SNES Ranma 1/2 got butchered beyond reconginition for the U.S. release, all the characters were changed into generic fighting game stereotypes, all the music, levels, etc.
Who can forget Bionic Commando on the NES...the Nazi-esque references were altered and toned down a bit in US version. Enemies still look very German, and Hitler's likeness is still there, but compared to the Japanese version there's quite a bit censored.
Sorry if you didn't like it - perhaps it was a bit harsh. Perhaps I should have phrased it a little differently. Either way, in my opinion the JP/PAL soundtrack is considerably better. You probably should use the "report bad post" button if you have an issue with the post though. Wolverine - It might just be me, but that post confused the hell out of me!
the_steadster: I just mean, some people are not fond of the american things like the soundtrack in games or other stuff. And pisses on it. And I know it pisses alot of US people off when somebody is jumping on their products. So what I ment was AWS should take it easy . Since some people like the US version soundtrack. Others don´t, but the context is if you say, USA sucksors and everybody else roxors. Or that the US Sonic soundtrack sucks : It could be an offence to some people. And I know a danish is a pastry, but in reality the danish is not Danish but from Vienna (the capital of Austria). So we danes are calling in it Viennabread. or Wienerbread to be more accurate, since Wienerbrød is the Danish word for it.
I dunno why, but the word wienerbread makes me giggle for some reason. lol I know, I know...grow up already...but it's still funny!
There's a few changes between Assault Sits Vanken (SFami) and Cybernator (SNES). Missing cutscenes and even missing character pictures during conversations, iirc. But basically the plot got butchered. Oh, and the bad guy shoots himself in the head at the end in the Jpn version. There is a fantranslation available of the Jpn version, in case any Cybernator fans are intersted in the real plot. Absolute quality game though, stomping around in a big mobilesuit and all.
I cannot speak for everyone or for the game in question, but a lot of us in the US get pissed when we don't get the Japanese/original versions of games. I am sick and tired of "Americanizing" games just because developers do not think that we can handle or understand the original content.
I know this probably effects very few people on this board but at least in my PAL country (Australia) Silent Hill 1 got slightly butchered when they removed the Creepy Kids with knives and replaced them with the Teddy bears with claws enemy. A little weak since it made the game slightly harder. Zone of the Enders 2 had a minor set of tweaks in the PAL release too (I'm not certain if this version can be bought in NTSC) to the multiplayer such as introducing the boost bar from single player into multiplayer as well as a set of missions (which are essentially Single player goals anyway) into the VR missions. I also think something was changed in the Kingdom Hearts game for the PS2 between one country and another though I can't remember the details on that.
I can't list all the changes but DOA2 for the DC was released in Japan many months later w/ some extras. Extra costumes for one... not sure about anything else.
PAL release saw special edition of ZOE2 and this version was later released in Japan as SE. TMK it never came out in US though...
I think I saw the comparison on Yakumo's Retro Core. Assault Suits is overwhelmingly awesome and was seriously changed.
Is there a thread for horrible box art changes? For example, Skweek (in Japan), nice and cute: Shocked me when it got changed to this: Noooo!
