What about an automatic Philips composite/s-video switch with a SCART Adapter on the output?
Also, would the composite signal be detected on a console with s-video out like an N64 or 3DO?

I can plug my Philips switch to my TV through S-Video only and display systems with composite-only connections like my TG16/CD, so I think yes, but do you know for sure?

I am so pumped about this!

There are no waiting lists anymore as per the first post. They should be available for public sale in a month or so.

It can work, although I haven't tried. In S-Video Y carries sync pulses and it's mapped to the same pin as composite which means that it'll be detected just fine. Another thing is that switch VGA output won't work and you'll have somehow to tell your TV to use those SCART pins as S-Video. I doubt a lot of TVs support it so it's likely that you'll need to come up with S-Video adapter.
Modifying your two consoles for RGB sounds so much easier :)

I'm afraid I'm a bit confused. Does the composite signal detection mean that the switch won't work (iow the auto-switching function won't work) with so-called 'pure sync' cables like this one?

It'll work, sync pulses are used for the detection.

    Update:
Guys, a lot of things are happening behind the scenes. SCART version distribution is close.
Hopefully by the end of the next week I will be able to update you on the details.

I'm stoked to see what the news would be. I've been looking for a good SCART switcher, but I'd rather support this community than some sort of corp if I can help it.

Does that mean that after the Scart switches are available you will start on making JP21 switches? :D

As much as I would love to go that route, I would need another of your switches at that point; and I've never seen a TG16/CD RGB mod. I would love to, but I haven't yet.

If it's a US TG-16, you might check this out: http://www.db-elec.com/home/products/dbgrafxbooster

Take a look at RetroRGB.com. He has info on a TG16 mod. Might be an amp for the Duo. Cant remember off the top of my head.

I never modded my system and just use this with a SCART -> JP21 adapter on it:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scart-RGB-Cable-for-PC-Engine-TurboGrafx16-EXT-Connector-/172070269958?

Works great, just plug it in and go. Only rub is you can't put the back cover on, or you have to dremel a hole for it, and it won't work with a TG16-CD.
