1.00.6456.1 that number for sure has nothing to do with your IP adress. That would probably be the kernal.

    Yep.

At OP, try to set the network (debug) settings to automatic, so the router will auto-assign an IP address to the debug. That should get it going!

That did it! Now I'm transferring, but it's excruciatingly slow. I left it overnight to transfer the main game folder, and it froze at 11 minutes left. It started at 8 hours left. Even exploring the volume is slow. I'll try again to get this going, but it remains a bit painful.

Once I have the game on my PC hard disk, what do I need on a DVD to make it bootable?

tip: copy large files one at a time, that minimalizes the crashes!

It should transfer pretty fast using neighborhood but if you still can't get the game throw me a pm so I can help.

And to make a iso of the game I like to use Quix.

I got it transferred. I compared the files, even that was time consuming- loading directories. The files differ by minimal amounts in size, like 1k or something sometimes. I think it is just a windows inconsistency with rounding error. I made an ISO, I'll try to burn it and run it on the debug unit. I hope that works! I may try using Quix to redownload the files from the drive and compare them to make sure it's all good. I would hate to have preserved a gimped version. It would be hard to play through the whole game for me to find out.

This is a good experience for me, since I need to create iso files of other discs I have for preservation, and this seems to be a relatively easy process.

Oh, and another question, does anyone recommend a particular XP freeware ISO burning and extraxting program? cdburnerxp wants me to download .net framework, which I have been trying to avoid bloating up my computer with.

Does it need to be on a DVD or should a CD work?

Aha! I'm running the game from the DVD right now. Thanks to everyone for their assistance with what seemed like a massive undertaking for little old me.

I will make ISOs of other betas I have for archival. Can anyone suggest the approach I should take? Everything will eventually degrade, but in addition to the original disc, I'd prefer not to have more discs. Flash memory? Hard disc? Wha?

Hard disc is a good solution.

If you want to archive, make a hard disk and a optical disk backup, just to be safe.

I dont know why you would do that. He was backing it up and preserving it for himself, no where did it say free handouts :p

I tend to assume people aren't selfish. Annoying trait I got from my mother, being giving and all that. I guess that would be a better question though. Is there going to be a release of this?

I didn't demand or say I was owed anything. From the way things have been stated thusfar it sounded like he was going to release it. I know a few folks like you have a different opinion on things, but quit making assumptions about what people are saying, and quit with the rude & sarcastic driveby comments. They're silly, the accomplish nothing, and they make you look like a downright ass.

I didn't get the impression that he was releasing it.

This pretty much says it all right here.

So if he doesn't release it he is selfish? That is what you are saying. Reserving space on your hard drive??? Talk about making assumptions.

My only opinion is that people should be able to do what they want with the items they run across. I don't care if he releases it or not. Either way they shouldn't have to deal with your backhanded comments about being selfish.

If he does release it should be of his own desire not to placate the name callers.
