F/S Dreamcast Internal SD Mod

Show me a picture of where you mounted your VGA and S-Video so I get an idea of where to mount these. I was thinking of using the small opening behind the GD drive on the shell.

 

What does this do exactly? Can I get rid of the gd-rom drive, if I use this?

an app known as 'dreamshell' is used for it and other homebrew apps. (and i would think 'gdi-to-sd dumper' should also)
a solder pcb, pretty cool really!
i don't have the skills to outfit one so i use the serial socket (external) version!

there's also SPECIFIC 'iso's' for this sd reader, it is UTTER SHITE on the lead out speeds though, beware of that! (card compatibility vs dreamshell issues too) and CDDA output is a NO-GO!

a handful of games do work 1/1 as it would a gdi,...
all games require converting from gdi first! (the fpga gdi assembly replacement is NOTHING to do with this at all!)

My normal AV socket was removed and the VGA port is there instead so I don't think that it is a viable option.

Mine arrived in three days from across the country and they are really high quality. I am debating on if I want to cut my official custom system for this mod but glad I did it on one system as it is really HQ and really useful for many things outside of loading games.

 

Thanks for the compliments! If you have an internal VGA mod done then I see no reason not to do a surgery on the console but if not there really aren't too many places to mount this on the system without cutting some of the shell.

Great! be sure to have a Class 6 SD card for Dreamshell.

 

Is the ribbon cable long enough to mount the SD reader at the front of the Dreamcast?

 

Should reach no problem, the ribbon is 8 inches long. Please indicate the LED color when ordering.


EDIT: Just got the addon boards so anyone wanting to order them with the ribbon connector can do so now.

 

Finally got around to taking some pics after getting some flux which makes this a super easy install. I did a wired method prior to this and looked horrible. Will post pics now that it looks nice and clean. Still need some epoxy to properly mount this but if you're going to get this I highly suggest using flux.

Also this gives ample room for install on the front of the case. Looks best right above the modem IMO.

Dumps disc in 32min using jj1d0m DC SD Ripper using class 10 SDHC card and about 48min using class 8 or below. Using Dream shell to dump expect 4-5 hours to dump a disc. DS makes NON-TOSEC compliant images while DC SD Ripper has made TOSEC perfect matching hashes every single dump.

Sure I will post the DC SD Ripper i made from the binary files here and feel free to add the link to your main post. It is soooooo much faster the Dreamshell. Just extract with 7z and burn the CDI file as normal. I will also post the IMGBurn set I have that makes burning free and easy without the need to buy discjuggler. Just install the app and drop the dll files in the IMGburn program folder to add CDI support.
