    Hello,

    There is a good new :)

    A bugfix IPS patch is created.

    Here is the readme file:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    (this is a draft)

    Estpolis Denki II (Lufia 2 - Rise of the Sinistrals) Japanese prototype
    Bugfix patch
    Version 2012-11-20

    by trevormacro

    There are 4 types of errors corrected by this patch:

    - Bytes corrupted during bad dump
    - Incorrect internal header information
    - Bugs caused by incomplete data
    - Other bugs

    Bytes corrupted during bad dump:

    Here are the 5 corrupt bytes that have been located and fixed so far:

    0x000000: 0x00 -> 0x78 Startup crash fix (thanks JLukas)
    0x004000: 0x02 -> 0xFA Sound fix (thanks JLukas)
    0x004400: 0x02 -> 0x03 Sound fix (thanks JLukas)
    0x006600: 0x00 -> 0x51 Sailing ship bug fix
    0x016600: 0x01 -> 0x69 Crash after intro fix (thanks JLukas)

    It might not be a coincidence that all 5 offsets end with '00'.
    If a pattern could be discovered, it would be easier to locate the remaining
    corrupt bytes.

    Incorrect internal header information:

    The internal header (ROM Registration Data) has been fixed thanks
    to the retail Japanese ROM. The checksum and its complement have been
    recomputed and take account of the changes brought by this patch.

    Bugs caused by incomplete data:

    * Missing background animation data

    The data for the animation of the water in Preamarl is incomplete
    and similar data for other maps is missing. This makes the game freeze.
    The best way to fix this would be to import the missing data
    from the retail ROM. However, this kind of animation doesn't work
    (for an unkown reason) even when the data is complete (this can be seen
    on previous maps).
    The following fixes temporarily solve the problem by disabling
    these animations.

    0x0303CD: 0x?? -> 0xAF
    0x0303CE: 0x?? -> 0x39

    * Missing item in Sundletan's cider shop

    The cider shop of Sundletan attempts to sell an item that doesn't exist
    in the proto (which has less items than the retail version), and appears
    as a "F" in the shop menu. Just entering this menu can alter Maxim's name.
    In the retail version, this item would be the Green Tea.
    The following fixes remove this item from the shop menu.

    0x047280: 0x?? -> 0x68
    0x0474DE: 0x?? -> 0x03
    0x0474DF: 0x?? -> 0x04
    0x0474D0: 0x?? -> 0x00

    * Missing random enemy encounter data

    Because of this, random enemy encounter can only happen in the first regions
    of the map.
    In the retail Japanese ROM, the list of enemy parties for random enemy
    encounters is at [0x08DE76, 0x08DF1F]. This patch inserts this complete list
    at [0x033998, 0x033A41] (formerly free space) in the proto.

    The following fixes change pointers to complete the relocation of the list.

    0x02BF79: 0x?? -> 0x99
    0x02BF7A: 0x?? -> 0xB9
    0x02BF7B: 0x?? -> 0x86

    0x02BF94: 0x?? -> 0x99
    0x02BF95: 0x?? -> 0xB9
    0x02BF96: 0x?? -> 0x86

    0x02BFB5: 0x?? -> 0x98
    0x02BFB6: 0x?? -> 0xB9
    0x02BFB7: 0x?? -> 0x86

    Other bugs:

    * Alunze Castle Basement B5 bug:

    Because of this bug, Maxim can't cross the pillars even after they have been
    lowered by walking on the switch (after the cutscene with the thieves).
    The following temporary fix allows him to do so, however it also allows him
    to cross one of the top pillars before it as been lowered.
    This fix might affect other pillars in other basements / labyrinths.

    Thanks:

    If one day one man/woman want to publish the rom corrupted I have the .ips file to fix many bugs and have a good rom to play with this fabulous prototype.

    What do you think?

    If you want to discover some others parts of this beta game and compare differences with final game you can suggest here what you want...

    Do you still have the game? Because the way you worded that last sentence, it sounds like you sold it or something and you're saying if whoever gets and releases it you'll then release the IPS patch... or am I just confused or not catching some detail? I don't quite understand your wording.

    I don't get why this is even being posted. None of us have this ROM, it's just more teasing.

    I know you feel oh so special keeping the ROM to yourself, but you can spare us your "updates" of IPS patches that are being kept to yourself for a ROM you clearly have no intention of ever sharing. The smugness just kills me.

    Totally agree with Bramsworth here - updates are one thing, but informing us about updates to a patch for a rom there's no indication we'll ever see?It kind of begs the question - what's the point? Game differences, fine - but the changes you've made to a patch seems like a strange thing to want to share on a discussion forum.I have to say that I am grateful for all the game difference posts - they're great - and I've been following it on/off - that's more the type of content people would appreciate, regardless of whether you want to share the rom or not.

    I still have the cart and the ROM dumped.
    I don't want to sell the ROM or real cart.
    I just creat this ips file to fix the corrupt rom.
    I prefer to keep the game for now.
    If I put the cart+rom on ebay or in private, I can have a good price. It's because I don't want to put in public the ROM.
    understand me?

    I just want to inform you about the update.
    It's better like that instead of keep in secret no?

    So let's continue to explore the game? Any ideas? to see the differences.

    After seeing the "Taito America Corp." mentioned on a Lufia I preview cartridge on this page: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lufia-the-F...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557.

    I think the "tamco" that's on sticker of the Lufia II proto stands for "Taito America Corp."
    This proto is still an early version from 1994, but if this proto was meant to be shown to Taito in America (perhaps to see if they have interest in bringing the game to NA) then the Tamco makes sense?
    And maybe after that, EGM got the proto from Taito America Corp to write about it in their magazine. Actually makes more sense than EGM getting that proto straight from Japan. Or maybe EGM only got screenshots and descriptions from Taito America since I can't really read what the article says and if EGM actually played it or not. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/ESTFAN/lufiascan.png

    (also it seems that "Taito America Corp." stopped existing in 1995, so that might explain why Taito America didn't end up publishing Lufia II in NA, and Natsume published it instead.)

    - We could continue checking that list of locations, to see if there are any hidden locations in the proto.

    - Make maps (via screenshots?) of areas that don't appear in the final game (like the underwater dungeons for example)

    - Also would be interesting to make maps of the three tower dungeons at the end of the game. These dungeons are in the final version, however they look very different, and even the layouts were different.
    Here's Shuman Tower from the proto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZedsDc1Z2mM
    And this is what it looks like in the final game (skip to 6:10): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlq1pF0qvpE

    - Actually, since there are many puzzles that are different than in the final game, and also other lay-out changes, it would be interesting to see maps of all dungeons (including the puzzles on them).

    - Record every "scene" that happens. I've noticed that while most of the game music is in the code of the game, not all the music was used yet during the game. (for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE4DIZQLfmg you can hear that the castle theme plays when Dekar makes his entrance, instead of Dekar's theme like in the final game)

    - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2doB_BgRkkc I noticed in this video that there are some sprites that are deleted in the final game, you can see Lexis having pushing, carrying and falling (jumping?) sprites. Artea also has these sprites in your video, but in the final game the files were removed. (Artea only kept one "push" sprite, which is used in the intro of the game.) Also I'm curious if the wedding versions of Maxim and Selan have sprites for their backs in the proto. (If you walk around as them in the final game, through debug mode, Maxim and Selan don't have wedding sprites for their back")

    Whoa! That's definitely an early version of the mystic stones room. There should be three rooms, each with a stone inside. But I'm interested in seeing if there's a door in the final room. If the doors don't work try looking around with mask off?

    What it looks like in the final version: http://youtu.be/TfMHDq-qi9k
    The final version has a door in the last room that never appears/open. There's nothing behind that door even if you try to go through with cheats, the door spot doesn't behave like it's a door.
    Anyway, the existence of that door caused rumors in the past, so I'm interested to see if they planned something in the proto.
    (the rumors were like that if you get all iris treasures, the final door would open and that you could fight Arek there but... it's already been proven that there is absolutely nothing behind the door. Also, there's no boss/monster data for Arek in the final game and from the monsters/bosses you have shown there's nothing that hints at a Arek battle)

    Edit: Just quickly went through the screenshots you sent me. I noticed Kirmo's lab belongs to Lexis instead in the proto. (It's called Lexis Shaia Lab 2 in the proto, but in the final it's Kirmo's lab. Kirmo does exist in the proto.)

    @Sinrevi:

    Hi,
    With mask off there is nothing around the room...
    I think it's not finished...
    I can't go behind the door.

    The game treats all the mystic stones room as one location.
    Anyway, I'm interested in a map of the whole place (there should be three crystals in total).

    edit: never mind, the final game treats the mystic stones room as one location, but according to the screens and videos, each of the three rooms had their own code in the proto. It's like this:

    (final)
    EB Shrine of Daos 5F
    EC All of the Mystic Stone rooms

    (proto)
    F6 Shrine of Daos 5F
    F7 (black)
    F8 Mystic Stone room
    F9 Mystic Stone room

    So it's safe to say that F7 would also be a Mystic Stone room. And since the game crashes for anything after F9 I doub there's a hidden fourth room at that time of development. The final game stores locations that don't exist yet in the proto after the Mystic Stone rooms.

    Also, can you check what music plays at F0? Kinda curious.
    Judging on the locations order of the final game, that map should be the outside of Doom Island. (in the final game it's only seen in cutscenes. You can't walk around like in Lufia I (unless you use cheats to escape the front door of Doom Island or warp there with a code)

    edit 2 I made a map of the two rooms showed in Trevor's video:

    [IMG]
    F8

    '[IMG]
    F9

    The layout is different in the final version, but some parts of the room look a little bit (really just a little) similar to parts used in the final mystic stone rooms. It seems like there's no door at all in the third room (that could lead to a next room). Meanwhile, in the final version the last room does have a door (that just never opens and there's totally nothing behind that door)

    @Sinrevi:

    Good Job about Maps ;)
    F7 crash the game after 5 sec and same music as F8 (perhaps I need to change the HEX value at this place to see the third crystal? perhaps the rom is corrupted at this place? I don't know.)
    In F0 there is nothing (black screen). same music as the first village because I use this village and enter in the first door.
    I don't see the third crystal :( (only two), perhaps the proto is not finished.

    What is the best way to make towers maps for exemple please? taking screenshot or others?

    Yeah, the third crystal is probably in F7, since the other two are in F8 and F9. (check the post above which I just edited)
    In the final version, F6 (which is F0 in the proto) also uses the same music as the location you were before you warped with the cheat.
    Anyway, I think that F0 was going to be for the outside of Doom Island which doesn't exist yet in the proto. Or might be damaged?

    You could try going to F7 by using the door on the down-left side of F8 but... you said that the doors didn't work so...hmmm I don't know.

    In the final game Iris teleports you to the Mystic Stone rooms, however in one of the proto videos I saw that instead of being teleported, there was just a developer message there.
    (something like "After this Maxim has to break three stones at the bottom of Doom Island. This event is being skipped now.)
    Then the game just skips to the epilogue.

    Or in short that means you can't get to F7 by just following the story <_<

    edit:

    I don't know any way besides screenshots??
    If you do so, then it'd be nice to also tell which door/stairs lead to what place.
    I'd suggest before taking screenshots, it would be better to remove Maxim and monsters off the map by disabling the sprite layer (in snes9x you have to press 5)

    Here's the final Secret Skills Cave. In the proto it's called "Elcid South Cave"
    The biggest change is that the tutorial cave got a bit longer in the final version.
