Yeah, it doesn't get much more holier than that. Although there are technically 3 in existence that are known of. One owned by NAL (and not leant to any arcades currently, AFAIK) and two that Cave have... although those could very well have been written over already.

Trust me, you really don't want it. I had a chance to play with it once, and all I can say is UGH! The whole thing felt really cheaply made too (although it was just a prototype).

I guess I'm one of the lucky few people who have actually found their holy grail. In my case it was the Atari 8-bit version of Cloak & Dagger (prototype): http://www.atariprotos.com/8bit/software/cloakdagger/cloakdaggerproto.htm

Still looking for that 5200 Elevator Action prototype tough. Sigh...

I remember someone on the board earlier saying there was a sealed Metal Slug for Neo Geo on eBay and he called it a Holy Grail. Since then I started to think of it more in subjective terms.

    For me...hardware from Japan...

    Nintendo: Othello Computer TV-Game
    Sega: SF-7000
    Pioneer: Palcom
    Casio: None
    Bandai: Super Vision 8000
    Epoch: ElectroTennis
    Fujitsu: None
    NEC: PC Engine LT
    Sony: None
    Tomy: None
    Microsoft: None

    Other nominees:

    Takara: Sord M5
Bandai: RX-78 Gundam PC, Kosokusen Vectrex
Sega: Any of the hyper rare Dreamcasts

Not all of these are rare, but I think if you're a Nintendo fan and you see a Othello Computer TV-Game in someone's collection then it's a symbol of how far he's willing to go and it makes him a top tier collector, however you want to define that. Same with something like a Swatch Dreamcast or a full Palcom set.

If only 2-3 of something exist then I'm not sure you can say it's in circulation enough to really be something someone can obtain. If it's off limits then there's really no point in going for it. That's just my opinion, I'm sure others will disagree.

havent been in years but the amusement park "Liseberg" here in Gothenburg has two setups sounding very much like what you described there, they might still be there, pretty fun if by chance it happens to work (both setups are old and the park doesnt give a shit about servicing their machines :( )

Oh yeah, I've played it too... I know it's a crap game. :110: I just want it because of it's rare/prototype status (and my main focus is handheld games...)

    Castlevania for the Dreamcast, also.

The graphics artist says it was in playable burnt form, screenshots exist. A GDRom was originally offered up for sale all those years ago on a French site...

The problem is that the more people express an inerest in it then the less likely collectors of such things will want to share it.

Maybe moderators could ban the use of the word 'Castlevania' in the forums then, give it 10 years or so...and some collector will browse the boards here and think "Hey, nobody ever mentions this game here? Heck, I'll just give it away..."

    Well....we can dream can't we?

    :)

Anymore info on this unit Japan-Games?

Do we have another contender for the rarest dreamcast of all? Rivalling perhaps the 'all gold' model given away in a Pro-Yakyu competition...(did that one ever exist?)

    I am intrigued!

    :katamari:

Has there ever been one for sale? I thought the Swatch DC was canceled as there is only one image known to me on the net from it being placed a showcase of Swatch (on a fair or something).

MY personal holy grails are also hardware-related as I have a faible for hardware.
The HiSaturn Navi with LCD is the best collector's item I could imagine to get my hands on b/c I like to collect jpn saturn very much. Pretty close comes the Maziora Dreamcast and the Crystal Chronicles GameCube due to their wonderful colors. There are 3 limited consoles with beautiful colors, the last one is the Gundam GC which I already own as its not too expensive, so I wouldn't call it a "Holy Grail".

A Sega AI Computer could possibly be my holy grail. And Sonic XTreme 1996 E3 proto for the software...

I wonder how much that differs from a sega saturn devkit that had a Jamma harness on it (maybe it's the same?). I saw one on ebay and almost got it. **** me for not because I wanted to buy a xb360 at launch (the same thing i'm now trying to sell before it breaks on me).
