There are rules in life kids:

    1. Nothing's free. Nothing good is cheap.
    2. You don't read the rules you deserve to get stung.
    3. You have to accept responsibility for your actions.

I have no sympathy for the idiots who bought pictures of an Xbox or an empty box for $400. If you're too stupid to read, you deserve to get stung. There shouldn't be fallbacks for idiots, if there's no penalty why should they learn to read a little more carefully next time?

If you want to back out of the deal, do so and possibly accept the non-payment report and negative feedback. I haven't an ounce of sympathy for anyone who decides the rules don't apply to him because he wants a better deal. "I want it, I should get it!" Sounds like a four year old grabbing for the candy.

Sure, the seller's an ass. That's a given - but he made the rules, it's not like you were surprised by the shipping. Suck it up and either pay or back out, I say.

And, finally, while I'm being a harsh bastard: "YOUR LEGALY OBLIGATED TO PAY.... I also get the classic "my kid was bidding and he didnt know what he was bidding on" routene... I have consulted legal help in the past, and know exactly how to go about doing it..."

You misspelled you're and routine. And, I gotta say, you threatened to bring out the lawyers over a hundred bucks. Are you insane?

I do feel bad sometimes for people who get fucked with shipping, but not the "buy this picture of my Xbox!" people. I always make it a point to read shipping on ebay auctions before I bid (which isn't often, anyway, as I don't have a Paypal account). If the deal seems to good to be true, check the shipping - it probably is too good to be true.

It's a good habit to get into, and it will save you plenty of suffering in the future.

One other thing to watch out for is if there's no shipping charge posted at all. It's possible they left it out by accident, but I'd email the seller and save the email stating the shipping charges. Just some advice ;).

I am kind of skeptical about the whole thing. You do not want to pay the 100 dollars "shipping" and this is understandable although you should have done a better job reading the description of the item. You do however want the PS2 for 60 dollars. Well the price is so cheap because people avoided bidding on it because of the excessive shipping fees....I am against people charging 100 dollars for shipping but I also understand that you got the PS2 for so cheap because of that...You want the bone and the dog fed at the same time.

Jesus, let it go. You agreed to his shipping cost when you placed the bid. YOU ARE TRYING TO SCAM HIM.

Everyone else seen the auction and though "postage is expensive - I won't bid much".

One thing to remember with ebay is read everything beore bidding. If the shipping cost was never stated in the auction than it would be fair to say he is overcharging but with it being stated in the auction than he is in his rights to charge that. While it may not seem right it is one way a number of ebay sellers are using to save on cost and in turn keeping selling cost down this is due to ebay charges are so expensive to sale an item If you do not pay based on the seller you could get a NPB and after three your toast for having an ebay account.

Guys, believe me when I tell you that I agree 100% about the reading before bidding.. As a seller, I share the same exact sentiment... However, there is a rule about excessive shipping.. And he's violated it.. Your examples are quite different than mine... alot of your examples are about international shipping. In my case this item is only in philadelphia, and im in chicago... The shipping should be no more than $15... $100 is excessive to say the least... The shipping is shipping... Unlike the actual price of the item, your not really able to just name your price.. The shipping costs what it costs..

Unfortuently by ebay rules if it is stated in the auction than those are the terms you are agreeing to by bidding on the auction. been down this road with ebay. My difference was the guy never stated his shipping cost in the auction. so I had no idea on his price and because of it was able to get a fairer shipping price.

Please note I am not saying right or wrong just how some people on ebay operate and how ebay sees it from my experience

You know, NFG, I agree with you 100%. People never read the god damned auction any more. It's ridiculous.

While against eBay rules to over-charge on shipping, it's also against eBay rules to not pay and not read the description. So you lose, 2-1.

People always say eBay=teh suxxorz!111!one one!111eleven because they get burned. I got burned one time. And it was my fault. Pay attention, it's not too hard and will save you a ton of time.

Edit: And shipping is not just shipping. Another classic n00b thing. It's shipping, packaging, and handeling. In my case, I use it to pay all my eBay fees. This shit ain't free to list and paypal rapes people up the bunghole.

What is this sellers feedback? Can you post a link to the auction? Depending on how experienced you are you can SOMETIMES force shipping at your prefered rate. Paypal can be helpful for situations like this. I have had quite a few sellers try to scam me on shipping cost. I have paid with paypal and only paid the amount I believed shipping should be. If the item doesn't arrive you then go through the complaint procedures on ebay and paypal. You will end up getting your money back (no negative feedback) of getting the item. The trick is never letting the seller know you plan on doing this, never send a angry emial message and never respond to emails about shipping costs. Just pay wait a little while and then file complaints within the 30 day time limit. I learned this becasue somebody did it to me to get FREE shipping. Its not 100% guranteed but you won't lose your money.

The real point is, what it states on the auction page is the sellers shipping charge. If you bid knowing that shipping was $100, you "should" pay it fair or not. By bidding you "agreed" to the listings rules, guidelines or descriptions etc. Yes it violates eBay's policy, yes it's f'd up, yes it should only be $15 +/-, no he doesn't "have" to lower it.

My biggest problem with ebay is American users bidding on PAL games not realising they don`t work on their systems

Although I now put a notice that PAL games will only work on European and Australian systems about 1 in 10 of my auctions either end in me not selling the item due to me alerting the user at the end of the auction or ending up with a not happy customer.

Lately I just ship the item to them as I`m sick of re-listing items :(

Its not illegal. I didn't mention these sellers tried to change the shipping rate from what was posted. NOT ILLEGAL. shipping is negotiable. Since when is it illegal to pay for something, have a dispute about the amount and then go through the dispute process. Is it a misdemonor, a felony? NOT ILLEGAL

People do not read descriptions. All games give you an place to say PAL or NTSC. If you calm down read what is really being sold buyer and seller will be happy in the end.

As for this good luck when I have sold items and listed a shipping cost. I had a couple people try this I refunded the guys money immediatly and gave the item to the second up bidder. If there was not one I just relisted it and banned him from bidding on my auctions.

Ok, only a dumb shit would send an item first before it was paid in full. I might do that on a site like this, but never with eBay... it's too full of crooks and scammers. Oh, and short paying or only paying what you want for shipping makes you the scammer in my eyes. If you bid knowing what the cost was and then said it's too high, too bad.

    and

    @ ein

Yes, it's not just shipping. You are allowed to charge a fair value to cover your costs. That's no big deal if it's "fair & resonable" not $10 for a single CD game like some sellers do. Then again, what's fair to one, isn't to another. :-D Smart buyers figure in shipping to their bidding process and weight the total costs. This is not directed you as a seller, just in general.

Shipping is not negotiable on eBay. Don't be stupid.
