I have something new for you. Recently i found an awesome extension for directory. It allows us to create our custom fields. This means there is no need custom db job. Currently i am alone, but at this time i need your help. Till now i worked on the framework and know its capabilities. I think concept gave up collecting GT stuff, so i did not include him to the collectors list. Anyway, firstly we need a hosting provider, i am going to ask Assembler for that. edward_v12 said that he could provide the pictures. For the items he does not have, we (me, johnny, nev, alexbrasil) can provide the necessary pictures. I created some fields (region, serial code, release date, collectors list) for each record, maybe we can add a brief description to that list. Any other opinions? I haven't tried the carbon fiber background, by the way we also need a someone who has some photoshop skills Lastly there is an option in the extension i am using, which is an entry form and it allows you to enter the information too. Before that i have to learn user management on joomla
I can give you guys a hand if you need it. I have a hosting service for some sites I've been working on, with a good amount of storage and lots of bandwidth (and I think I'll be upgrading it in some months). The server is mostly free since most of the sites I host there have a really low storage and bandwidth usage, so if you need I can host your site for free. I also can give you a hand with the development section, I've been working with PHP for some years and I also know a bit about graphic design (Mostly Corel and Fireworks). Well we have to figure out how much it would cost, specially knowing the great ammount of pictures. Plus how much ads on the site could help maintaning it. Then there's the most difficult part, developing the website. I might be able to help with money to get a host, but i don't know nothing about creating websites.
I think, firstly we have to think about the hosting. For development, we can use joomla and a cataloging addin for joomla which i used for demonstration. It is still alive, http://kdturkay.byethost7.com/GTCollectors/ z_killemall may help us about customizing joomla and the addin i mention.
As I said before, I can provide a hosting service with 150GB of storage and almost unlimited bandwidth for free. I'm using a tiny amount of storage and bandwidth, so I think it should be more than enough to start...
