It's either that, or the Australian government will start taxing game cases with a "plastic tax" they've been thinking about it for soft drinks and or anything made out of plastic. Horray.
What? SCD/Saturn cases would crack by just looking at it, let alone being total scratch magnets These days half the games I see lack the case, wonder why?
i didnt mean the sega CD style plastic cases, i meant tho ones that are more like DVD case style (not the awful card glued to plastic)
Well, looks like i'll have to import Killzone Trilogy... Just watch the videos to understand why: -Killzone Trilogy - American release (crappy plastic, 3 discs in 1 case, no manual) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWFiOGrMHT8 -Killzone Trilogy - European release (cardboard cover, each game on it's case) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i_wUMRfRJs
oh dam that looks good, shame there's no point in me buying it as i bought killzone 2 less than 2 years ago and have the steelbook edition of killzone 3 which i bought when it came out
My Killzone 2 is the Asian release (English Version) and Killzone 3 is the american release. I really want Killzone HD on disc, but there's no way i'll pay for that crap Killzone Trilogy american release. I"ll obviously get the european version and keep Killzone 2 and 3 retail sealed.
I agree with this thread. It's ridiculous. I can't stand it! This is what happens when you shift towards a Digital Era and evne then the Digital versions are STILL charging basically the same price or MORE than you can get it retail for. Fucked up Catch 22 there
Bumping this topic for a reason. It seems game companies finally achieved a new lower standard. Games packed like demo discs, in cardboard leaflets. This actually reminds me of piracy during the PS1, PS2 days. Being sold on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Game-Lo...4990?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item2a280026be
Damn dude? The pirate copies in Brazil had fancy colour leaflets? Pirates here were plain disks with the game title shittily scrawled on it in plastic wallets
Even if they are pack-ins, they could have put the discs on a standard blu-ray case. The size difference would be very small. Edited: Confirmed these are pack-ins with the recent PS3 "Super Slim" models. The majority was just like that. But some came in low quality plastic DVD cases with decent cover prints. Some examples: http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-456980029-jogos-para-play-2-pacote-com-20-jogos-_JM http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-457588467-jogos-plastation-2-antigos-_JM
I briefly had some reasonably decent looking Xbox 360 pirates, long sold now. Never tried them since I didn't want to risk banning the console they were with.
talking about low standards = lazy Console > PC ports irratate me to no end, turn out being complete whale shit when they could have been great games. latest one to annoy me: Rage. i expected alot better from id software and bestheda shame on you Mr Carmack! although it didnt cost me much (got it in steam sale) i still expect it to work. i Expect better for any Future Doom's and Quake's.
Add lame dotnet-based configurators here. Can't detect hardware properly and there's no human-editable ini file. Is it too hard to add default settings (like 800x600 default resolution and some default keyboard mapping) and ingame settings menu ? They're just waaay too lazy.
There is an upside to all this package downsizing. With the rise of downloadable content, the physical discs will be pressed in lower quantities and possibly in the future be more valuable. Also the cheaper the package the less "mint" condition versions will be out there in a few years time.
No way. Uncharted and inFamous are very succesful franchises. Even if a particular version had a small production, those are still games that sold a lot, almost 1:1 for each console. And i don't think we'll see people paying more for a cardboard version. It's not like it's comparable to a steelbook limited release.
It's all about what you're downloading now, betas accidentally getting released, games disappearing from online networks, patches removing features, etc. Disc content never truly represents the final product anymore, in tomorrows's age what might be valuable is what you have on your harddrive as well, because at some point in the future it might be unavailable for good.
