    Better images here:

This is the 'console' plate you requested images / measurements of.

This is the larger plate that runs the length of the gear assembly from dashboard to seat assembly.

Focusing on the gear aspect, here are the measurements you required. (The metal plate is 1.5mm thick)

You then place the TOP plate over the section...

It too is 1.5mm thick, and the dimensions were discussed earlier, however is the same plate taken off...

Here with the gear assembly in tact...

Let me know whether this is okay! Thanks OE!

Hmmm right, bugger, the thing is made back to front / upside down, typical, lol, I'll have to make it differently than first thought, np.

...Can u confirm that the internal square hole thats shown in the 2nd and 3rd pictures up from the bottom of your group of photo's is indeed 4.75" x 4.75" ? (plus or minus 1/16" will suffice as I'll make my plate 2.5" x 2.5" to compensate/allow for errors/sods law) ...It looks like it to me but the photo using a tape measure gives a distorted view, plus the tape measure is being used incorrectly in both photo's.

lol, it is kind of hard to use the measuring tape, keep the camera steady, make sure the lens cap doesn't swing into view AND take the image at the same time. I really could have done with another pair of hands or a tripod!

Yeah, it's a back-to-front design, which led me to believe the smaller top plate secured a leather boot to the bottom plate. I've seen several different cabinet / gear assembly designs now and it is quite possible that this was in fact the case and NOT as the Australian cabinet shows, a plastic plate. The plastic plate is more common on the stand up cabinets.

After the Murray V Nadal game, I'll check ;-)

okay, that should be 121mm x 121mm exactly. You can work in good old inches if you prefer, but that was the most precise measurement as it was bang on the .1 mark ;-)

    Damn it, Andy Murray lost!

Rave Racer PCB turned up the other day with a faulty Video PCB. Should be interchangeable. Not had time this weekend to do anything as I am away, but the advice suggested is to change over everything from the Ridge Racer 2 PCB set and establish whether it's fully functional when the Video PCB is swapped over.

<Shouldn't be on as I am away for the weekend> :110:

** Edit ** Decided to separate the the main VIDEO PCB from the Ridge Racer 2 unit, swap over a few of the RR1 GAM chips and see whether I could get Rave Racer running at the expense of Ridge Racer 2. The result is below, although I am now going to have to hunt down a working VIDEO PCB for RR2.

Right, there has been some significant movement on the Ridge Racer cabinet. The area of land I discovered the original cabinet (one of two) was dumped and rusting away gently on has been purchased by the council and the current occupiers have been forced off it. All properties emptied, all property removed in some compulsory order! The guy who owned both RR cabs called me and basically said 'I can deliver it to you, just take it for £X otherwise it goes in the skip!'

Well, as £X was really a fantastic price and the unit had a complete gear assembly in it, I accepted.

Yesterday I stripped the cabinet, but this is how it arrived.

The good news. The gear assembly was complete, undamaged and works! The System 22 PCB works perfectly now that it has been cleaned (the fans were filthy). The pedals are in better shape than the ones I have, plus a number of smaller parts are in better condition.

The actual cabinet, now that it has been cleaned is in near mint condition and fewer rust spots than it would have appeared, but I cannot swap main units without a serious amount of messing around. I decided against it.

Bad news. The monitor chassis blew up the second I applied power. Despite leaving it to dry out, the damp must have been too much. Tested against my chassis the monitor is in good condition and has less screen burn. I am not going to swap it out though.

The seat assembly underside needs a bit of welding on it.

So, at present I am swapping and exchanging parts. Also getting the Unit B cabinet into better shape, dealing with electrics, fitting new bulbs and I might even tackle the chassis so that I can sell it on once my plundering of parts has ended. Suffice to say, whomever ends up with it will have as much chance of getting it up and fully completed as I had getting mine done. Worth it as a project I think. Even tempted to keep it for myself, but space is limited.

With a bit of TLC and serious cleaning.

Wow, you lucky Devil! Rage Racer is a great game, nice music. But I would personally stick with RR2, as I feel it is the purer of the two games.

Of course, Rave Racer has never seen a home release, so it makes it more interesting to some.

Taucias, I agree to a certain extent. I have robbed the System 22 out of the second cabinet and decided to keep it, therefore I can swap out Ridge Racer 2 for Rave Racer in about 3mins.

I had a 3rd System 22 motherboard set, but the VIDEO PCB has blown and physically swapping the boards around was a longer job. It takes roughly 20mins, plus the risk of damage.

Rave Racer is a smoother game by far. I love the fact that as you corner at speed the camera tilts. There is a change view option (which requires an additional switch, which is just push pull and I think I'll fit it), plus force feedback (but finding the steering mechanism would be a pig).

I think also that once you've gone 'round the Ridge Racer 2s single track (and extension), you are crying out for a change. Rave has 4 tracks, cooler cars, very good music and is great fun for such an old title. Given it is was produced in 1995 I am actually surprised.

The only things I would change are the seizure inducing intro (if you suffer from epilepsy don't get this title, or look away whilst it's in attract mode!) and if you catch air the commentator shouts 'YAAAAAHHHOOOOO!' very loudly!

I've stood outside whilst my wife was having a shot of the game and anyone passing must wonder what the hell is going on!

Haha, funny! The music for Rave Racer was used in Ridge Racer Revolution. I dislike the commentator in Rave Racer, but you make a good point about the tracks. And of course, the original track is there. The main reason to play those games through is the time trial. I spent many many hours honing my lap times. It got to be quite addictive and some of the online times are quite incredible.

In RR2, if you drive up past through the starting 'feeder' lane, spin around and drive full speed at the wall you'll go into mirror mode.

I always wondered on the game over screen with the slot machine style writing. One of the possibilities looks like Crazy mode. I always wondered if there were other options or secrets connected to that.

In Rave Racer if you spin round in the city track and avoid crossing the start line you enter a spiral track that eventually feeds into a tunnel I hadn't seen before, however you run out of time. I suspect it would just lead back down to the original track somewhere.

In Ridge Racer 2 (never played part 1) there is a blocked off section inside the first tunnel. It reappears in Rave Racer and shows up as a blue section on the map, but I've never found any means of accessing it.

Yeah, I like the time trials. At the moment I am just trying to get 'round the Mountain section, which is hellishly difficult.

Ha! I loved that game. Not played it in a LONG time and for some reason Forza just never caught my imagination in the same way. Might go back to it and try again though. Actually, not switched on anything other than a few minutes of Assassin's Creed in the last month.

I am alone in enjoying it I suspect! Its not nearly as bad as everyone (and most reviews) suggest! Perhaps I am easily pleased, or perhaps I just enjoy galloping around the virtual countryside.

Nope, I thought it was fantastic too. Far too much bandwagoning in this industry.

I have stripped the secondary cab right down. I initially placed it for sale on eBay, got a few queries and no bites. Then the chassis seemed to start jumping back to life, which makes it more viable for me. I really didn't want to spend any more cash on it, however if just going through dry solder joints and repairing cracks is starting to improve things then...

So, what images are you looking for? The complete unit with gear lever, more screenshots or internal shots?

Just added a Ridge Racer (yep, the first, the genuine, the original) PCB set to the System 22 list.

When it arrived it was missing the I/O, plus the connector board was damaged. Thank god for the faulty Ridge Racer II system I got as I was able to plunder it for spares.

So, up pops 'Ridge Racer', the flag, the beach in the background and the sound of the sea. What I had to laugh at though was the 'Ridge Racer' voice over, which clearly includes the sound of the microphone being switched off!

Not had a proper play of this yet, however I did noticed a few details which are missing in Ridge Racer II such as the plane that flies overhead, there are boats in the harbour, there's a guy that runs across the starting grid just as you take off (as well as the leggy Japanese girl holding a sign saying '1 Min') and there are a few differences in the audio, such as the sound of the engine in the tunnel section.
