Instead of creating a new thread, i thought i'd ask here: My computers all came with one years subs to Norton Anti-virus and Spysweeper from webroot, now that there 1 year has come and gone, my subscriptions are also gone too. I'm not really looking forward to spending the 50-60 bucks to renew them both, so i was looking at AVG free, and their free suite of protection software. Should i go for the free AVG stuff, would i be just as protected as before, or should i stop being a cheap-sh*t and just renew..... Ryan
AVG free is my favourite of the Free pieces of AV. If you wanna splash out then buy yourself NOD32. Fantastic piece of AV, and if you have an educational email address (e.g. ryan@schoolblah.edu) they'll give it to you for half price.
I use Avast now, but AVG always worked really well for me. I've never been satisfied with purchased anti-virus software, as most of it eats memory like it's nothing. Avast (and AVG) runs in the background and generally doesn't cause any problems.
Common sense. Screw the AV, just get a good firewall and don't double click "free_horse_porn.exe" or those MSN "OMG is this you!?" links.
That works too, rofl. But it's always nice to have. I said Win defender because its already built into vista and you dont gotta mess with it. Smart people usually dont get spyware so why install something else i guess.
I quit using avast because I didn't find it as small as AVG and the bloody "Virus Database has been updated" noise pissed me right off!!
heh, thanks for the help guys, i guess AVG is the way to go..... i'm sure i'm behind a firewall (using a wireless linksys router), though maybe i should mull around the settings and see if i can beef up some settings 0_o Ryan
