To answer your overall question I'll refer to one of your answers.

Is it someone who likes Neo Geo games and plays them?

For me, yes. First and foremost it's about the games, not just for Neo Geo / SNK / SNKP, but for any format / company. Originals of course, I feel that roms / multicarts for the sake of 'convenience' show no class, show no respect.
You can add in a dose of support for the extras too..flyers, osts, mooks, company history etc. Or not, games come first and the pleasure they bring is mostly why I 'game'.

So in a forum context, I'd assume (as you do, unless I've misinterpreted your words) that it would lead to discussion, appreciation, sharing knowledge tips and tricks.

Thing is..there aren't even that many Neo Geo fans on this board (that I know of).
Understandable if that rubbed you up the wrong way given I have posted so much crap here, but that was genuinely not a dig at the forum, just an observation. I haven't seen much Neo / SNK / SNKP discussion in my time here, little posted in the collections forum, not much for sale or wanted. It doesn't strike me as an unreasonable to statement to have made, but I happily apologise to all the Neo / SNK / SNKP fans here, and hope to have some rational good natured, informative discussion!

Veering back to the topic, which is itself off topic (my apologies again people!)...what can I say.

I'm like a dog with a bone, and regardless of the NGF history etc (which I haven't, nor has anyone here brought up for while until this thread revival), Dion's posts get right up sizeable hooter.

He makes a big play on people meeting him in person and finding him to be quite decent. That may well be true, but one has to assume that he presents him differently in real life. No-one can hold a conversation speaking 'press release' style.
I, on the other hand, am just as much of an asshole in the real world. All my pals would heartily agree, and if anyone wants to meet up to confirm that, please drop me a line!

(Dion, next time your London way, pm me if you have the time. I could buy you a beer, ask you round for lunch, hell, smoke a fat Cuban if that's your poison. But were my opinion of you to change, it wouldn't be due to forum wheelaa and real life Adrian being any different. Something for people to consider.)

It's not my desire to irritate members, especially those whose postings over my years here have led to huge feelings of warmth and respect (albeit unspoken) in / from me, with you Retro being right at the top, and an absolute lynchpin of this forum in my eyes.
I will genuinely endeavour to lighten my tone, in part by being more civil, largely I suspect by just ignoring any matter as I see it. Although I refer to my dog with a bone comment above, and sadly I know I won't be able to fully change. You, and anyone else who can't stomach me, can always deploy the 'ignore' function, or if you feel strongly enough, put in ban request with ASSEMbler and his forum staff.

 

You should know by now wheelaa that I have nothing against you. I respect you as a fellow collector and appreciate that, whilst you can go off with the others sometimes, by and large you're one of the more sane amongst the Neo Geo community and I consider you one of the 'good guys'.

I do agree with you that Neo Geo discussion was quite scarce around here... at least until Dion showed up! Like him or hate him, at least he's got us discussing things Neo Geo, whether they be good or bad. And for those who know little of the format, it's given them an insight into the games, the stuff Dion has and also the mentality of some of the fanbase! And yes, I agree that it gets tiring that you can barely mention his name around here without someone going over old shit for the millionth time. Hence we need to direct people to the NGF thread to save things going wildly off topic I will most likely post a crap load of links there to let people who don't know the situation read up and make their own minds up about Dion and the whole situation.

Anyway, point taken - it is rather quiet here on the Neo Geo front, although I attribute that to this being originally being a place to discuss game development and associated hardware, and other obscure rarities from the gaming world. Sure, Neo Geo has some rarities, but we don't really have much dev gear or many people writing software for the format, sadly. And rest assured, I have nothing against you personally, but the angry mob with pitchforks following Dion wherever he goes gets a bit tiresome.

Talking of meetings, you should have come to the trade show we all went to years back! Although I guess that might have been a bit before your time... I can't remember.

Back on topic... er, what was it again? lol.

Oh yeah... well, it seems there's still no sign of Tonk, despite him logging in a few days ago on NG. I've seen several respected members of the forum over there state that they think/hope he was just naive and caught in the middle. I'm curious as to why he's do a disappearing act if that is the case, though.

What do you think will happen? Will Playmore hear of this latest attempt to pirate carts and do something about it? Will the angry mob turn on Tonk?

Seems Tonk had some issues with Dion, slagged him off, apologized, everyone called him two faced, he pointed out that Dion was polite despite Tonk being rude to him... etc.

It's better than an American soap opera, this!

 

guys, I know that as game collectors your interest in the neo geo drama is minimal and I assure you that I feel the drama is a black eye to the gaming scene. I don't like re-hashing this stuff because its pointless. The reason we are convened in discussion is for the love of the games and systems. you guys are asking valid questions.. why should I have a problem with dion if he never scammed me? you're right, why should you? but try to understand why others would. I'll give you a strong example.

A couple years back, there was a member at ng.c who was terminally ill with cystic fibrosis. He was a very active member and was around since the early days. User name was Jigen, real name Clint Gorman. Jigen would even hang out in the ng.c irc chat room and post his number for people to call him up at the hospital and chat about games.

Jigen, like a lot of other ng.c members at the time was a very vocal NGF detractor, Dion took this personally especially after having met up with jigen at an expo at one point..

this is what Dion is like when he thinks no one is looking.. this is the exact transcript of an aim conversation between Jigen and Dion in the mid 2000's:

There are people (current active members) who remember this incident very very clearly. Now you guys can understand why some people have such disdain for Dion AS A PERSON regardless of his business ethics or SNK distribution rights holdings.

I asked, now ASSEMbler has spoken on the matter - keep the Dion bashing to the NGF thread. This is NOT the place to discuss it. Dion has NOTHING to do with AF3.

Lots of people were spammed, however the spammer was banned last night.

He is the N-G.com 'Driverboy' and the same chap who thinks if you like M. Bison from StreetFighter you're a Nazi and if you having a shooting team link in your signature then you're a paedophile.

I believe he is kicking up a fuss because of some drama regarding a mobile phone app he was flogging, N-G.com members did something about it and now is is harassing every forum with N-G.com members present. I'd ask the details of what his problem is, but I'm banned from N-G myself for asking questions about Dion/NGF.

Also the AF3/TonK drama seems a lot like heaven on their minds...

This sort of drama is why I got of Neo Geo collecting in the first place. Of course I did just get a Neo Geo CD, so maybe I'm a sucker for punishment?

Just went onto NG.com to read the latest, only to find people asking when DavidG's releasing the so-called 'non-freaked' KOF2000s.

Not trying to be overtly offensive towards other forums, but why are some members of that community so happy to be figuratively punched in the guts by scammers, and yet are asking for more?

And also, why is the community putting up with this? We've had several reasonably well-respected users pull scams over the time they've been here, and what did the moderation team do? They banned them. Plain and simple - and those weren't even scams as deep and evil as this. Heck, if I out and out scammed several thousand dollars out of people, I'd fully expect banishment at the very least. Maybe it's because he's 'promised' to give the money back, but seeing as he's tied it all up in buying cases from SNK/the back of a Chinese lorry and TonK has giving everyone the silent treatment, there's nothing more either of them can say that makes it better. Letting them weedle their way back into members' hearts is *not* the way to be dealing with this, in my opinion.

 

Most are asking for the photo's of the Kof2000's since they don't belive he's made them yet. The old give him enough rope to hang himself ploy.

yeah man I don't get it either, dude stole tends of thousands of dollars from the community, most respected members lost all credibility they may have had, the devteam putting out new games is potentially involved in a massive counterfeit racket, this scene is too much

 

I understand how TonK got involved but I don't understand what makes the AF3 cart NGEV.TEAM's problem.

a) They make homebrew games
b) The are in contact with someone who *may* be a scammer (who isnt?)
c) They make a purchase of snaplock cases from the *maybe* scammer, presumably to house their homebrew games for a limited release

End of story?

 

My theory: they are scammers because couple of months ago, Tonk the scammer claimed they were scammers for the very same reason evrybody claimed for 15 years the ngf guys are scammer: they sell poorly packaged games with autorisation of the copyright holder but no autorisation from the neo-geo.com copyright hoarders :nerd:
