Of note my gscartsw is the euroscart version and all of my cables are obviously euroscart (not JP21) so there is a difference there.

I'm good to go now. Thanks to Fudoh over on Shmups. I had to flip the cable around. Both ends were labeled JP21 to JP21, so I never thought to flip it. Working like a champ now. All 7 consoles have audio and video.

I don't think that I got around to saying it earlier, but thanks so much superg. Your switch is extremely well built and is pleasing to the eye. Not to mention the fact it supports 8 consoles. Huge step up in functionality compared to my $130+ Selecty21 (3x1).

    Late to the party.

What are the chances for another batch of the JP21 version of the switch - maybe next year - if general interest remains?

Are you able to check the cable schematics using multimeter?
It could be that sync signal isn't routed properly, remember - it's crossover.
EDIT: oops, haven't seen that the issue has been resolved :)
My schematics includes crossover sync both ways so technically your cable isn't fully wired.

I have two last JP21 switches which I plan to put on sale next week (with remaining SCART units).
I could manufacture more but really there should be at least 30 units ordered and given the demand it's unlikely.

For what it's worth I also tried my final two consoles tonight:

Nintendo 64 (PAL) with N64RGB (Tim Worthington)
Nintendo GameCube (PAL) (which has native RGB with SCART)

...and they work fine with "retrogamingcables.co.uk" SCART cables and the gscartsw as expected (cheers).

EDIT: Nearly forgot...and filling the final slot in my gscartsw is an Amiga 1200 (which has native RGB with SCART). This also works fine with a "retrocomputershack" SCART cable.

I'm in the same boat where I would prefer a JP21 unit over a SCART unit. Especially for Japanese collectors, SCART is pretty much a non-option. Almost everyone I know who is doing RGB does so via a Framemister, so all these JP21 to SCART adapters (Console out), then SCART back to JP21 adapters (Input to Framemister) are just a waste in my opinion.

I hope you do bring back more JP21 units, because I'd likely be down for one if you did!

Funny but I think that JP21 is not an option.
Don't quite understand what do you mean by collectors? You can still collect all Japanese videogame stuff and use SCART for playing. After all the switch is meant to be used, not collected. If you care about quality SCART offers much more high-quality cabling solutions simply because it's widely used.
And lastly comparing SCART and JP21 demand - less than 5% of switch users are using JP21.

    superg,

Do you think you might do another run of SCART switches this year? I am working on building a pretty sizeable collection of retro systems and will need two of these. I am going to try to grab them next week when you put the remaining 5 up for grabs. But given the demand out there (and my luck lol!), I'm not too optimistic. I'm hoping that there is enough interest for you to make another run soon. These switches look absolutely awesome and have had great reviews.

I'll do the next SCART run using the same ordering scheme, pre-order and then I'll match the amount to order more. Let me first make sure that this batch is fully done. (I'm still waiting for one person from Europe to get his unit)

Ok my bad, perhaps I should re-phrase! :) What I mean to express is that people who collect Japanese games, hardware, and peripherals will naturally be using Japanese standards. All our consoles, hardware, and cabling will naturally support JP21 because that's the standard in Japan. When I say SCART is pretty much a non-option, I'm talking about this segment, not everyone as a whole (again, my bad if it came out that way). As to your point about comparing SCART to JP21 popularity, I never disagreed with you. I'm just advocating that what you make is a wonderful product and that it would be shame if you dropped production/support for the Asian regions.

So, I've finally gotten my switches! Due to shitloads of work which just suddenly rained down on my like the brown-puss-like-mucus it can be... ;) I've only had the time to try out one switch. But... I don't need to try the other one, because the build quality and attention that has gone into this little dream is just amazing! I can say that without a doubt this switch is a must have for any retro game enthusiast or collector! I absolutely love that I'm able to enjoy all my consoles without the hassle of having to switch between them all the time!

THANKS SUPERG! You've enriched my gaming experience immensely!!! :D :D :D

Haha, I'm sure a few of us are in the same boat (myself included). We've heard next week as an ETA. Cheers.

I'm just waiting on the male JP21 to male JP21 cable and male JP21 to framemeister mini-DIN.

Unlike the other switchboxes I own, the gScartSW JP21 requires power, so my setup may need a new larger surge protector. Adding another one does make me start looking into your new gCompSW if only to match the aesthetics ^^.

I cannot speak for others, I just stuck with JP21, because it was what I used from a long time ago (I have official JP SFC, SS, PS1 RGB cables). It is a bit much for me to replace 7 systems worth of RGB cables.

The VGA out does have me curious if my Sony GDM FW-900 monitors would accept the signal (back in the day, I used the XRGB2 not only for RGB, but computer CRT monitors were my display method). I did a quick search around my area, and someone does have a BVM available, but for a bit much at the moment. I really like the ability of the gScartSW to output both VGA and JP21, it means (without counting my splitters) I can output to a lot more displays now.

    Thanks again superg!

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the cable that I would need to use this monitor that I just purchased with the switch. s-l1600.jpg
