I think we all agree Sega has lost it's appeal recently. Forever Dreamcast reissue on XBOX live there's NIGHTS on Wii, and Sonic game that just isn't sonic. For Every Virtua Fighter there's an upgrade that stays in arcades where nobody is playing them. For every Bayonetta there's Golden Axe Beast Rider. For every Yakuza Sequel there's a Shenmue Fan wanting to get the fuck out of that Cave and fuck Lan Di's Shit up.

Signs of Sega's greatness seems to be limited to Japan the Sega Ages Series never left Japan. The Night's PS2 Port was always japan only. Sega still has it in them. they were smart enough to partner with platnium games. They were smart enough to keep sonic team away from Sonic 4.

What else should Sega do to try to reclaim their former Glory?

1991: War breaks out in southern Sega due to a hedgehog. Ugh, 19 years of this?

The keeping away of Sonic Team may or may not be a good thing. Look at how Dimps has slipped since Advance 3, and you'll see how they are slightly ahead of ST, but starting to avalanche, and avalanche HARD.

And that's how the fight somehow broke out in the streets of ASSEMbler City one day.

I think Sonic Rush is the best Sonic game released in the last 6 years.

    They can make good games..

Seriously I don't know what you expect to hear. How many times do we have to have this topic pop up before it becomes so nauseatingly boring that we just stop talking about it.

Sega now is simply not the Sega of the past and that is that.

Sega would need a time machine to go back to the past to fix their fuckups. That's the only way they can do it.

Sega could stage a return, but only partnered with another company. Sony and Microsoft have too big a budget to tolerate another competitor and Nintendo only managed it this time around with creative thinking.

Sega can always make another console, and if it is competitive (with the PS4, for example) lots of people will buy it just because... it's Sega! But since it is Sega what you'd see instead is inferior hardware and insane marketing strategies.

The best bet now is for some logical , sanely-run company to buy Sega and make a real console...

Having been a huge fan of Sega from the Master System to the Dreamcast, and seeing what they are today, this is not very possible.

But in all honesty, things would have been much better if Sega had died with the Dreamcast. Then the talent at Sega could have wound up at various other companies, made their own companies, etc., and would be able to be making great new IPs right now as opposed to being a part of the souless Sammy possessed corpse that Sega is now.

Hell, if the Dreamcast had been Sega's glorious swan song (in more than spirit), maybe Yukio Futatsugi (head of Microsoft Game Studios Japan for awhile, also known as the father of a little series called "Panzer Dragoon") could have snatched up a good chunk of the old Sega talent and created something really cool with MGSJapan.

    Edit:
And I would give Sega credit as a publisher, because Platinum Games is great, however, they also publish a lot (and I mean A LOT) of absolute shit. See: Iron Man and Golden Axe.

    Ding ding ding!

I'm a fan(boy) of the old Sega but they're now almost a shovelware company. Only a few games since the death of the Dreamcast have kept up the quality of past Sega games, so I wish they'd just gone bankrupt with the DC's death.

Although if you wanna argue what would make Sega good again, the answer is simple: the good post-DC games have all been arcade games or arcade-style games, so Sega should stick to them.

Keep the games relatively simple and fun, leave out the terrible story lines, bad cameras/controls or whatever, we have enough games where playing is a chore because every damn button on a modern controller is used for something and the first 10 hours are a mandatory tutorial + unlocking stuff to make the game fun...

Send all Sega staff (i mean ALL), to an island.

On this island, put all succesful arcades and games (from Master System, Mega Drive,...).

After 2 weeks there, ask them to make:

    - a new Alex Kidd game (or a Miracle World remake)
    - a new Sonic game ( 2D in High Resolution )
    - OutRun 3
    - a remake of the first Phantasy Star
    - Shenmue 3
    - Release After Burner Climax and Sega Racing Classic in physical media with added content

If all this goes well, then they deserve a little respect. If they can't make a decent Sonic game after all this, change the name to SEGA_RIP

I think they only hope they have to get back to glory, and to re-enter the hardware fray is with a portable console. far smaller budget required than a home console and easier to develop good games on it.

I know Toshihiro Nagoshi has to keep churning out Yakuza sequels in order to maintain his fake tan, but how much exactly has Sega blown continuing what is effectively a series that long outstayed its welcome as a replacement for the non-release of Shenmue III? Surely by now it's cost more for the substitute so just let us fuck Lan Di's shit up, already!
