Just a suggestion that you might want to change "(Canceled)" to "(Canceled game)" because when I first read the subject, I thought maybe the auction was canceled.

Yes but being bootable is far from being 100% dumpable with a verified checksum. No offense intended as Sega employees from the pre-Sammy days are next to saints in my book. Hell if you still lived in the SF Bay Area I'd have to buy you a drink for all the hard work.

I'm tempted to place a bid as I'll be running into money later this month but I have a feeling Yakumo would sooner sell his house than let this one get away.

But if you happen to have any DC BBAs... :)

I thought about that too. I can't change it but can a mod please add this to the title of the thread?

I sold all my BBA's when I first left the company for around $120 each. I had like 4 of them at the time. Yeah, I don't have a dev kit. I wanted to restate though that this burn does not boot. There is something on the disc and looking at the properties of the disc it shows the contents were created at the time the disc was penned. I will do everything I can to get any info on the disc for you guys just let me know how to do it.

I'll post one. There is data, my computer says the disc has 548 megs total but all I see is a "map.miff" file for 4.6megs and an Audio .aiff track for 35.9megs. When trying to play the audio track it's just loud static. I don't know what is using that other space though.

Actually, and I can't even believe I didn't think of this before but this disc was made a month or so before the Dreamcast hardware was even done so odds are, it only works on a dev kit which explains why I can't get it to boot. This makes me feel good about it since now I might actually get a chance to play it again!!!

If there is someone in the bay area with a dev kit, let me know and we can try it out.

    Very interesting game...
I have a stupid question to make.
(it really is since i have no idea about deving. Please bare with me.)
Have you tried to extract the .cdi file to your pc and load it with a DC emulator changing every different bios files available?
And something crazy (and possibly pointless) thing that came to my mind is:
Would it show anything if booted with a UTOPIA boot disk?

Sorry for my dumb questions everyone. :/

The earlier blue discs must have worked differently than the orange discs. There's supposed to be two areas on a GD disc: the low-density and high-density areas. The gameplay files you found should be in the high-density area which is only readable by a GD-ROM disc. The low-density area usually contains the warning track and some text files.

Fuck me. I'm in Napa (~1 hour outside of SF with good traffic) and all I've got is retail hardware. Should not have passed on that dev kit last month.

Just updated the OP to state I'm not going to do Paypal due to the price of this. Will do a wire bank transfer or money order. The wire bank transfer is fast and cheaper than paypal fees and the Money order while slower can be tracked.

Current bid is $320. You're raising the bid $180? really?

I'm out. Mostly because I've had working unreleased games for equal or less and dont want to pay so much for what is probably a lemon. Well that and I need some food money left and my scammy bank charges more than paypal :p

I have a feeling you are probably going to need to run on it a Set 4 though, but as you all my know, I blew mine up then sold it on (though of course informed buyer it was blown up)!

Good luck with the sale and to the victor goes the spoils!

Those unreleased games weren't Geist though. When is the last time you saw this? Better bid now ;) Oh, and because I'm not taking Paypal and I know it's a pain, I may go in halves on the bank charges depending on the amount they charge.

hehe no they wern't, but they booted and wern't dumped (at the time of purchase - annoyed me when I paid $500+ for Propellor Arena to have ServiceGames dump their copy, Flintstones Rock Vegas I didn't care so much it was only 100 euros and a shit game) :p I never dumped the other GD-R though and resold them for the most part, at a loss.

I also didn't pay more than $50 for any beta GD-R either, especially as the titles didn't get me mentally erect. If you had Phantasy Star Online hiding back there I'd pay a slightly higher price because of sentimental value but not by much ;) Of course prices may have changed in more recent times but I'd rather be a jew and have money for when everyone else is skint tbh!

Paypal fees are roughly 4% at the current $500 bid of Juste = $20. My bank charges £25 I think, which is about $40, which is currently 8%. Also they may not give me a favourable exchange rate which could possibly be worse than PayPal's already dire 1.572 $USD per £GBP :( That and my shipping fees would be higher and I'd probably have to pay import tax on top too when it enters the country :(

I can't afford to go higher even if I wanted to though (unless my hmrc cheque came) and I don't want to. If you can get the use of a Set 5.24, or better yet a Set 4 to see if it would indeed boot due to the weird file structure I'm sure other people will bid much higher than I am able or willing to ;) Geist or not its value is nothing if it will only ever be a coaster and you never pay full price for a fixer upper, especially one that might never be fixed so... best of luck, but for these reasons I'm still out :)

+rep for halfs on bank fees and I wish you the best of luck though ;)

And you destroyed a GD-X duplicator or something by messing with some potentiometers on it. :D

Since it doesn't boot it likely is some basic problem with the ip.bin (whoever ends up buying this better hope so) otherwise we may have a System Shock 2 type problem.

I don't want to sound like the voice of doom here - but wouldn't it be better to post in the Dreamcast dev forums (here) and try to figure out what is on the disc first, rather than selling something blind like this. What if it's a bad burn of the game that's missing essential chunks of data.

I don't know, but unless there's some urgency to this sale I don't understand why every effort isn't being made to figure out what's on the disc first?

If it does turn out to be useless will the buyer get a refund or will they be stuck with a $500 gdrom that doesn't do anything.

Not to also point out the obvious - but if it DOES work then the price is sure to rise to a heck of a lot more than $500... It's a piece of Dreamcast history. Well, maybe?

I know I could get a lot for it if I knew 100% that it worked. It's not like I picked up the disc from a box and made the thread. I'm leaving the game industry and moving cross country for family. This is all moving money for me, not doing this out of greed. I'm cleaning out my house of all this old stuff and want it gone. I don't have time to fiddle around with it. I just want to sell it and move on. If I get $10 for it or if I get $10,000 it's no difference to me cause it will just be more than I had previously. Moving is very, very expensive so I'm trying to get the most out of what I have.

The disc is sold as is, no refunds. Once it leaves my hands, it's gone to me forever. If someone can do something with it... great. If they want to frame it and mount it on their wall, that's fine too, if they want to put it in the bottom of their cat's litter pan, more power to them. I understand the frustration that comes with this because of how unique it is and how important it is to the history of gaming. But it is what it is.
