That would be the ultimate review put-down for GT5:

'This game is exceptionally good, but the distinct lack of Yugo, Lada, ZAZ and Moskvich cars means that it cannot be totally enjoyed. A severe disappointment. 6 out of 10.' :p

Don't get me started on LADA.. that old LADA 2110 car can make a man out of anyone.

At least with go-karts you can feel the speed, with a LADA not quite so much.

    Hell damn yes you could.

I want to be able to get out of the car in racing games.

Mainly so I can do this:

Why the F did they have to put Nascar in GT5? I suppose they'll sell more copies. And I don't have to play the Nascar races... Right? This won't be like DIRT where in order to finish the pyramid you have to do a bunch of crap you don't necessarily want to do?

this is definitely in Duke Nukem Forever/Feature Creep territory. The developer keeps wanting to add things and then once those features are added more come up. Soon the state of the art cars are going to be a year or so old.

With the disappointment that was Gran Turismo PSP, I think Forza is the car series of choice right now. As for glitches, I'd rather have a shipped product that was fun to play then a magazine photo of a game that is years late.

DNF can't be fairly compared with games that actually have made it into playable demos. It can't even compete with games that have playable concept buils:p

Fair enough, but as a Gran Turismo fan myself I'm really wondering what is going on at polyphony studios. Sony must fund them pretty well since they only come out with this one game franchise.

They are owned by Sony, so one would assume this to be correct. GT is a flagship title on the Playstation.

PD is very profitable. Just check here:

    http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html

And these numbers aren't updated since September 2009 (GT5P already is on the Greatest Hits/Platinum/TheBest Series). And it doesn't count Tourist Trophy sales.

As much as Sony funds them, i guess they have managed to raise a lot of money themselves. GT3 and GT4 sales were fantastic. If you count GT4P and GTC on Asia / Europe, it helps even more. And let's not forget the tons of licensed products in Japan (Guides, OST's, diecasts, R/C, ...). Curiously, GT and GT2, aren't avaiable on the PSN for PSP/PS3 to this date. I guess if they needed the money, this would be a easy way to get it.

Not to mention, PD have designed some NISMO aero kits, the GT-R multipurpose display, collaborated with companies like Citroën (Citroën GT), VW (Lupo Cup training), Pescarolo Sport (Endurance Races), Subaru (GT Concept 3 screens simulator), Nissan (350Z Press Kit, Nismo aero kit, Micra Press Kit, GT Academy),and many others like Mitsubishi, Formula Nippon, Mazda,... The GT-R was unveiled at the same time on GT5P and the Tokyo Auto Show and some other companies like Toyota and Ferrari, unveiled the FT86 and the 458 Italia first with videos of GT5. Also, the partnership with TopGear, Video Option, D1 Grand Prix, Best Motoring, for the Gran Turismo TV, and with Logitech for the Wheels.

Kazunori knows how to work together with car companies, and since every game has being extremely succesful, i'm sure funding is not a big concern. GTPSP wasn't so praised by the critics (from the start i knew it wasn't to be good - check my posts - and i'm a GT fan), but i don't think the point was to make a GT4 port to gather some money. PSPGo had free GTPSP download, so it was probably Sony demanding it to help boost sales.

Anyway, i think the delay was mostly because of Sony. Kazunori always said on interviews that it's up to Sony to decide on the release date. At this point the game is complete (has to be, since it wasn't PD who delayed but Sony). I guess Sony doesn't want to have major titles being released at the same time (God of War III and GT5).

    To finish, read this:

Why WOULDNT you want NASCAR? For a game that bills itself as the "Real Driving Simulator", it really lacks in variety. For all of the leagues in the game, there seems to be proper rules, flags, and all of that. Its also going to have Indy Racing, and WRC at the least. You may not like NASCAR, but you should appreciate the skills that the racers have, different then F1 or your favorite or not.

But yeah, more features, hence, delays.

I worry a little that they are trying too hard to fit as many different racing styles into the game, to the point that they will end up being inferior to other racing sims on the market. Plus, it's for no perceived benefit as GT fans want GT-style racing from it, not WRC. WRC fans are already lost to the Colin McRae games, IMO.

Except there really aren't any other racing sims for Nascar, Indy, or WRC in the recent years. EA has given up on NASCAR (poor sales due to shitty games really), WRC hasnt had a truly great game, nor has Indy. If the GT physics are as good as they say, then I doubt there is that much lost sleep. Im not saying making it mandatory racing, but a properly implemented feature, like Im sure it will be with all these delays, will add prestige, and more importantly, more damn fun.

Well, Rally is part of the series since GT2. I wouldn't consider it as "new" feature / series.

Let's not forget that GT3/GT4/GT5P had F1 cars, LMP1 Prototypes (Endurance races), Fia GT1, GT2 and GT3 cars, Group B Rally Cars, ... And even motorcycles on Tourist Trophy and Gran Turismo HD.

The biggest difficult they might have is with Indy. Indy cars always race so close to each other due to aerodynamics/drafting (info) and ground effects (more proeminent than Formula1).

Still, there's tons of stuff they probably don't even announced / showed it yet.

I hope there is native X360 controller support for this game, it's a shame to see all that detail wasted in controls.

I mean for fuck's sake, the default acceleration button is mapped to X, which is analogue on the PS3/2 and it's a pain in the ass to use. Switching to triggers isn't any better, especially comparing the Dual shock 3's to the 360's. Don't get me started on the stick either..

anyway, if you really want to enjoy the game to its maximum degree, go get yourself a good wheel:D

Yeah, but the rally racing wasnt really all that amazing in the past titles. It was still a standard race. WRC will have the rules of the actual league, and locations to go with it. And this isn't just cars that they are adding, this is the real deal, rules and everything. Caution flags for the Nascar, full sponsors on the cars, and that sort of thing, thats why Im excited about it :p If they said "Hey, lets put a stock car in the game" and ended it there, I wouldnt really care.
