Nice work Tchoin! Damn, if it ends looking like that i guess it's perfect. But the upper banner don't need to have the GT logo and GT written on it again. Anyway the name "GT Garage", does everybody like it? Any other opinions / suggestions?. It was the first thing it came on my mind. (because i had a simple website on Geocities years ago called "Johnny's garage"). Anyway, if someone with Photoshop skills wants to help, why not trying to create the top banner using a mix of Gran Turismo pictures from all versions? Tchoin banner is great, but a mix of all GT's would be cool. Or maybe having like 6 different top banners, so each time people enter the website it shows a different one? Again thanks a lot Tchoin ray: And yes, Barc0de, i want to keep it simple as well. Simple layout that Tchoin understood and simple sub-sections as well. For example after selecting Gran Turismo 2, it could have these options shown: - Retail Versions - Official Demo Discs - Magazine Demo Discs - Prototype / Beta - ... Or maybe we can use something like this: http://www.satakore.com/sega-saturn-complete-game,,1,,0,,0.html Maybe having a full list of Gran Turismo 2 discs (in this case), and having a option to filter like: All / Retail Versions / Official Demo Discs,... Then people would select what they want and be guided to something like: http://www.satakore.com/sega-saturn-game,,T-5020H-50,,Andretti-Racing-EUR-ENG.html This could have a better layout.
Are official and/or functioning peripherals something to consider? (steering wheels, compatibility etc) Merchandise is also an interesting but tricky bit, one that needs constant updating considering how much lies hidden for years before anyone takes notice.
I guess we could add a peripherals section on the 2nd menu, right before "Soundtracks". Merchandise on the other hand, would go into the " Promo / Other Items " Anyway, the site can be updated slowly. After we decided a basic layout for each game, then we need to write everything. Release dates, Small description,... Most of these stuff are easily found on Gamefaqs, Wiki,... But we also need good pictures ( i think we'll have to "hire" edward_v12 for that ) of the case (front and back), disc, barcode, rating... Anyway, i'm still worried about hosting. Any ideas? Perhaps consider using iWeb to make the site. Produces high gloss very manageable sites very quickly.
Well these technical stuff will depend on who develops the website. Like i said, the basic layout is something like Tchoin did. Selecting each option / section only changes the middle part. When you load the site the middle part is the portal / news. That could use something easy to update, so dumb people like me can update the news without much troube. All other options would probably require mySQL queries as there would be lots of options for each game and items. So, i guess we'll need something skilled for it come to life. Plus if we need a paid host, we need to figure out how we'll pay it. I'm still trying to figure out the best base layout for the each game / item info.
If you can wait a couple of weeks while you figure out the best layout for the info, I'll gladly take care of developing the web, but until the first week of August I'm kinda screwed by exams in the university. Speaking about the hosting, there are tons of pretty good free hosting servers, and buying a domain is really, really cheap.
wow guys, I was out for a while and what happens here? I can see many good ideas from all of you, and I will be happy to give a hand for contents, unfortunately I do not have much time available but I'm happy to see that something is "moving". @Tchoin, you are right, there is lot of free hosting servers around, but this is not a good solution, they are slow, and very limited. Another thing, for the layout of the site don't use the "original" GT logo (to avoid copyright issue).
That would be great Tchoin. :thumbsup: We still need to figure out some stuff, so there's no problem. As for domain, Assembler said he would give us a free subdomain here. Something like granturismo.assemblergames.com Really? There's tons of sites using the GT logo without any concern. GT4 official website even had a fan site kit. GTBR uses the GT Logo - > http://www.gtbr.com.br/ Anyway, can anyone contact PD about it? http://www.polyphony.co.jp/index.html Never thought it would be an issue to use the GT logo, but it's better to confirm this before any trouble.
just found this: http://www.gran-turismo.com/sitepolicy/en/ Trademark Usage The marks "PlayStation ", "PS(logo) " and any other product names, includeing without limitation, "Gran Turismo", "Tourist Trophy", service names or logos of SCEI used, quoted and/or referenced in this Web Site are trademarks or registered trademarks of SCEI or its affiliates. "SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT(logo) " is a registered trademark of Sony Corporation. Other product names, service names, logos and/or company names used in the Web Site are trademarked and copyrighted properties of their respective owners and/or licensors.
the GT logo can be used without an issue. The site is just a fan site, a data base of actual facts. Since no opinion is expressed beyond the one that a person can reasonably have there's no detriment to Polyphony, their trademarks, or their revenue in any way. A mere disclaimer at the bottom of the page suffices to keep the dogs at bay.
The more I read this thread the more I am seriously considering starting up my own GT collection. I picked up a PS1 yesterday from my local newspaper and when I got there the guy threw a few free games in he had found; one of which was the original GT game. Picking that up fueled with reading this thread and watching some car movie on TV last night I have sat and played the original GT for 4 hours solid (first time in a long time I have put any hours into a game). Is the fansite going to be just information or are you going to have collection pictures and articles about the collectors on there too? What about a section showing the collectors and there real life cars?! I can't really help with web design or content (for the moment anyway) but if monies are needed to fund hosting etc.... then I am more than willing to donate some cash!
Exactly what i was thinking. Well, it's going a database of all releases and related items (demos, books, soundtrack,...), one part for articles (history, evolution,...) and probably a space for collectors as well. But first, the main goal is to have all info of the stuff we have in one place. Since Tchoin will only be able to start helping us on August, we are still planning some stuff. Maybe we can have some sort of paypal account for donations, but it's still too early to plan something like that. Anyway, thanks for the interest in helping us. We'll let you know as soon as we need donations. :thumbsup: And congrats on your interest in the GT series. We'll end up having a full race team here :lol:
I'm waiting Tchoin to finish his university exams, since he volunteered to help developing the website. He'll probably help us finding a good free host as well. With that covered, we'll be able to start adding stuff. I think it would be easier to begin adding normal retail versions from all regions. First GT then GT2, then GT3, ... and when that's finished, start adding other stuff without hurry. Also, the news part could be updated with info on GT PSP and GT5. When we have something to show, i'll post it here. And i'll need the help of all you GT collectors. Pictures, info, articles... :thumbsup:
Hey friends, let's get our hands dirty. I prepared a quick list of first GT title. I have the items which has an asteriks at the end of the line. I attach as a text file, cause formatting in the message is killing me and also attach GT press information that came with GT3 press pack. I know the list is not complete, but it is a good starting point. And Johnny, could you give me your email adress, i want to send you some photos, scans etc. And going to prepare a list for GT2. :thumbsup: GT list -> View attachment GT.txt GT Press Information -> View attachment GTPRESSR.zip
I have just finished the lists for GT2 and GT3. GT2 list -> View attachment GT2.txt GT2 Press Information -> View attachment GT2PRESS.zip GT3 list -> View attachment GT3.txt
Tonight's last additions, again from gt3 press pack. GT3 Press Information -> View attachment GT3PRESS.zip GT3 Key Features -> View attachment GT3_KEYF.zip GT3 Car list -> View attachment GT3CARLI.zip GT3 Track List -> View attachment GT3TRACK.zip GT3 Music -> View attachment GT3MUSIC.zip
Great work ortus. I'll compile the lists in one excell file. Keep the pics on your PC for now. I think this would be only needed on the final stages really. Having Serial codes, release dates, region differences (cars added, removed,...) and so on, it's more important now.
