's settings now for sellers that can block people that have had non-paying bidder claims filed against them... I guess it could work out... We'll have to see.

And I guess as of Feb 2008:

"Neutrals have a weight of two-thirds of a negative weight."

Didn't know that myself... Ticks me off as I got a neutral recently (deserved, I admit it, but the buyer could have given me a chance to make it right instead of just leaving the neutral...) So what would have been 100% under the new system is now stuck at 99.7ish for the next year if I don't screw anything up....

And low 'Detailed Seller Ratings' will also affect your overall percentage.

All of this would be far more reasonable if sellers and buyers could file slightly more detailed reports and also you were FORCED to leave some form of feedback!

I'm sick to death of people who either don't leave feedback or don't bother with the Detailed Seller Ratings.

It's all so hap-hazard and pish at the moment that frankly who can believe anything in the 'feedback' stakes. In the past you had to negotiate with sellers and buyers, despite the trade going wrong or issues 'Don't leave me negative and I won't leave you negative'. Now what? The buyer rules (again) like you were a shop! 'Negative feedback! This item arrived with a scratch on it, the damage ruined my life, I have had to cancel my annual holiday and my children have left home all because this second-hand item was NOT in as immaculate condition as I expected my £1.00 warranted! I will never buy another toothbrush and if I see this seller I will slay him' I expect the 'negative' feedback to go through the roof, because you now know they can't touch you! Watch the niggling gits whine like dogs in the midday sun over the merest mute point.

We've all had people take the piss, go into a hissy fit because (as Kev says) people think you are Sears and not some random person auctioning something that states clearly that the item is not new in box etc.

All this because some woman wanted to trade stupid kids toys!

My point is that the system worked. Sure it wasn't perfect but it worked. Hell the eBay from 1999 worked just fine but they keep trying to screw with things.

If I was in charge over at Ebay I'd just lay off all these guys standing around doing nothing instead of having them create fixes to problems that don't exist.

I must admit, I do like the BIN feature they added but everything else seems like 1 step forward 2 steps back.

Agreed! eBay was fun 2 or 3 years back.

It has become the best source of scam in the World

Buy an item on eBay via BIN
    Obtain it
    Complain to PayPal about it
Get a refund and simply keep the item
Seller is screwed and eBay is actually assisting in fraud.

Barc0de, what are the International laws about an organisation involved in fraud?

Been on for a few weeks and the seller keeps dropping the price. So might be worth contacting and negotiating rather than waiting any longer

Yeah but we have machine guns, no speed cameras, and in some places no
    tax.

Try to beat that in ireland paying 50% income tax
    or
Having to pay a tax on your TV
    or
No metal gear ps3 package (sorry boys had to bring that up)

Of course much can be said good about europe's health care, etc.

However, I tend to forget all of that knowing I can own an anti-tank weapon.
