I'm using SCART pin 8 for power (maybe I mistakenly wrote it as pin 16 somewhere - my bad) Yes, LED will be turned on only when external power is connected.
Thank you so much for even looking into this. I will be so happy not to have to hunt for multiple Selecty21s!
A little update. Here's how new switch looks: Just did some chaining: My Sega Genesis connected through 4 switches sequentially, no visible degradation. 5ft Genesis SCART cable + 4 * 4ft switch-switch SCART cable, which is 21ft in total. I was able to see some degradation starting from 5 switches in chain. However there is no any reason for having more than 2 switches in daisy chain, it should grow in breath first order so you may clearly have 8 switches (64 input ports) connected to 9th root one. I am still waiting for silicon pads and hopefully on this weekend I'll finish testing and check pricing. FYI: here's my marketplace thread: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?52513-gscartsw-automatic-8-1-SCART-RGB-switch (I'll update pictures there once I'll get silicon pads) and my shmups thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=50851 A lot of information is scattered around, just skim through these topics, there are a lot of information on the switch.
Hei! This looks great - I've run out of sockets on my Bandrige scart switch. One question, no Audio breakout for connecting to a sound system for example? Any simple solution to pull audio out separately? Thoughts?
New version looks great, nice job! The plexi looks much thicker? What is the function of the green LED? If you decide to do a v1.5, one change that might be useful is to put the LM1881 switch in a location that is a bit more accessible - maybe on the top of the device or on the front (I consider the rear to be the side that has the DC input).
I like viletim approach (but this is output SCART, and you need input one): http://etim.net.au/shop/shop.php?crn=203&rn=543&action=show_detail I may do similar thing sometime later. Also you may find some ready SCART->SCART+Audio breakout solutions, please read my shmups thread (link is in my previous post), I think mickcris posted photo of such an adapter there. Thanks! Thanks. I had to use 2x thicker plexiglass for top panel because new SCART connectors I've got doesn't have mount holes. Now PCB is attached directly to the bottom plexiglass and SCART connectors are affixed by 21 solder points and thicker plexi from top. Green led turns on when external power is used. Couple of users who got the switch used some bad power supplies and I thought it would be a neat way to tell whether switch gets power from a psu. As of LM1881 switch - it should be close to lm1881, which should be close to other board logic so I'm unsure whether moving it somewhere else is a good idea. I expected it to be more "static configuration", do you flip it often?
FYI: I've updated marketplace topic with actual information and photos. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?52513-gscartsw-automatic-8-1-SCART-RGB-switch
A little update, next batch of switches is tested and ready for shipping. I will let you know by PM about each order. The bad thing is that my basement got flooded yesterday (switches are safe) and it looks like it isn't an end yet. I will answer all of your PM's and will prepare for shipping as soon as I'll manage to finish with this issue. Thanks for understanding.
A quick question, not knowing the current draw of powering one of these, but would a 3a supply (with split cable) be ample for this (optionally 2 daisy chained in the distant future) and a XRGB mini concurrently? Thanks! (p.s. sent a pricing request via pm to you)
Switch needs around 11mA maximum. Add to it XRGB consumption, mine is far from me right now, cannot check.
Hey all, Some findings from my short time playing with the adapter. Firstly, it's very well built and solid, this is so important! 8-way is connected via a SCART-> BNC adapter into a Sony PVM-20M2MDE Ok, so I've tried the following; Japanese Mega Drive (with 32X and Mega CD) – fine Japanese Game Cube with Sauron RGB mod cable – fine PAL Nintendo Wii with RGB SCART – fine PAL PS2 – fine Japanese Dreamcast with PAL RGB Scart – very dull picture as mentioned, swapped to the original SCART lead I got with the DC and it's fine. RGB Modded+amped PC Engine Core Grafx (by mmmonkey) – the picture's all over the place. Both with and without the LM1881 switched PAL GC with official RGB lead – fine Sega Multi-mega with switchless BIOS and RGB SCART from consolegoods.co.uk – fine Japanese Sega Saturn – fine Yet to try; Japanese PCE Turbo Duo Any advice on getting the PCE going most gratefully accepted. I've opened up the SCART socket and there's a resistor across a few pins, and I'm willing to cut/desolder whatever's needed. cheers!
Thanks for your feedback! Do you use XRGB? CoreGrafx: personally I don't own this console but technically it should be similar to TurboGrafx, I got positive reports for it from other switch owners although I don't know if they've installed amplifier or not. It may be because of amplifier but I'm not sure. Basically if video signal will be out of supported multiplexer range those frequencies may be cut. In your SCART cable you could see resistor going from pin 8 to pin 16 - that one is fine. Also there might be 3 resistors on each RGB line and most likely they should be 75Ohm. So CoreGrafx works if connected to XRGB directly, right? If your screen is messed up there might be problems with sync, try to adjust sync level on XRGB.
I'm not using an XRGB, I have the 8-way connected via SCART > BNC into a Sony PVM. The picture quality on all consoles is incredible. There's only one resistor in the CoreGrafx SCART, I think the other bits are inside the console – http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/core-grafx-rgb-mod/ The CoreGrafx worked just fine on a normal Sony Trinitron, but I never tried it with my XRGB2. Updated my consoles tested list too…
I suppose CoreGrafx works fine if connected directly to your PVM through SCART->BNC? Is it possible for you to connect CoreGrafx to same Trinitron through switch, just for test?
Yes, CoreGrafx works perfectly thru SCART > BNC adapter. I can try to test on a Trintron this weekend. Will let you know how it goes.
Might not be the best place to ask but can someone recommend me a good rgb cable for the jaguar to use with this switch? I saw a few pages back I may have issues with the retro computer shack one due to no power? So far I haven't had to get a power supply for my gscartsw and I'd like to keep it that way if possible Cheers
