Seems now if a new IP Sells......sequel time. I think video games have more sequels per series than movies/books/tv ect Some games should just stand alone Like Rez Rez doesn't need a sequel it's just as awesome now (and now in HD) as it was then. PN03 will never get a sequel since it didn't sell well (a shame becuase it's awesome) but It's good enough to stand on it's own. Okami doesn't need one (and probably won't get one since Clover disbanded) I'm probably forgetting some it's 1 am here and I'm sleepy so.......
Destroy all Humans 3 (unless its not a rehash of the other games before it) Onimusha 4. Why did this get created? Oh yeah, Capcom. A future title would be silly. Any more NIS titles that barely change anything I can't think of many more out of the games in my collection. Oh wait, I just reread this thread. SOTC doesn't need a sequel. It would kinda defeat the purpose of the first game, if it was exactly the same anyway. One set in the same universe of the Ico series and maybe making a trilogy would be good though. I meant seeing a SOTC 2 would be kinda cheesy. Lunar 2 EBC doesn't really need a sequel. It would be interesting to see one, but the end of Lunar 2 was kinda "it". They killed some Evil God guy, and peace was restored. Of course another evil God guy could come along, but that'd be cheesy. Arc the Lad 1 and 2 were good, but the series should have stopped at least at Arc the Lad 4. Hell, 4 ruined a lot of stuff in the game. It went from Modern to medieval-ish. As for Final Fantasy, each game getting its own sequels and spinoffs is silly. I think FF7 has the most content, and its especially sad that the main villain is all flash and no substance in that game.
I say, one thing is a good sequel, and the other is a spin-off, totally commercial sequel made by a different team becos the original didnt want to put out to the execs, who just want another version of the game to increase the quarter's profits...
Incidentally, Mizuguchi said that he would like to make another Rez utilizing the power of the Xbox360 fully. Just be thankful he bought the rights to it from Sega, so its not going to be another butchery from that shitty company!!!!!
Oddworld Strangers wrath In my opinion its the best game on the xbox very creative and never gets boring no matter how much you play it
Army Men (thank god no more) Sonic Riders (but it got a sequel) Shadow the Hedgehog Metal Slug 3D ( please, no sequel!) Need for Speed (only the first one and hot pursuit versions were good)
Just b/c a game is perfectly refined doesn't mean it doesn't need a sequel. Look at the Dodonpachi series... how could they improve on that? Yet, it's getting another release this Spring. No matter how perfect a game is, even an arcade game that can for all intentions be "mastered", it will eventually run out of steam. Another game in the same vein with tweaks isn't a bad thing as long as it's done well. Most of the games listed here are of the variety that I would rarely play twice due to length. In that case, a sequel is always warranted if I'm ever to enjoy the IP again. On a similar note, I would love to get another Jet Set Radio, but I know I won't.
Is not that game's sequels cant be better than the original, the problem is that it those sequels will never be able to live up to the hype, mostly becos the original never had to, it basically came out of the blue. Yeah but one that doesnt sucks for a change... Only idiots like those at SEGA would sell a property like that: a Wii port with new controls would be bought by every pothead out there for sure:nod:
The most recent one I can think of is HL2, and even that one isnt considered as revolutionary as HL1 was.
I would love this too. Although I have not played Future....Its' realease on a non Sega system basically took away all of my interest at the time it was released. Is it any good?
That only leaves how many hundred more sequels in the past few years? It's excellent. It plays differently enough from the original that it doesn't nullify owning it. Some of the stages get large, so if you suck, they seem to take forever. This is the perfect example. I don't think the original needed a sequel (or a tweaked re-release for that matter, which it got) but I thoroughly enjoyed Future.
-Worms. They shoudn't have made Worms 3D / 4: Mayhem. They just suck in comparison with the 2D series. -Pokemon: Face it, it's over. Let them die.
I think Eternal Darkness is one of those games. Amazingly deep game, loved it, but a sequel would probably not do it justice. Killer 7 is up there too Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2, they didnt need the rest - jungle beat was cool and different. F-zero for the SNES. the GBA games were OK but felt kinda lame
