FROM THE DESIGNER OF HANZO AND TORO HERE COMES A NEW MONSTER...

GARO - THE UNIVERSAL VIDEO TRANSCODER

GARO is a multi purpose, universal component video converter for your favorite consoles. It takes Component (YPbPr) video signal, and outputs VGA (RGBHV) or RGBS (Scart) video without compromising video quality. It's a 1:1 transcoder, not an upscaler, so it outputs what it's fed, from 480i to 1080p.

It's designed for the consoles with component video output capability like the original XBOX, XBOX360, PS2, PS3, GC and WII. So you can now play these consoles on your VGA monitor or TV. However what makes the GARO unique is its Scanliner function. GARO can add scanlines to the image, this is a great feature if you are playing retro games on these modern consoles. You can also adjust the thickness of scanlines or choose odd or even scanlines too.
GARO can output RGBHV via its VGA port or RGBS via its SCART connector. So you can use it with your upscaler like the XRGB Mini too.

NOW IT'S TIME TO GIVE A NEW LIFE TO YOUR BELOVED CONSOLES...

We are currently doing the final pcb tests so it will be launched very soon. It will have the same high build quality you would expect from the BBS.

Interesting. Hopefully it will be a MUCH better build quality than what I see on eBay, if not better.

Would this be much better than the YPbPr to RGB conversion done by the TV itself?

This is not an upscaler, it outputs the same video quality without any degrading. Hence your TV does the upscaling, it depends on how it handles the component and RGB signals. The main purpose of this device is the Scanliner function, now the old games look better on modern displays, especially the original Xbox or Wii. We had the Xbox in mind first when designing the Garo, since it has many arcade emulators and nice 480p video output. Also It works better than the converters I tested so far like the ones Audio Authority, JS Technology etc.

Sorry for the Necro bump but I was wondering when GARO is going to be available? I have an old NEC MultiSync A700 I would like to use this with.

I think he is going to use the BA7230LS chip which is based off of ACE's design on Sega-16 or the other SOIC version used n some SNES consoles but I could be wrong but either way those circuits should work fine on any system that outputs RGBS but will not upscale the image like the one he is making (I have such a board on OSHPark you can order for this chip).

You are totally wrong. It's not used. It's a component to vga converter.
Testing the latest prototype, hopefully we can start production this month, and start taking orders very soon.

P.s. Made some design changes and fixed some issues also using smd components in the final revision.

Bump... any new updates? Will probably be ordering one when they come out so I can use my Wii U on my CRT computer monitor.

We will begin to test the final prototype before production. Waiting for these pcbs, in a few weeks we will receive it.
Fixed some issues on the previous one, so this one will be the last. Sorry for the delay, it took so much time.
