They cost something like 600 from nintendo.

What you could ever do with it given you wont have access
    to roms without encryption...

no, I just copied and pasted the web address from the listing after having opened it from my watched auctions. I'll be honest, I have no idea how to do any kind of affiliate links, nor do I care to find out.

I remember seeing them back in the late 80s in the UK (where Grandstand were based), this came out at a similar time as the Gameboy, not sure if it really counts as a cartridge based system as the game and screen is on the cartridge and the control system is just power, controls and a fairly pathetic bulb system. The games were the horrible late 80s LCD games that were cheap and nasty and most serious game collectors avoid. As you could tell from the pictures the output is rubbish and the games dull.

Whilst checking out the Grandstand system (just for nostalgia purposes, as it's rubbish lol), the following item came on the bottom of the screen as something similar:-

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Retron-3-Super-Nintendo-NES-Genesis-Game-Tri-System-B-/140580676698?_trksid=p4340.m1374&_trkparms=algo%3DPI.WATCH%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D15%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D2291633245362251361

Apparently, a Megadrive/Nes/Snes all in one. Surely this infringes a load of patents/copyrights!? Or do Sega and Nintendo not care anymore?

nope dosnt violate anything bc back in i think 1995 or 1996 alot of the patents ran out for the nes snes and genesis/megadrive
all three of those systems are all systems on a chip on 3 separate bored inside the retron3
