I picked up an original Xbox (not 360) Debug unit recently that has the unreleased game (AFAIK) Hail to the Chimp on the hard drive. I haven't played it through completely, but it looks like it's at least partially finished.

So does anyone know about this title for original Xbox? Whether it was released in any capacity?

And more importantly, is there a way for me to get this game off of the hard drive and onto a bootable disk?

    1) the game is completed and released on the X360 and PlayStation 3. The XBOX (1) version was canned.

    2) When you install the XBOX Neighborhood tool; you can easy drag an drop the game from your Xbox to your PC!

    3) How do I obtain the Neighborhood tool? Unfortuatly this piece of software is illigal to re-distribute. But I'm sure you can find it with google ;)

If I slap said file onto a DVD-r, will a Debug unit be able to play it from the disk, or will some kind of processing be necessary in order to get the DVD-r to play?

I believe if you just burn the files onto a dvd they should just boot. But im not 100% sure as i don't own a debug kit. All i know is for retail games they work that way when your xbox is modded.

That means you burn the data (Hail to the chimp) to a DVD. With most burning programs you can chose how to burn, in this case you want to make a data disk.

You need the Xbox XDK to get the data to your PC using the Xbox Neightborhood.

Two version of the Xbox XDK is available, i've one of them.

Caw, I must have given away my spare router. I'll work on getting one and backing this up with the XDK I "stumbled upon" with the help of another forum member. I may yet ask for help around here once I get a router to mess with it. In the meantime:

Very nice. You can also create a network using a cable from your PC to the Xbox, probably should have mentioned that (router is a bit easier though).

Does that say Build Date 11_17_06 or 08?

Should be 06, because 11-17-08 would have been after the retail release on PS360.
If it is 06, wow, that's an early build. about a year and a half before it went retail.

Do I need a crossover cable? Or any specific instructions? I'm seriously borderline incompetent compared to most of the folks around here.

    It's '06.

Most PC's will work with a normal cable. Some need a crossover, but thats typically older hardware, so it should work.

I PM'd a member about this, but I figure I might as well go public with my need for help with this project:

I finally found a cheap router to use for this project. The Xbox Neighborhood never finds the Xbox when they are connected to the router.

I have the Xbox Neighborhood installed. When I double click on it and then double click on Add Xbox, I am unsuccessful. I've tried the two IP addresses on the Xbox (one is just 1.1.6.1 and the other 10.10.5456.10 or something like that, the unit is off so I can't quote the exact IPs), as well as the name of the unit 'debug'.

Funny, if I go to Network Places in XP, it finds 'Xbox' but then there are sub-locations that are on my computer.

    Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. I look forward to backing up this title.

I sadly can't help you with the Xbox side of things but 10.10.5456.10 is an invalid IP address.

Your screenshot suggests that it may be a software version number but I have no experince with debug kit at all so may wrong.

Double check the network settings on your PC ensure that both the xbox and PC are on the same network [as in same subnet etc].

those were invalid IP addresses, the one you are looking for is in the bottom middle of the launcher. In one of your pictures it was 'alexx (0.0.0.0)'. I assume since you've installed the neighborhood you have the SDK, read through the documentation in it about setting up the unit and transferring.

Yeah, I've tried changing the subnet on the Xbox, but my computer still doesn't find the debug unit. If anyone can provide any insight, aside from reed the d0x or 'back it up', I will be much obliged. I am a networking novice and don't really have time to get my MSE certification, I just need a few suggestions. I'd really like to get this unreleased game backed up right away.

    The unit says:
debug (1.1.6.1) and 1.00.6456.1 on the bottom. The subnet is the same as my computer. The computer never even seems to notice the Xbox.
