I have no idea what kind of person you are. 186 posts and you registered here this year. I have cheese in my fridge older than your account. No offense but I don't know you or trust you.
Used to have similar problems on IRC with the DCEmulation IRC channel. Another user would have ACE and I'd use APE so ACE switched to ace and it wasn't quite so bad so long as you were using a font that made case quite clear. Rank on other boards tends to be a bit more discrete or non-existent. As for helping around, I wouldn't mind if I was tapped.
Non taken, i didn't particularly expect your trust at this point. I was just stating that over time a few issues have come up that i have offered help on where no other users (publicly) have. I could sit here all day and list the things i do, sites i moderate, and credibility i have, but at the end of the day i could still be a troll. That being said, just because the internet mostly consists of troll's or scam artists doesn't mean we all fit into those categories. Just for the hell of it to add a bit of background information... The main reason i am here is for the preservation of digital gaming information as i find it extremely important. A bout ten years, when i seriously got into gaming, there was a site known as halomods that i was a large part of. The fact that, as a group, we were able to modify parts of Bungie's Blam engine and build entirely new maps and add gameplay functionality was truly amazing. The community there played a fairly large role in my life at the time. But eventually time went on, Microsoft locked down the Xbox 360, and the community slowly died. Tons of data was lost as the domain switched hands multiple times. All that remains is a small current site and an archive with almost no file downloads. The amount of man hours that went into research, development, and the building of a once great community was essentially lost forever. This is basically why i'm here. To preserve all of the non tangible digital information i can so that others may be able to find it in the future intact. On the side i collect physical hardware and media as well. That being said i believe this site is invaluable, although i have only recently discovered it. The success of this site directly benefits my goal of preserving gaming history / information. Any skills of mine that i can offer to benefit this site aren't simply gestures of kindness, but are efforts to build what i have taken as a hobby into something bigger. Essentially i have a personal / sentimental interest in this site and thats why i offer help. For anyone who may be interested, this thread sums a lot of stuff up. http://www.halomods.com/ips/index.php?/topic/364-this-site-this-community/
thanks for the story... really sad that happened. Reminds me of mods for fallout 3, the Japanese ones. The forum crashed and all the files gone forever... What you weren't around for was alot of bitter fights and ddos problems. It's made me super guarded with who I give access to the site controls. The person who initially volunteered to set up the site never finished the job and used a cracked version of the VBB, so we got legal issues for that. Then there were people leaking games.... more issues.
There's no doubt why you're scared to have a helping hand, and want to do things yourself. It's very hard to trust others these days for just about anything.
Hasn't there been quite some help offered by long-term members and yet it was still ignored/declined? Anyways.
Some people have too volatile a personality to be impartial or to act in a calm manner. We have a lot of passionate people, but what we need is sort of level headed people. Caretakers. I haven't had the time to evaluate the situation. I'm working on it.
Yea it is sad, but times change and people move on it happens. Your views are completely justified. Some things here are on the edge of legality, and that attracts a lot of people with varying morals and motives (as well as lawyers). If you ever decide to take my help, just shoot me a pm.
I'm more than happy to do a bit of moderation here and there. Got more than enough time on my hands and I've been here a long time.
